Introduction.

H ello there, come in, come in, don’t be shy –

welcome, welcome. First of all, allow us to
thank you for buying this book on Radical
Reiki – Radical Life.

If you’re feeling a little mixed in your emotions

right now, don’t worry, it’s quite all right, in fact it’s
quite understandable.

2
On the one hand you may be feeling somewhat
nervous and excited, hoping beyond hope that this
book lives up to all your expectations.

On the other you may be feeling a little fearful in

case it doesn’t.

And there in the background may be lurking a

little disappointment, because, after the excitement of
building yourself up to the buying decision - the book
has now actually arrived on your computer and it’s
very arrival may have begun to burst those delicate
bubbles of expectation and hope.

We do understand these feelings as we’ve already

said, but be assured, we will do our best to live up to
the promise of our marketing.

Our aim is to help you discover the wonders of

Reiki for yourself, and also to give you the tiniest
glimpse into our metaphysical world.

We want to help you see, maybe for the first

time, the glorious you that you truly are - Strong,
powerful, beautiful, unstoppable and – most
importantly - divine.

You are about to embark on a journey of

discovery. A journey of self-discovery, to be more
precise, which can lead you to a place of contentment,
meaning, fulfilment, happiness and joy.

Notice we have said a journey of discovery – not

a journey of learning.

There is nothing in life that you have to learn.

Let us repeat that for more emphasis.

There is nothing in life you have to learn.

You already know all that there is to know.

3
This book has been written to gently remind you
of this knowledge and help bring it more fully into your
waking consciousness.

It is, therefore, a process of rediscovering that

which you already know to be true.

It’s about remembering who you are and why

you are here.

You see, you are an incredibly powerful spiritual

being; only you have chosen to forget all about it. You
have chosen to experience temporary spiritual
amnesia.

We are going to act as the catalyst to help you

restore your memory and return you to your senses.

Through reading these pages it is our wish that

you become more fully aware of the incredible power
you hold within yourself.

4
Being attuned to Reiki

Up until now, the only way you could have been

attuned to Reiki was if you had attended classes run by
an existing Reiki Master.

Now this was fine, as far as it went. Indeed, we

taught Reiki in this way ourselves for many years. But
the problem was this…

…It precluded everyone who couldn’t afford the

fairly high fees.

This is very unfortunate. For it is our belief that

the world is crying out for the kind of help which
people attuned to Reiki can give. And this help needs to
be given right NOW.

We cannot afford to wait a moment longer.

The more people able to attune themselves to the

energy of Reiki, the better off we all will be.

How so? Well…

There is little doubting that our wonderful planet

is presently facing some rather dire problems. And it is
no great secret that these problems are beginning to
threaten the very survival of humanity itself.

It is also no great secret that it is humanity itself

who are creating these problems.

So…

If more people where to become attuned to Reiki

it would begin to raise the consciousness, awareness
and understanding of more and more individuals.

And…

5
As the only way to change the outer world is to
first change the inner world of each individual person,
it follows that the more internal worlds changed by
Reiki the more quickly the outer world will change too.

This is why we decided to share, within the pages

of this book, an extremely powerful self-initiation
process, which will correctly attune anyone to the
wonderful energy of Reiki.

And we make no apologies for doing so.

We are acutely aware that the Reiki purists will

throw up their arms in horror. They will claim that this
should never have been done – it’s not right – it’s not
proper etc.

But that’s okay, in time they will come to

appreciate the necessity for it.

The survival of our world needs everyone to have

Reiki now, not at some distant time in the future. Reiki
is a living, growing, ever expanding art – it cannot
be left in the hands of just the few.

Welcome to the Reiki Revolution.

This book has been written, therefore, with the

intention of changing your life and the direction of our
world forever. We want you to read it and feel…

Wow, I can do this – I have to do this.

Our aim is to inspire you to discover Reiki for

yourself and to encourage you to begin walking your
own Reiki path. Notice we say your own Reiki path

6
because Reiki, as far as we are concerned, is all about
freedom.

Freedom to become who you want to become

and to live your life the way you want to live it.

The way that life is supposed to be lived.

In other words Reiki will help guide you towards

living the kind of life you may only have dreamed of
living. And this book, we hope, will help guide you
towards your own Reiki.

A Word of Warning

However before you go any further we feel

compelled to issue you with the following warning…

…Please do not expect a solemn, dusty old tome,

which tells you exactly what to do and exactly how to
do it.

This book will never do that.

You see that would just disempower you - and

we have no wish to do that.

We want to fill you with a true sense of your

own magnificence and, most importantly, a grand
understanding of your own absolute, inviolate,
impeccable sovereignty.

Oh yes, one other thing, before we move on.

This book may challenge your present way of

thinking, so we would just like you to consider this…

Your mind is like an umbrella in the rain - if it’s

open it works, if it’s closed...

7
Our intention
Our goal then, is to provide a solid platform of
understanding from which you can go on to build and
develop your own dynamic belief system.

And this is a very important point.

We do not want to enforce our belief systems on

anyone.

What works well for us might not necessarily

work as well for you. Truth, as you will discover, is
not absolute. What is true for you today might not be
true for you tomorrow.

We like the idea of providing roots and wings.

Roots to keep you grounded in reality- wings to

help you fly through dreaming glorious dreams.

You see, this is one of the major problems with

life today. People don’t have dreams anymore.

Depression is at epidemic proportions because of

this. People either don’t have dreams or, if they do,
don’t believe they can come true.

People have to have dreams – it is imperative.

And Reiki can help you both create and achieve

them.

Now just a quick word on…

8
…Gurus or Master’s

We are most certainly not about becoming your

Guru or your Master and taking away your power.

You are your own master and we seek only to

help empower you to the point where you understand
this quite clearly yourself. We do not hold with all these
different ‘societies’ and ‘associations’ that are
constantly springing up to encircle and restrict not
only the development of Reiki but the development of
you as a person as well.

It is not our intention to form any sort of elitist

‘club’ of which membership is compulsory.

Independence

Independence, on the other hand, certainly is

what we are about. We are of the opinion that
powerful, knowledgeable, independent Reiki Masters
are a must and a veritable boon to the world and,
indeed, the planet itself.

A true Guru, Master or leader is merely a

signpost pointing the way.

They will encourage you to look in the direction

they are pointing, not to look at their finger. In other
words listen to what they have to say, and if it sounds
and feels right, and works for you, then assimilate
what they are saying into your life.

They are not looking for followers, they are not

asking you to just sit at their feet revering them,
thinking how wonderful they are.

9
These people know you can be, and want you to
become, the same as they are. They seek only to
empower you. Even Christianity and the Bible implies a
similar thing when Jesus said something along the lines
of…

“All that I have done, you can do and more”.

We do not want you to become a follower of

anyone or, indeed, anything. You are the power. Our
aim is to encourage and empower you towards that
realisation.

Some people give away their power to a

technique or a ritual. They think it is the technique,
ceremony or ritual etc which will give them the power
or ability to do whatever it is that they are wanting to
do.

This is a total misunderstanding and we want

you to see through it right away.

Take, for example, the process of…

…Candle magic

In candle magic you are told to buy candles of a

certain colour for the various different ceremonies you
wish to perform. Red for achieving one type of magic
spell, green for another black for something else etc.

You have to prepare an altar in a part of your

house and treat the area with great reverence.

The particular ceremony you wish to carry out for

whatever it is you wish to achieve, has to be
performed on a certain day or night at a certain time.
You have to cleanse your body in a certain way and

10
dress in a certain colour and sometimes at certain
times, maybe, even have to be naked.

The particular candle or candles, which you are

going to use, have to be cleansed and purified in a
certain way and are then written on with a needle or
similar device. You write on them whatever it is you
wish to achieve, usually three times, ie. more money,
return of a lost love, more success etc.

You then place these candles on your altar.

At the appropriate time you have to go to your

altar and taking your candle or candles, whatever is
appropriate, you intone the particular incantation,
place the candle in the correct position on the altar
and light it.

All of the above is carried out in secrecy and

total reverence. If the ceremony has been performed
correctly, you are told, you will be successful.

Doesn’t that sound great? It might even be worth

having a go ourselves, eh!

What do you think?

We’re only joking, don’t go out buying any

candles. Just be aware that these ceremonies can and
very often do accomplish what they set out to
accomplish. The important thing is to understand how
and why they work.

It’s not the ceremony that makes the spell work -

it’s YOU.

It’s all about you

Everything about the ritual is designed to focus

you on what you want to accomplish.

11
All the various tasks you have to perform work to
affirm and reaffirm your singular intention. They
engender within you a deep belief in the outcome. You
intend that the spell will work and so it does.

It is purely your intention.

You are the magic.

The ritual and ceremony themselves are really

just the window dressing - they set the scene.

They are not important.

It is not important, either, which colour candles

you have or whether you have any candles at all. It
doesn’t really matter what time of the day, day of the
month, what you are – or, conversely, are not -
wearing or even whether you are choosing to use an
altar.

All of these things are quite unimportant. All of

these things can be taken out of the equation and the
spell will still work.

The only thing that cannot be taken out of the

equation is YOU.

YOU and your belief are the important thing,

indeed the only thing, and anything that causes you to
believe is helpful, in fact - it is crucial.

The Message

So, are you getting the message loud and clear?

YOU are the power in your life. YOU just YOU.

12
There is no thing and no one more powerful
than you. We seek to bring this realisation more fully
into your waking consciousness and we have chosen
the vehicle of Reiki to carry the message.

Okay, now before we move on to the Reiki itself,

which we will do soon enough - honest, we think it
would be advantageous to have a little delve beneath
the surface of some…

More esoteric matters

So how about starting the ball rolling with a nice,

easy to get your head round subject like…

Where do we come from and why have we

come???

Could be good for a few sentences don’t you

think?

Long, long ago in a time before time, their

existed an extraordinarily powerful energy source
which began speculating about who and what it was.

It began to wonder about…

Sounds like the beginning of a science fiction

novel doesn’t it?

But is it too far from the truth?

13
In the beginning

If you were to try imagining back to what it must

have been like in the beginning.

Right back to the very, very beginning of time,

yes even before television. What would you come up
with?

What do you think, what do you feel would have

been taking place?

Just for the next couple of minutes, close your

eyes and give it a try.

What, back so soon? Have you given it a go?

Come on now, you can be honest with us. Did

you, really? Or are you just happy to read on and let us
give you some of our thoughts on the matter?

It’s quite okay. We realise that some of you will

have given it a go, but probably most of you didn’t.

And that’s fine. It’s just the way it should be.

Drifting back in time

Okay, so let’s go together. Let’s get ourselves

comfortable, and drift slowly back in time using our
imaginations.

Back, back, slowly back.

14
Let all of recorded history, the personal history
you remember and the cosmic history you don’t, just
rewind in your head. Where do you imagine we would
be?

What can you see?

Are we still standing on a planet? If so, we haven’t

gone back far enough yet. We’ve got to go back before
the existence of matter. We’ve got to go way, way
back to before the universe began.

Now, what do you imagine there would be, back

before the universe began?

Are we still in our bodies? Got to go back further.

Is there still a we? Got to go back even further.

Now, is there just a you? Are you still in a body?

If so, go back a tiny bit more.

Is there just the purity of you there now? Just

your consciousness, your energy? Are you still
there?

Is there anything else?

Okay hold on to this thought, this feeling, for a

moment.

If you have really got into this last piece of

dialogue, and we mean really got into it, you might
have noticed something or felt something, quite
profound.

If you have, excellent, if not just bear with us a

little bit longer whilst we tell you a story that might
just help.

15
A personal story

The story just happens to be about Chris one of

the writers of this book.

When I was growing up my family weren’t

particularly religious in any noticeable way. We didn’t
go to church or Sunday school and I don’t remember
seeing any religious icons in the house.

However, when I was about nine or ten I asked

my mother what would happen to me when I died.

Her reply shocked me to my core.

She said to me, “There won’t be a you any more,

when you’re dead, you’re dead”.

I thought she was just having a joke with me and

so I waited for her to laugh, but she didn’t. She was
quite serious. This was her belief, and she had no
trouble in passing it on to me.

For me it was one of those moments, you know

the type I mean, one of those real key moments in life
that rocks your very foundations. For my mother it was
nothing, she just whisked away and got on with her
day.

I was left devastated.

The statement gnawed at me all through the rest

of the day, and going to bed that night was, well… a
nightmare. I didn’t dare go to sleep in case I died, and
there would be nothing else.

It was dreadful, and I didn’t know what to do.

16
Trying to imagine being dead

This went on for weeks and weeks.

At night I’d lie in bed for ages trying to keep

myself awake. For some reason I only seemed to think
I would die if I went to sleep.

Every night I would lie there trying to imagine

what it would like to be dead.

Trying to imagine what it would be like if there

was no more me. No more me!

Nothing.

Nothing at all but blackness - for all eternity.

It must have begun to take its toll on me

physically, but no one appeared to notice. I don’t
remember anyone taking me to one side and asking
me if everything was all right, and I didn’t dare discuss
it with anyone else in the family.

My mother was always right.

Everything changed

Then, one night, whilst I was going through the

awful imaginings of total blackness and total
nothingness for all eternity, a little light of
understanding came on in my head.

Perhaps it was a satori, a fleeting moment of

enlightened thought, because nothing ever seemed
so dark and black afterwards.

17
I suddenly realised that in all the nights of
horror that I had gone through, trying to imagine total
nothingness - there was always a part of me
observing it all.

A part of me that could not be extinguished no

matter how hard I tried.

I suddenly knew, with absolute certainty that a

part of me would not, indeed could not, ever die!

It was a moment of total exhilaration.

All the dark horrors were forced away. There now

seemed to be a light shining within my head, and it was
wonderful.

I could never, ever die. I was immortal - the

realisation was almost overwhelming.

I wanted to shout it out loud, to tell everyone,

but I couldn’t. The sad fact was I didn’t have anyone
to share it with; I had no one who I could tell.

In fact I have only ever shared this with just a

tiny handful of people, and now I’ve shared it with you.

Back to the script

So, back to that thought we were holding from

several paragraphs back. The profound thought or
feeling you may have had is the very same one I had
all those years ago.

There is a part of you that cannot be

extinguished, a part of you that is always observing.

You can travel right back in time in your

imagination, as we have just done, or you can do it the

18
way I did it as a child, by trying to imagine yourself
dead. It doesn’t really matter which way you try. What
you will find is the same. You cannot disassociate
yourself from existence.

You cannot - not be!

An exercise for you to try

When you’ve got a spare minute then, perhaps

tonight in bed, really do have a proper go at this
exercise.

Take yourself back to the beginning of the

universe again and try to feel what it was like. We say
feel rather than think, because trying to use your head
to figure all this out, makes it very difficult indeed.
Logic is not going to be of much help to you on this
journey.

Feelings are the name of the game here.

Really reach out with your feelings. Ask yourself

what would there be at the beginning of time and wait
for your feelings - your intuition - that still small voice
inside of you, to answer.

Or ask yourself what it would be like to be dead

for all eternity, and again wait for your feelings or
intuition to answer.

If nothing comes up for you, in terms of

answers, don’t worry. It’s the knowing that some
part of you is always there that’s the important bit.
The understanding that you cannot - not be.

The knowing that no matter what happens you,

as a consciousness, are immortal.

19
An extraordinary thought

Really play with this thought, this idea that you

have always been here. That there has never been a
‘time’ - when you were not here.

Indeed, dare to think the thought, dare to feel

the feeling that…

Long, long ago in a time before time, their existed

an extraordinarily powerful energy source which
began speculating about who and what it was.

And that extraordinarily powerful energy

source was, YOU.

Wow, how does that make you feel?

It somehow feels right, doesn’t it? You maybe

can’t put your finger on it at this moment, but
somewhere deep, deep inside, it just feels right.

Now we hope you’ve brought your umbrella with

you because yes, that’s correct. We are suggesting
that…

YOU are God!

Right oh then. Please take a break now and

consider what has been said. Go and do the exercise
we have just suggested, then come back and we’ll
continue.

Go on now – off you go. You’re not going to miss

anything. We won’t go any further until you come back
– we promise. We’ll just wait right here.

20
Did you do it? Did you?

Only you know the answer to that one. But we’ll

give you the benefit of the doubt, should we? And
accept that you really, really did or really, really
meant to, or really, really will or would have, if only
you had had the time, the energy, the patience, the…

……………………..… (You can fill in the blank with

your very own really, real excuse).

If you did do the exercise, great, if you didn’t

that’s okay too. Just remember, though, that the more
you put into this book the more you will get out of it.

Anyway let’s carry on regardless.

We left you with the thought, the feeling, that the

extraordinarily powerful energy source – God – could
actually be you.

Now some of you may have had a little trouble

with that, and some may be having trouble in believing
in the concept of there being a God, any God, at all.

So let’s delve a little more deeply into this subject

right now.

This is, of course, only for those people who

cannot yet accept that THEY are God.

Belief in God

Belief in God has had some real bad press just

recently, so it’s understandable if people seem a little
reluctant to accept His reality. (Throughout this book,
by the way, we are going to refer to God as being He,
so please don’t be offended by this. We do realise that
God has no gender, or to be more precise is every

21
gender, it’s just easier to make reference in the
masculine form whilst writing. It gets very tedious
having to write Him/Her, He/She etc all the time. We
know you will understand because, after all, you are
God).

People, quite rightly, question the existence of a

God who can let all the atrocities that occur in the
world, take place. Why, they say, if there is a God
would He let all these things happen?

How could a being so immensely powerful, who

is supposed to be so compassionate and loving, allow
people to starve to death? Why would He allow all
these wars to take place? Why would He permit
anything bad to happen to anyone?

Surely if there is a God, He must be powerful

enough to fix all these things at a stroke, mustn’t He?

So, you reason, if there is a God and He is

powerful enough to fix all these things, as He should be
if He is a God, and He does not, it can only mean one
of two things…

Two choices

1. There is a God but He doesn’t really care

enough about us to help.

Or

2. There is no God.

Now if statement number 1 is true, we have

a couple of ways in which we can proceed. We
can try to figure out a way to get Him to like and
love us or we can say – “Why should we take any

22
notice of a God who doesn’t love us and won’t
take care of us”?

And just ignore the whole subject

altogether.

The path of ignorance

Many, many people have chosen this latter path.

The path of ignore-ance.

But how can this prevailing attitude be changed?

How can anyone be encouraged to choose the

possibility of God, over the comfort of ignorance?

By raising the consciousness of people to

another level.

And how do we do this?

Yes, you guessed it, through Reiki, of course. But

before we get onto that subject, let’s examine what
happens to the people who want to figure out how to
get God to love and care for them.

People wanting to discover the way to this kind of

reality usually follow the directions given in some kind
of organised religion.

It doesn’t really matter which particular one is

followed, and quite often their family has already
chosen it for them anyway. All religions are attempting
to lead their followers in a similar direction. And all are
useful - until they are not, and that’s when the trouble
starts.

23
The Laws of God?

Religions require strict adherence to the rules

and regulations as set out by the founder of their
particular religion. Most purporting to having received
these rules directly from God or some other Supreme
Being.

The implication from all being – you won’t receive

the love and care of God unless you abide by our rules,
which they have now imperiously called ‘The Laws of
God’.

Now what people seem to forget when they are

being guided by these religions is that these religions
are often many hundreds of years old. The rules and
regulations, sorry ‘Laws of God’, were made in times
when the people weren’t quite as sophisticated as they
are today.

They were in abject fear and awe of their

religious leaders.

But that is no longer the case in some countries

today. Some of these people are beginning to ask
questions of their religion.

Do not question the wisdom of God

True Believers would say, we must not question

the wisdom of God, because God works in mysterious
ways.

But for some people - people in hardship and

pain - people suffering from the most horrendous
atrocities - people watching their children die because

24
of religious wars or for the want of a little food and
some clean water.

To these people, this answer doesn’t come

anywhere near to being enough.

So the True Believers change tack a little.

They then tell us that the suffering we are

experiencing will make us better people. They say it is
like making a better quality of steel. The more heat
and the more hammering it takes, the stronger and
purer, it will be.

And this, they say, is what is actually happening

and that we should bear with it.

If this still does not pacify us, True Believers tell

us that because of our massive suffering we must be
special people and will get tremendous rewards in
heaven.

People begin to doubt their religion

Now with all of this going on, is it not surprising

that people begin to doubt their religion?

Well, fortunately, they do but, unfortunately,

they also begin to doubt in God.

When things are at their darkest and you cry out

to God for help. When you have taken so much - and
you can’t take anymore. You know that God has been
watching. You know He has seen your suffering. Seen
this hardship and pain that you have endured. You
know that He knows this is more than any one person
should ever be allowed to bear.

25
Trusting in God

You desperately want to trust in God. You want

to believe that He will only allow so much suffering to
happen to you, and then mercifully, make it stop.

You know that this is how it is supposed to

work.
But the pain and the suffering continue.

God does not answer your prayers. You cry and

beseech. You pray harder and implore. You make
threats and then beg for forgiveness. You promise you’ll
be good from now on. You try to make bargains you
know you’ll never keep.

You try everything you can, until finally, you get

so angry and disillusioned that…

…You stop believing altogether

It is much easier to say you don’t believe. You

find out that there are thousands, indeed, millions of
people who don’t believe.

In fact it is quite cool not to believe.

You wonder at how you could have been so

foolish to have been taken in by all this nonsense in
the first place. A God that looks after us - how
ridiculous. It somehow makes you feel better, now that
you’ve seen through the hoax.

Things might not actually be any better, but at

least you’ve found out the truth.

26
This is a scenario that takes place on a daily basis
around the world, and has done so for many, many
years. It will probably carry on for many, many more
years too.

The True Believers would have it that everything

has just been a test of your faith. And the fact that
you have lost this faith is proof that you are not
worthy - are somehow inferior because you
weakened.

This is a favourite ploy.

Making you feel unworthy and inferior makes

them feel worthy and superior.

At this late stage, however, it cuts no ice, and you

continue to say you disbelieve. Except, against all the
odds, a part of you, maybe a very small part of you,
has still not given up completely.

It won’t be denied; it some how knows better.

Out of touch religions

This is the experience of too many people. Too

many people have been let down. And the clichés and
platitudes that trip easily from the tongues of these out
of touch religious leaders do not help.

People do not want to hear that they will get their

rewards in heaven. They do not want to hear that life is
supposed to be a school full of hardship and pain. A
place where you come solely to learn how to bear
suffering because it will somehow make you a better
person.

To the people of today these things no longer

make any sense.

27
And to these people who have had this kind of
experience with their religion, we offer the following
words of hope.

All religions are entirely man made.

They do not represent the word of God in any

way shape or form. The rules and regulations that they
adhere to are simply that – rules and regulations –
they are not ‘Laws of God’ – they were just made up
by man.

If you are still involved with a religion and it

works for you, then that’s great. We have no problem
with that. As we have already said, all religions are
useful until they are not, and what we mean by that is
this…

…Religions are okay when first

starting out

Religions offer a well-trodden path that you can

follow. They are perfect for when you are just starting
out and you need to know what to do, when to do it
and who to turn to for advice if it is needed.

They’re kind of like a paint-by-numbers picture.

If you stay within the marked lines they allow you

to create a passable painting, whilst not being too
demanding. And you also get to practice some of the
more elementary techniques in a very safe
environment.

The problem is, of course, you can only end up

with the picture that they have carefully outlined for

28
you. You cannot use your own free will to be
wonderfully and spontaneously creative.

Now if you are quite happy to be a paint-by-

numbers artist this approach is absolutely fine.

If you want to be a great artist in your own

right, however, you might find it a bit limiting. And this,
you will discover, holds true for all religions as well.

Moving beyond religion

Once you have reached this point, the point when

you begin to realise that there must be something
more. Wouldn’t it be nice if the religion, and the
religious leaders themselves, said to you…

…“Well done. You have come as far as we can

take you. It is now time to walk your own path for we
do not wish to limit your growth. The guidance you
require for your next steps will come from within you.
You must now learn to meditate and follow your own
counsel. And don’t worry, we’ll always be here to help
if you need us.”

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Wouldn’t it be nice for a religion to be honest

enough with you to say these things? To actively
promote and support your individual emergence as a
powerful spiritual being in your own right.

But they don’t, and they won’t.

Why?

Because religion is very big business.

29
The machinery behind these religions is vast and
very expensive. The people earning their livings from
these religions is vast. The power, prestige and social
standing awarded to these people is vast.

And they’re not about to give any of this up

without a fight.

Without you, they are out of business.

The religious myths continue

So the myths that have been set up by these

religious bodies continue on unabated. Sure, they are
modifying some of their dogma, but this is because
they are having to.

They are losing punters, their life-blood, in

droves. It would be nice to think that religion is
changing, growing and developing out of some kind of
spiritual enlightenment, but unfortunately it is purely
economic.

It is not, therefore, in their interests for you to

leave their religion.

It never has been.

They will threaten you with all kinds of

punishments that will be meted out by a harsh and
unforgiving God. For God, it seems, will only play ball
with you, if you play ball with Him.

He will only be a loving, caring and understanding

God if you do as He says. He will not be best pleased if
you try to do things your own way and He will punish
you mightily.

30
Let’s look at that more closely

Now come on.

First of all the religion tells you that you will only
be looked after by God if you adhere to the doctrines as
put forward by their religion. The only One True
Religion, of course – but then they all tell you that
don’t they?

Then they say that this wonderful, loving,

compassionate all powerful God of theirs, - The Only
One True God of course, but then they all tell you that
as well, don’t they? - will punish you for all eternity if
you don’t comply.

Does this really make any sense?

Does this almighty being not appear to be acting

suspiciously like – ‘The Devil’?

The absolute antithesis of everything God is

supposed to represent.

Well we don’t know about you, but it sure does

sound like ol’ Nick to us. You see, to us, God
represents love, life, freedom and joy.

Pure love - eternal life - absolute freedom -

unlimited joy.

Anything else is a lie made up by man.

So let’s be clear. The long and the short of it is

this…

The present understanding of God’s Will and

God’s Laws etc. comes from one source – Religion.
These religions claim to have got their information

31
directly from God Himself, but usually through human
intermediaries

In other words we are supposed to believe in

what other people said happened to them, hundreds
of years ago.

We are supposed to believe that these few special

individuals were the only ones capable of
communicating with God. And accept without
question that no one else was, is or ever will be
capable of doing the same - ever again.

Well, excuse us for saying so. But does that make

any sense at all?

Is that really acceptable to you?

Religions are at fault

We’re sorry but to us it is quite clear. It is the

religions that are at fault here, not God. The religions
do not represent the word of God, they only say that
they do, and they have hoodwinked too many people
for quite long enough!

Religion is one of the foremost institutions for

removing, suppressing and controlling every single
drop of you and your divine power.

If you are at all religious, please understand that

we are not having a go at your particular religion. No,
we are having a go at all the organised religions, each
and every one of them.

There is probably not one single religion on the

face of this planet, which seeks to empower you to the
point of Godhead. They all seek to control you and
keep you in fear and bondage.

32
Most religions spring from the same root. In other
words almost every religion that people are following
today developed from, or has derived elements from,
another religion that came before it.

There are no truly unique religions and they are

all man made as we have said earlier.

Yes, we would have to agree that as everyone is

a part of God then every religion would have to have
been divinely inspired. But they have all been
corrupted by mans desire to dominate and control.

Even the ones, which began with noble

intentions, have succumbed to the distortions of their
later leaders. And another interesting fact is that most
of them are derived originally from a worship of the
sun, yes, even Christianity.

What is required is clarity.

An understanding of who and what God is, that

comes from within each and every individual. You
have not, do not and never will have the need for an
intermediary to communicate with God, because

God is inside of you right now.

Because,

God is you and you are God.

33
God does not create all the atrocities occurring in
our world today, we do. We have chosen to
experience these things and God/We have given
ourselves the freedom to have these experiences.

It cannot happen any other way. God will never

over-rule us, because He cannot. Our will is His will.

Now let this really sink in…

Our will is God’s will

because

God’s will is our will.

Back to the beginning again

Now let’s just go back again to the beginning of

time. To that place we are becoming more familiar
with.

If you have really tried the exercise we asked

you to try, you will know that it is not possible to
imagine that there has ever been a time when you
were not. There has never been a time of complete
nothingness.

Okay, so stretch with this a little, and bring your

brollies if you need to.

34
If you can accept that there must have been a
beginning. A somewhere, a sometime when it all
began.

You can do this can’t you? Yes? Good.

What, or who, do you think was there at that

moment? Yes, we know this can conjure up images of
chickens and eggs, but lay that aside for a minute.
(Apologies for the awful pun).

Is it easier to imagine that there was some kind

of other energy there, along with you, rather than
some kind of inanimate object? Is it easier to imagine
that this energy had some kind of intelligence or
consciousness rather than being inert?

We know that this is not easy, but what we’re

trying to do is get you to a place where you can allow
the possibility.

For most people who have given this subject

some serious consideration, and many people have,
their conclusions, albeit probably not conclusive, are
usually along the lines of - it must have started
somewhere.

If you really can’t accept that there was a

beginning, and that there must have been some sort of
energy there. What else is there that you can accept?

Most scientists put forward the theory of the Big

Bang as being the beginning of the universe. In fact
this theory is becoming the generally accepted reality.
Others don’t agree at all. But the thing is, they all
agree on one thing – there must have been a
beginning.

As we’ve said, it’s very chicken and egg, but we

think that it all boils down (not a pun!) to just the one
question…

35
Did the beginning have structure and intelligence
behind it, or was it just a totally random, chance event?

Our belief system

We have gone back to this point, and meditated

on it many, many times. Our understanding, drawn
from these experiences, is that it all started with the
energy of consciousness. This consciousness had
great intelligence, wisdom and compassion.

This energy was all that there was, and it knew

that it was all that there was.

Because we are unable to imagine a time when

we were not - and are also unable to imagine a time
when we will not ever be – we know that we were,
and are, part of this consciousness.

For you reading this book, that knowing may not

yet be.

But we hope to change that.

Our own journey to this realisation also originally

started out in hope.

We hoped that what we were feeling and

understanding was true. After a while this hope
changed into a tentative belief that it was true. This
belief eventually, after much trial and error, became a
knowing.

We now hope to engender within you this same

kind of knowing.

36
Back to the beginning, once more

So, back to this conscious energy source at the

beginning of time once again. (We hope you will forgive
us for all these happy returns but it was, after all, your
birthday).

As we have said, you existed as a part of this

energy and everything was incredibly marvellous. You
were all there was and you were magnificent.

Now being all there was and being incredibly

marvellous was all very well and good, but it was also
just a bit too conceptual…

…A tad too much on the theoretical side for your

liking.

It was bordering on the all talk no action way of

life - you know, like trying to learn to ride a bike just by
reading a book about it. Not very practical because it
leaves you thinking you know how to do it until you get
on the bike, then whoops, you’re instantly upside down
in a heap.

You wanted to experience what it was like to be

magnificent. You wanted to ride that bike, you wanted
to feel that wind, feel what it was like to be upside
down.

You wanted to get down and boogie a little.

So how do you do it? How do you get out there

and start experiencing things?

Now remember, you are all there is and,

‘out there’ doesn’t exist - yet. There is nothing at all
that exists that is not a part of you. You are the
everything of everything, the whole kit and
caboodle.

37
It might also be worth mentioning at this point,
that you are also the everything of that which is not,
as well.

How can you experience

magnificence?

How can you experience magnificence when

magnificence is all there is?

How can you experience beauty, when beauty is

all there is? How can you experience up when up is all
there is or down when down is all there is? It’s just not
possible.

And you knew this.

You knew that to have the experiences that you

desired it was going to be necessary to change
everything.

So that is what you did!

The opposite has to exist

You knew that to have the experience of anything,

the opposite of what you are wanting to experience
would have to exist too. But at this point there was only
you, there was in effect, no not you. So you decided
to do the only thing you could do to accomplish what
you desired, you decided to divide yourself.

Not too difficult a task for the only and most

powerful force in existence.

But wait…

38
Could dividing into just two parts provide all the
experiences you wished to experience?

Sure, it would now be possible for one part of

you to look back at the other part, but what would that
part see?

Well, one part of magnificence would be able to

see the other part of magnificence looking back, which
would be good, wouldn’t it?

After all that is exactly what you wanted.

Well, yes, but only partly. It would only be

possible for one part of magnificence to see the other
part of magnificence from the perspective of, err…
well… magnificence.

Do you understand this concept?

We hope so, but if it hasn’t quite clicked into

place try considering it like this.

Imagine yourself as being one half of an apple

looking back at the other half of yourself. You can only
see the other part from the perspective, and
understanding that you already have - which is that
gained from being an apple.

Because an apple is all you are.

You are not and never have been, say, an

orange. And cannot, therefore, consider the apple
from the understanding, the perspective, of an orange.

Got it?

No? Well try this. If you were completely brown

and you lived in a brown world where everything was
absolutely brown. Yes everything, and the same shade
of brown too.

39
Your clothes, furniture, house, décor, car, the
road, grass, trees, sky, sun, sea etc. etc.

Have you got the picture?

There is no other colour in your world except

brown. Would you be able to understand, to perceive,
what it would be like to live in our own multi-coloured
world?

Now please don’t say, “Yeah, that makes it as

clear as mud, real brown mud.”

If you’re still not quite sure, re-read the

paragraphs above a few more times, and we know
you’ll finally get it.

It was necessary to divide

Okay then, so it was necessary to divide and into

more than two parts, but these parts had to be –
different parts, as well. Now the fundamental problem
with this is, how do you get a consciousness, which is
one thing to become a consciousness, which is
something else?

If you are, say, Mary Smith, how do you become

Sarah Jones? Yes it would be possible to emulate an
actress and pretend to become Sarah Jones. But are
you then really Sarah Jones?

Not really.

You would just be Mary Smith pretending to be

Sarah Jones but still using the general perspectives,
the general understandings, of Mary Smith.
Everything that you did would be influenced by that
major part of you which was really Mary Smith.

40
Memory Loss

But hold on a minute, what if you had amnesia?

What if you absolutely, totally and utterly forgot

who you were?

Yes, now that would work wouldn’t it?

If people lose their memories they can become,

not just act like, but actually become, a changed
person. Their perspectives, their outlook, on life can
become quite different.

Ah-ha, this was a good plan, and it was a plan

that would work.

And so it was decided that a portion of this

extraordinarily powerful energy would split itself into an
infinite number of particles. Every particle containing
within it the essence of the whole, rather like the pieces
of a broken 1hologram, but carrying no conscious
memory of this fact.

This provided the potential for each individual

particle to become totally different, and appear to be
totally separate from every other particle as well.

Now it would be possible to experience your

magnificence in the very practical way you desired.

The energetic universe begins

In an explosion of incredible magnitude the ONE

instantly became the many. The universe, the one-

1
It has been found that when a picture in holographic form of, say a vase, is shattered, every
individual piece of the broken hologram carries within it a complete picture of the whole vase.

41
verse, was born. Suddenly there was, for the first
time, a here and a there. There was an up and a
down, a now and a then, a near and a far…

…everything your heart desired.

Well, perhaps not quite your heart, for that little

part of you was yet to come - but you know what we
mean.

All these centillions of little particles of

consciousness - these little chips off the old block -
became us. They became all there is and all there
isn’t.

All the matter and all the anti-matter.

WOW!

This, as you can see, aligns itself quite nicely with

the widely accepted theory that the universe began
with the Big Bang. And for us it answers all the
questions on creation it is necessary to ask.

But you are quite welcome to go on questioning,

if what we have said does not ‘sit right’ within you.

You might still have your own theories of God

and the universe, and we honour those beliefs. If you
are still not sure, we would suggest you meditate on it,
and remember it your own way.

In other words re-member - put the pieces back

together - in a way that fits your own internal pattern.

Because, at the end of the day - for each

individual - it really has got to come down to just one
thing. Belief.

42
Yes, that’s right, just belief or more precisely,
BEING LIEF.

You see the word lief means: gladly, willingly,

happily, readily. And it is no accident how this word
evolved.

It is asking you to BE lief. So gladly, willingly,

happily, readily accept the possibility of being God.

Just – Be, just BE - lief.

The thought of creation

So, we, as individuals, originated from a thought,

which God had had about who God was. Because God
is always unfolding too. We evolved as a concept
during the thought processes of God.

God wondered.

God imagined what it would be like to

experience being God. And in doing so created us. We
were created in God’s imagination. In God’s IMAGE-
ination. And the notion of us being created in God’s
image was born also, along with us.

Now what did we, as little bright sparks of the

creator, have to do in order to experience being God?

Well, as always, the answer was in the question.

We didn’t have to DO anything. We wanted to

experience BEING God. So we became human
BEINGS not human doings. We became Beings of
energy, Beings of light, Beings of thought, Beings of
God.

43
And we created a whole universe of energy, of
light, of thought, of sound, of God in which to play
whilst experiencing our Being-ness.

The physical universe begins

With the creation of this energetic universe there

also came two choices of experience for us.

We could experience a physical or a non-

physical reality.

Choosing a physical reality meant slowing down

the energy around us until it took on a denser form. A
bit like taking steam and slowing it down until it
becomes water and then slowing it down some more
until it becomes ice.

Many of us made the choice to experience

physical realities. So we slowed the energy until it
coalesced into the manifestation of the physical
universe we inhabit today. We did this through the
power of thought.

Every particle in the universe responds to our

thoughts, but more of this anon.

As it was necessary for us to interact with this

physical reality we also had to create the means for this
to happen. We created for ourselves physical bodies.

These physical bodies we created for our-selves

also required the slowing down of our divine energy.
You see, the energy of God, of which we are, oscillates,
vibrates, at incredible speed.

In order for us to have physical experience, this

energy has to be stepped down slower and slower and
slower until we achieve a physical density. Or to be

44
more precise what we perceive to be a physical
density.

Our various bodies

The slowing of our energy begins at the level of

the divine and finishes, for us, at the level of the
physical.

In between these levels, like the layers of an

onion, are the energy images of several other bodies.
These bodies, or step-down energy images as they can
be more accurately called, have been detected by
clairvoyants and psychics throughout the ages and
have been given many different names.

To better understand these phenomena, think

about having seen a wrongly exposed photograph.

It can create a double and sometimes triple

image, giving the impression of seeing a body within a
body. Impression, actually, is a very good description
of what is occurring.

For at every point of the energy step-down

procedure, an impression is left as it interacts with the
surrounding energy field. This is because the universe
is going through the very same step-down procedures,
thereby creating many other separate realities where
we can also have experiences.

The planes of existence

As already mentioned, the names given to these

energy-body impressions and planes of existence can
vary in number, type and name according to which

45
source the information comes from. But in general
terms, consist of the following:

Physical
Astral
Mental
Intuitional
Spiritual
Monadic
Divine

These seven planes of existence, each have

seven sub-divisions which each have seven sub-
divisions, which each have seven sub-divisions, which
each have…

…and so on, and so on until you reach the seventh

sub division of the seventh sub-division.

Quite a lot then, isn’t there?

And did you notice something about the number

seven? It appeared quite a few times - huh? It’s very
popular with occultists and the like.

Seven is known as the number of spirituality,

sensitivity and mystery.

For all practical purposes, and we are all about

being practical, these various other bodies and planes
of existence have very limited impact on life in the
physical realm.

They do exist, as do all the other realities, such

as past lives, future lives, parallel lives etc; but just
knowing and recognising that they are there is quite
enough. They do not really impact our normal day-to-
day lives in any concrete way so they are,

46
consequently, and just for the moment, fairly
unimportant.

Many ‘New Age’ people, of course, will totally

disagree.

They will say that developing these bodies along

with the different abilities available within them is most
important. They will say that to neglect these parts of
yourself and not to try and explore these other realms
is to limit your true potential.

And we have no problem with this way of

thinking, if it is what you truly believe. But we would
just ask you to consider this…

Be physical in this physical universe

We have chosen to be physical in a physical

universe. The important words here are chosen and
physical. We had the choice to be non-physical but we
decided against it, we wanted to experience being God
through physical means.

Why therefore, having made this choice, should

we then be trying to develop and experience these non-
physical parts of ourselves? To us it just seems to be an
unnecessary waste of energy to be focusing on
something we have chosen, in the first place, not to
be.

The same could be said of these people who

spend their whole lives in continual meditation in
some cave up a mountain in Tibet or somewhere.

Why are they doing it?

47
It would seem, to us, that these people - far from
displaying profound spiritual understanding – are
missing the point completely.

You have come to a physical universe to be

physical, so BE physical.

Don’t worry about all these other bodies and other

planes of existence for now. They are there, and they
are already a part of you. It can be no other way.

They will not disappear and your ‘spirituality’

will not suffer, even if you don’t give them any energy
at all. Far better, we think, to concentrate instead, on
understanding physical life from a physical perspective.

It is, after all, the reason you came.

You see, there are too many people going around

trying to be something they are not, out of a profound
misunderstanding of who they are and why they are
here.

They think that spiritual ‘growth’ has to be about

withdrawing from life and that only by dedicating
oneself purely to meditation, chanting, ritual, and
prayer will it be possible for spiritual understanding
and enlightenment to manifest itself.

Just know that none of this is necessary.

What is the point of struggling and striving to be

what you already are. You already are fully enlightened
for you are God. You just don’t remember this fact yet,
that’s all.

Okay then. We hope that by now you are

beginning to realise (to make real) just how powerful
you really are - and that this power within you really
is the divine power of God.

48
Well, we think it’s about time we covered a little
more about the subject of Reiki.

All the areas we have just spoken about will

become clear, in the fullness of time, particularly when
your own vibratory level begins to be raised back up
again through your Reiki attunements.

So what better place to start our visit back to

Reiki than with:

The History of Reiki

If you already know about or do not want to

know about this, please feel free to skip on to the next
section.

We quite understand. In fact we’ll even give you

a little link to get you to the next bit faster.

Just click here

Okay then – if you’re coming with us - let’s get

going…

…There are presently two different versions of

how Reiki came to be ‘re-discovered’ doing the rounds.

There is the ‘Western’ version and the ‘Eastern’

version. We will look at the ‘Western’ version first, and
it goes something like this.

49
Western version

In the mid 1800’s, the Meiji period, Dr Mikao

Usui was the dean of a small Christian university called
Doshisha University in Kyoto Japan.

During one of his classes several students wanted

to know whether he believed in the Bible.

Dr Usui replied that he did indeed believe.

The students then asked if he believed in Jesus’

ability to heal the sick. Again Dr Usui replied that he
did. The students pressed his beliefs further.

They quoted Jesus’ statement “You can do this

too, and more”, and asked when, if Dr Usui also
accepted this as being true, they would be taught how
to heal just like Jesus.

Now Dr Usui was a Japanese of very traditional

values. He was not able to pass these teachings on to
his students and honour demanded that he resign.

He did so, immediately.

Dr Usui leaves Japan

He decided that he would make it his life’s

mission to seek out the ability to heal as Jesus had
done and went off in search of this knowledge. He
reasoned that as Jesus was a Christian he would find
this knowledge in a Christian country and travelled to
America.

On his arrival in America Dr Usui studied at the

University of Chicago. Despite spending seven years

50
studying Christianity, philosophy, the scriptures and
several other religions, he was unable to find the
knowledge he sought.

He had learned that Jesus was said to have

travelled throughout India and Tibet and so decided
that he too would follow in his footsteps.

Further studies in Buddhism

It was here that Dr Usui learned Sanskrit and

studied the Indian and Tibetan Sutras. But still he was
unable to find what he sought and so decided to travel
back to Japan to further his studies in Buddhism, as he
knew Buddha had also healed the sick.

Kyoto, at that time, had all the largest

monasteries so naturally Dr Usui continued his search
there.

He visited every monastery in turn, asking the

monks whether they were able to heal as Buddha had
done. The response from each monastery was always
the same. No.

They were aware that Buddha had healed the

physical body and that it was written in the Sutras.

However it was their belief that healing the spirit

was more important and because of this they did not
know how to heal the body.

Dr Usui was becoming more and more despondent

but he did not give up his search. He continued on and
came across a Zen monastery.

It was here that he met with great support for his

search.

51
Even though the monks at this monastery were
also concentrating on healing the spirit they believed
that the knowledge for healing the body would be made
available to them through their meditations.

They invited Dr Usui to join them.

Nearing the end of his search

He spent three years there, searching the Sutras

and meditating with the other monks, and eventually
he discovered a formula for contacting a higher power
able to bestow on the seeker abilities for healing the
physical body.

This formula was, in itself, very simple, but it

was going to need interpreting and testing to see if it
worked.

Through meditation and discussion with the other

monks, Dr Usui came to the realisation that
enlightenment on how to use the formula would be
given to him if he fasted and meditated for 21 days.

Mount Kurama

Near Kyoto was a very holy mountain called

Mount Kurama, and it was to here that Dr Usui
travelled. He climbed the mountain and found a
beautiful spot, facing east, with water for drinking
nearby.

To prevent himself from losing track of time he

gathered together 21 stones with the intention of
throwing away one stone at the dawn of each new
day.

52
Ready for whatever experience that presented
itself, Dr Usui began his vigil.

Dr Usui sees the light

For twenty days Dr Usui fasted, meditated, read

the scriptures, chanted and prayed without anything
out of the ordinary happening.

Then on the morning of the twenty-first day

whilst looking out into the darkness of the pre-dawn he
noticed what seemed to be a small flicker of light away
in the distance.

As Dr Usui focussed on this light it began to travel

towards him becoming brighter and brighter.

He became very afraid and was in two minds as

to whether to stay or run away. Calming himself he
remembered that this was the very reason he was
there. He stood up and determined that he would stay
where he was and accept anything that happened, even
if that meant his own death.

The light continued to get closer becoming much

brighter as it did so.

Dr Usui was suddenly aware that the light was

actually a consciousness and was seeking to
communicate with him.

It said that this was the enlightenment to

healing others that he had been seeking. He was to
understand however that the light would have to
strike him in the third eye, and it was so powerful it
might actually kill him.

53
The decision to allow this to happen was entirely
up to Dr Usui, it had to be his own choice.

The light strikes

Dr Usui decided to allow the light to strike him.

The force of the blow knocked him unconscious

and it was whilst he was in this trance like state that
he saw beautiful bubbles of coloured lights rising up
before his eyes.

Inside the bubbles were different symbols and as

he studied them he became attuned to their energy.

When Dr Usui regained full consciousness he

knew that what had transpired had been all that he
had been looking for.

He felt tremendously energised and not at all

weary.

Quickly he got his few possessions together, he

wanted to get back to the monastery to share his
experiences with the abbot.

The first miracle

Setting off at a great pace he stumbled, stubbing

his toe quite badly in the process.

The pain lanced through his body and he

instinctively bent down and cupped the damaged toe in
his hands. Immediately the pain began to subside and
a few minutes later both the pain and the bleeding had
stopped completely.

54
Dr Usui was thrilled. It was like a miracle.

There was something very different about his

hands now. They seemed to have emanated a
tremendous heat whilst he was holding his toe.

Quickly he got back to his feet and hurried off

down the mountain in the direction of the monastery.

At the foot of the mountain he came across a

typical Japanese snack bar that had been set up to feed
weary travellers. Dr Usui stopped and, with great
enthusiasm, ordered a full breakfast.

The proprietor warned Dr Usui to only have a

light meal of rice gruel. He could see by Dr Usui’s
unkempt and unshaved condition that he had obviously
been meditating and, therefore, fasting for some time.

He did not want his first customer of the day

getting indigestion.

Dr Usui, however, felt so good he ignored the

concerns of the proprietor and ate heartily, finishing the
complete meal with no ill effects whatsoever.

Another miracle.

Dr Usui heals his first patient

As Dr Usui was preparing to pay for the meal the

proprietor’s granddaughter came to clear away the
dishes.

He noticed tears in her eyes and that the side of

her face was very red and swollen.

She appeared to be in great pain.

55
On enquiring from the proprietor as to why this
was, he learned that the young girl had been suffering
severe toothache for many days. He also learned that
the proprietor was unable to afford either the time or
the money to take his granddaughter to the dentist
seventeen miles away in Kyoto.

Overwhelmed with compassion

Dr Usui was overwhelmed with compassion and

asked for permission to attempt to heal her.

The girl gladly accepted this offer of help and

allowed Dr Usui to gently cup her face in his hands.
Within seconds the discomfort began to subside and
minutes later the pain and the swelling had
completely disappeared.

A third miracle.

With the profuse thanks of the proprietor and the

girl ringing in his ears Dr Usui set off on the rest of his
journey back to the monastery.

On arrival he learned that the abbot had been

laid up in bed with an acute attack of arthritis.

Wasting no time he went to his old friend and

whilst recounting his experiences on the mountain
gently rested his hands on the abbots body. Again
within moments the discomfort began to subside and
minutes later had disappeared altogether.

The abbot was astonished at this demonstration

of healing and as the two friends talked into the night
it was decided that the best thing to do next would be
to go out into the city to heal the sick.

56
Dr Usui chose to go out and take up residence in
the Beggars Kingdom.

He spent the next seven years working in this

poor part of Kyoto, helping as many people as he could.

Many remarkable healings took place and Dr

Usui was content with his life until he came across a
beggar that he had healed many years before. Dr
Usui questioned this man as to why he had returned
once more to the life of a beggar, and was extremely
dismayed at the response.

It turned out that the beggar had been, initially,

very happy at having been healed. He had gone back
into the main part of the city and had even found
himself a good job. For a while he had prospered but
the responsibility of looking after himself became too
much for him.

It was much easier living the life of a beggar.

Unfortunately this was not an isolated case. Dr

Usui discovered more and more people who had
returned to begging after having been healed, and it
greatly saddened him.

Perhaps, he thought, the Buddhist monks were

right. Perhaps it was more important to heal the spirit
than the body.

Reiki should not be given for free

Dr Usui went into meditation to seek the

answers on how he could have got it so wrong.

He discovered that his biggest mistake was in

healing the bodies of the beggars without teaching
them the value of responsibility. He also realised that

57
because he had been giving away the healing for free,
none of the beggars had apportioned any value to this
help.

Dr Usui had unwittingly strengthened their belief

in begging as being the only way of getting what they
wanted.

With this realisation he immediately closed his

healing practice and left the Beggars Quarter.

It was also during this period that Dr Usui

developed his Five Principles of Reiki,

1. Just for today, I will let go of anger.

2. Just for today, I will let go of worry.
3. Today, I will count my many blessings.
4. Today, I will do my work honestly.
5. Today, I will be kind to every living creature.
The five principles of Reiki

and became aware that the symbols he had been

shown on Mount Kurama were to be used for initiating
others into this healing system that he now called
Reiki.

For his remaining years Dr Usui travelled the

length and breadth of Japan spreading his Reiki
healing.

On his death in 1926 he had initiated 16 people

as Reiki Masters and had charged one of his most
dedicated students, Dr Chujiro Hayashi, with the
responsibility of preserving and continuing the Reiki
teachings.

58
Dr Chujiro Hayashi

A retired naval officer, a commander in the

Imperial Navy of Japan, Dr Hayashi was forty-seven
when he was initiated as a Reiki Master.

He had spent many years following Dr Usui on his

travels around Japan and had become a very capable
and dedicated healer in his own right. It came as no
surprise, therefore, that Dr Usui, much impressed with
this competent leader of men, rewarded him by
passing to him the title of Reiki Grand Master prior to
his death.

Dr Hayashi went on to open the first Reiki clinic

in Tokyo and it was here whilst using a combination of
observation and clinical record keeping that he
developed the twelve basic hand positions in use
today.

He also refined the attunement process by

dividing it into three separate levels called degrees.

It is not known how many people Dr Hayashi

trained in Reiki but it is known that, being a renowned
psychic, Dr Hayashi foresaw the coming of the Second
World War and decided to pass on Reiki to two
women.

This he did in the knowledge that many of the

men he had trained would be killed in the fighting and
he wanted to ensure that Reiki survived.

The two women he trained were his wife and Mrs

Hawayo Takata.

59
Mrs Hawayo Takata

Mrs Takata was born on 24 December 1900 in

Hanamaulu, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Although
being born in Hawaii, gave her American nationality,
her parents, Mr and Mrs Otogoro Kawamura were
Japanese immigrants.

Her father worked at a sugar plantation on Kauai

and it was the bookkeeper of this plantation, Mr Saichi
Takata, that Hawayo eventually fell in love with and
married.

They had two children but, tragically, Saichi died

in 1930 at the age of thirty-four leaving Hawayo to
bring up the family completely on her own, as her
parents had returned to Japan.

Mrs Takata continued to work at the sugar

plantation but with the loss of her husband’s wage she
found she had to work harder and longer to make ends
meet.

As a result her health began to suffer and in

1935, when on a visit to her parents in Japan, her
condition deteriorated so rapidly she was admitted to
hospital.

She was in the operating theatre being prepared

for surgical intervention when she was strongly
impressed to question the doctor on alternatives to
surgery. Her surgeon, knowing of Dr Hayashi’s work
at the Reiki Clinic, mentioned that she might benefit
from Reiki treatment and suggested she might try it.

Mrs Takata immediately cancelled her operation

and went to the Reiki Clinic for consultation.

Mrs Takata was very encouraged when the

clinics’ diagnosis of her illness, matched the one she

60
had been given by the hospital, and decided to begin
treatment with them.

Over the next few months Mrs Takata attended

the Reiki clinic on a daily basis.

Not only did she experience the wonder of Reiki

at first hand, making a complete recovery, she also
saw Reiki in action with other people. The results
spoke for themselves and Mrs Takata knew she had to
learn the art herself.

Mrs Takata’s two great hurdles

Unfortunately, Mrs Takata had two very large

hurdles to overcome first if she was to be taught Reiki.
Number one, she was a woman and number two, she
was not Japanese. This was 1935, and the notion of
any Japanese art being taught to foreigners was
unthinkable.

And to teach a woman was impossible.

Mrs Takata, though, was not the kind of person to

give up lightly.

She knew that to be taken seriously she would

have to show total commitment and dedication. This
she did and even offered to sell her house in Hawaii to
emphasise her devotion. But all of this may not have
been enough however, had it not been for Dr
Hayashi’s psychic abilities.

As already mentioned, he knew that the Second

World War was coming and that many of the men he
had taught Reiki would be called on to fight and die.

He also knew that a woman would have a greater

chance of surviving this madness.

61
Mrs Takata became the beneficiary of this
insight.

Finally Accepted into Reiki

Mrs Takata’s Reiki instruction began with her

immediately receiving the First Degree initiation.
She spent the next year working with Dr Hayashi and
then received her Second Degree initiation.

On completion of this training she returned to

Hawaii and opened her own Reiki clinic.

In 1938 Dr Hayashi travelled to Hawaii and

ensured the continuance of Reiki by initiating Mrs
Takata as a Reiki Master. Just prior to his death in
1941 he declared Mrs Takata Grand Master.

At this time Mrs Takata was the only practicing

Reiki Master in the West, and for quite a while that was
the way it stayed.

Eventually she saw the need for more Reiki

Masters and, beginning in the 1970’s, initiated 22
people before her death in 1980.

The Eastern Version

Dr Usui was born on August 15th 1865 in the

village of Yago in the Yamagata district of Gifu
prefecture.

He was a very happy and industrious person

who gave a great deal of his life to the study of
metaphysics and spirituality. He read voraciously

62
and became extremely knowledgeable in medicine,
psychology and religious practices from around the
world. He was also known for his abilities as a psychic
and fortune-teller.

Before re-discovering Reiki he had been running

a small business but it had failed, leaving him deeply
demoralised and heavily in debt.

As many people do, when life seems to be letting

them down, he sought help and guidance from ‘Higher
Sources’.

He wanted to know what the meaning of life was

all about. And it was to Mount Kurama that he went to
seek his answers, for it was well known in the area as a
place of spiritual enlightenment.

Dr Usui’s Satori

At that time it was not unusual for people to go on

a twenty-one day meditation and fasting retreat on
the mountain, and it was known that Dr Usui had a
favourite place where he liked to meditate.

It was a beautiful spot near a waterfall and it

was whilst actually meditating under the waterfall that
he had a moment of enlightenment or ‘Satori’ as it is
known in Japanese. This is when the full realisation of
the meaning of life, and the healing system he called
Reiki, became known to him.

From this time on Dr Usui used the Reiki energy

on himself and then on his friends and family.

As it worked well he began using it on the general

public and eventually opened up his first clinic in Tokyo.

63
His fame as a healer began to spread, bringing
people from far and wide. These people came not only
for healing but also to learn the system for
themselves.

This led to the founding of the Reiki movement,

which Dr Usui called ‘Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkei’ (Usui
Healing Method Society).

The Tokyo earthquake

In 1923 a powerful earthquake hit Tokyo causing

massive damage to the city, and death and injuries to
many thousands of inhabitants. Dr Usui used his Reiki
healing to great effect during this time and such was
the success of his Reiki that his first clinic soon
became too small to cope. To rectify this problem a
larger one was built in Nakano outside Tokyo.

Dr Usui’s fame began spreading even further now;

indeed his name began to be known throughout
Japan.

With this fame came invitations to travel to

distant cities, which Dr Usui undertook, and it was while
on one of these visits to Fukuyama that he had a
stroke and died on March 9th 1926.

Now as you can see, the two versions are quite

different. And, wouldn’t you just know it, the

64
proponents of each one claims their version to be the
original and genuine article.

Which one would you like to choose? Either or

neither may be the truth.

Whilst you’re deciding let’s give you another

issue to consider.

Western Reiki has recently ‘discovered’, that

Reiki still exists in Japan. It had not died out in the
Second World War as was originally believed.

Inevitably this has led to comparisons between

the two styles.

There are differences, of course, bringing about

the almost obligatory; ‘Ours is better than yours’
game being played by both sides.

If this weren’t so sad it would be laughable.

Reiki is supposed to enlighten, for God’s sake,

and we really do mean - for God’s sake. This childish
nonsense has no place in Reiki and should be firmly set
aside.

Reiki is the energy of the Divine. It cares not one

jot as to how or where it is brought into the lives of
those who have chosen to receive it.

Reiki simply enters and works regardless.

So, just know and understand this…

Reiki as taught and practised in the West

WORKS.

Reiki as taught and practised in the East

WORKS.

65
It cannot be any other way.

To say any different is to deny the essence of

Reiki itself.

Reiki is the life force energy – the life force

energy is GOD, for in our universe there is only one
energy.

Anyone, therefore, saying that their method of

receiving Reiki is better than another is implying that
God shares their jaundiced view.

How arrogant. How misguided.

Okay, we’ll put the soapbox away for now. But

before we move on too much further let’s just go over
the main issues.

Dr Usui was not a Christian

Dr Usui was almost certainly not a Christian; he

was far more likely to have been a Buddhist. His
knowledge of other religions would probably have
included Christianity but there is no record of him
being Dean of Doshisha University in Kyoto.

It is known that he did travel to western countries

and China, but there is no record of him attending
Chicago University as either a student or lecturer.

He was not a doctor in the conventional western

sense, his Japanese students or disciples referred to
him as Usui-Sensei (sensei means teacher). [We have
no problem in continuing to call him doctor though, by
the way].

Reiki was not just an oral teaching Dr Usui and Dr

Hayashi both produced manuals for their students.

66
No Grand Master Title

There was no title of Grandmaster created;

instead there was a president of the Usui Reiki Ryoho
Gakkei. Dr Usui was, quite obviously, the first
president. There have been six further Presidents: Mr
Ushida, Mr Taketomi, Mr Watanabe, Mr Wanami, Mrs
Koyama and finally Mr Kondo who is the present
president at the time of writing.

Reiki did not die out in Japan and only become

available in the West through Mrs Takata, as some
people believe.

The existence of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkei now

known as Usui Kai confirms this.

Dr Hayashi was not given the title of Grandmaster

(for as we have said this title did not and does not
exist) he was a respected disciple of Dr Usui who had
been granted teacher status. Dr Hayashi did teach Mrs
Takata and did pass on the complete teachings to her.

He obviously did not pass on to her the title of

Grandmaster.

Dr Usui did not develop the five principles; he

adapted them from the Meiji Emperor and which were:

The five principles of the Meiji

Emperor

Don’t get angry today.

Don’t worry today.
Be grateful today.
Work hard today.
Be kind to others today.

67
The Reiki that was taught by Dr Usui probably
consisted of the following five items:

1. The ability to channel the Reiki energy and

give Reiki treatments.

2. The attunement symbols and the ability to

pass on Reiki to others.

3. The three degrees of Reiki.

4. The five Reiki principles.

5. The necessity to charge for a treatment

Dr Hayashi added the twelve hand positions of

Reiki through his observations on healing taking place
in his clinic.

Mrs Takata introduced the high fee structure of

$10,000 for taking the Reiki Master attunement

Students of Mrs Takata introduced the required

waiting times between the classes for the attunements.

A clearer picture?

We hope this is beginning to bring a somewhat

clearer picture of Reiki history to those people who
may already be involved in the art, and who might
have received mixed messages from others.

If you are new to Reiki, please ignore and

forgive the political wrangling and just enjoy Reiki for
what it is.

68
Drawing some final conclusions

As you can now see, Traditional Reiki, if there

could ever be such a thing, can probably only be the
Reiki as taught by Dr Usui.

He taught his students how to use the Reiki

energy for healing, both themselves and others. The
three degrees of Reiki (although in Japan they teach
six). The ability to pass the energy on to others
through the attunement processes. The five principles
of Reiki, sometimes known as the Reiki Ideals. And
possibly the notion that people have to pay for Reiki
treatments.

As far as we are aware at this time, that’s it.

That is the entirety of Reiki as originally taught

by Dr Usui to over 2000 people.

He almost certainly did not teach crystal grids,

psychic surgery, the healing attunement, the
Antahkarana, Tibetan Reiki, Karuna Reiki, Seichem,
Tera-Mai, Raku Kei, Sekhem, Advanced Reiki or any of
a host of other techniques and trainings now available.

All of these are add-ons and have been

introduced by other Reiki Masters who have followed
on after.

Most of these additions are quite valid in there

own right and can be extremely useful.

Some, like the splitting up of Reiki into many

more levels is not. That, to us, would appear to be just
going for the money!

It also has to be taken into account that Dr Usui

was a great student of metaphysics and spirituality,
and, from what we can make out, very eclectic in

69
nature. The probability, therefore, is very high that he
might have gone on to expand Reiki by including these
extras himself, had they proved to be useful.

As far as we are concerned, bringing Reiki into

your life is and always should be a wonderful
experience. For us it is simply the act of experiencing
God more directly. It has nothing to do with religion of
any kind. God is not accessible purely through a
religion.

For us Reiki simply means this:

Personal Communion with God

This is, of course, our interpretation of the word.
You see, in Japan, Reiki is a generic term for healing;
which is why the Reiki founded by Dr Usui was called
Usui Shiki Ryoho (Usui System of Natural Healing).

Interpreting the word Reiki

In Japanese the Kanji Ideogram Rei apparently

can be interpreted as having several meanings, (and
we say apparently because we cannot read Japanese
ourselves and have to rely on others).

Anyway, the meanings for Rei are - universal,

holy, spiritual consciousness.

The kanji for Ki can mean - energy, life force,

vital force that animates all living things.

So from this it can be seen that the word Reiki

can be translated into – the universal and holy,
spiritually conscious, life force energy that
energises and animates all living things.

70
Are there many more apt descriptions of God?

Even if you are someone who can’t, at the

moment, bring yourself to believe in such an entity, or
prefer to use another name.

Right we are then, that’s the potted history of

Reiki.

Don’t take any of it too seriously.

Just remember, Reiki was not ‘invented’ by Dr

Usui, it was already there. He merely discovered or,
more accurately, re-discovered a method for pulling it
more clearly into his life.

Reiki does not, indeed cannot, belong to any

one society, country or person.

It belongs to everyone.

To imagine differently would be like believing only

members of a certain religion have the right to breathe
the air. Reiki, just like air, is everywhere and can be
drawn upon by anyone at any time.

So, let’s leave these thorny issues there for now

and get down to…

The Reiki Attunement

Okay then. First of all we’ll introduce you to the

symbols as used in Western Usui Reiki.

Now please understand…

71
These symbols are only like switches; they do not
hold the power of Reiki within them. These symbolic
switches serve only to focus and concentrate your
intention.

Remember – always remember -you are the

only power in your universe.

*
So, practice drawing the following symbols and
get to the stage where you can easily do it from
memory.

The simplest way is to take just one symbol at a

time and keep on copying it out until it fixes in your
mind. Don’t try to rush this process, there’s no need to
hurry. Trying to cram them all into your head at one
sitting will probably end up with you being totally
confused.

As you draw each one say its Sacred Name over

and over, so as this lodges in your memory too.

When you feel confident in your ability to draw

them on paper from memory, practice drawing them
out in the air before you.

There are several ways you can do this.

Use you fire finger, which is your middle finger –

the palm of your hand – your eyes - the tip of your
nose – the tip of your tongue – or you can just see
each Symbol fully formed in your minds eye.

Whichever method you choose, and there are no

rights or wrongs here, hold the intention that the
Symbol is really being drawn out in front of you.

84
There we are then. Those are all the Symbols you
need to know to make Reiki a powerful part of your
reality.

Yes, others may tell you different, but take it

from us. You don’t need any other Symbols and you
don’t need any other style or form of Reiki.

Of course if you want to take other styles of Reiki

that’s fine. Just know – you don’t actually need to.
When you have attuned yourself to Usui Reiki through
the following Chikara-Reiki-Do self-initiation – you will
have all you will ever require.

So, let’s move on to – and you have to be

imagining a fantastic bugle fan fare here - the…

Self Initiation & Attunement to Reiki

The ceremony you’re about to follow for this

initiation is very similar in theme to the one you would
have experienced had you gone to a Reiki Master. It is
just as powerful - in fact probably more so.

The Reiki Master would have used intention and

breath to attune you. You’re going to use intention
and water.

Water? Yes water.

You see water is not just vital for life - it also has
some very special properties, which are only now
being understood by our scientists.

And one of these special properties lies in the

ability of water to…

Accept, store and transfer information.

85
What kind of information? Any information – in
any form.

Water can accept, store and transfer to other

systems such as living systems the information
contained within…

Photographs
Thoughts
Spoken Words
Written Words
Sounds
Prayers
Pictures
Music
Singing
Chanting

Yes, we know it sounds incredible, even a bit far

fetched. But once you’ve seen the 2photographic
evidence you’ll know it to be true. Water changes its
molecular structure when any of the above is actively
directed at it.

There are only a few people doing research in this

area at present. Most scientists, of course, debunk
everything that has been discovered – but what’s new
there.

They’ve debunked almost everything at one

time or another. Heck, they probably still can’t admit
that bumblebees can fly!

Water can and does carry the energetic impulses

– the energetic information – of anything consciously
and intentionally directed towards it. Whole tracts of
polluted water have been restored to a cleaner

86
condition just by the action of a few people praying for
that outcome.

Loving thoughts make the crystalline structure of

water beautiful – hateful thoughts make it ugly.
Beautiful music creates beautiful structure - some of
the modern stuff makes it hideous.

Water is us

We’re over sixty five percent water by weight and

our brains are almost eighty percent. Is it any wonder
we’re so impressionable?

Yes, the magic of water is immense and you’re

about to experience it for yourself.

The following initiation ceremony uses water that

has been consciously altered. Consciously altered, by
you, to carry the power of the attunement process
deep within your body. Every cell will then begin to
resonate with this new information making you a very
powerful Reiki Master.

So, like we say - you’re going to use intention and

water and, oh yes, a bit of sound and color too.

But first things first – read through the whole of

this section on what to do a couple of times before
doing anything else…

…gather together everything you’ll need the day

before you have decided to carry out your initiation.
Then follow the sequence as written.

Okay? Off we go.

First of all you will have to decide on where you

are going to carry out the attunement process. It is

87
quite important that you are not disturbed, so
somewhere you can be by yourself is best.

There is no great esoteric reasoning behind why

this should be so, by the way. Nothing terrible will
happen. It’s just that interruption serves to break your
concentration, focus and intention, that’s all.

So make all the necessary arrangements to keep

yourself uninterrupted, ahead of time.

Next decide on whether you want to make the

ceremony more personal to you by having some of
your favorite, soothing music playing in the
background.

If so get your player and music set up.

Would you like to have incense and or candles

burning? Make sure you’ve got them all to hand if you
do. And don’t forget the matches.

Now decide if you want to sit or kneel during the

initiation. It makes no difference to the attunement
itself. Your only concern should be about comfort and
what feels best to you.

Okay then, that’s the space prepared. Just make

sure it’s comfortable and has a ‘nice’ feel. And by that
we mean whatever feels nice to you. A table or small
clear space on the floor will also be needed.

The next thing to do is gather together seven

glass tumblers. Now we say tumblers here, but it
doesn’t matter if they are tall glasses or short ones. It
doesn’t even matter if they don’t all match. What does
matter is that they are all plain, uncolored and have no
pictures, patterns or motifs on them.

88
You will now need some colored card or paper in
these seven colors – red, orange, yellow, green, blue,
purple and white.

From each sheet of card cut out a square, which is

slightly bigger than the base of your glasses. Kinda like
coaster size would be good. Then cut a narrow label
size strip from each sheet as well.

Okay then.

You should now have seven coaster size squares

– one of each color – and seven labels – one of each
color.

On the red square, using either a pen or pencil,

draw out the Power Symbol. On the red label size piece
of card, write out the sacred name ‘Cho-Ku-Rei’ three
times.

Sellotape this label to one of your tumblers.

Take the orange square and draw out the

Mental/Emotional Symbol on it. Write out the Sacred
Name ‘Sei-He-Ki’ three times on the orange label, and
stick it on a separate tumbler.

Getting the idea?

On the yellow square draw the Distance Symbol

and write out the sacred name ‘Hon-Sha-Ze-Sho-
Nen’ on the yellow label. Yes, you got it – stick the
label on another tumbler.

The green square should have the Tibetan Master

Symbol drawn on it. The green label should have
‘Dai-Ko-Mio’ written out three times, and then stuck
to a tumbler.

89
With the blue square draw the Usui Master
Symbol and write out Dai-Ko-Myo three times on the
blue label. Yup, stick the label to a tumbler.

On the purple square the Fire Serpent Symbol

with Raku written three times on the label stuck to a
tumbler.

On the last square, the white square, draw out all

the symbols and write all six sacred names three
times each onto the white label. Stick this label onto
the last tumbler.

So, what have we got now?

Seven different colored squares each with the

appropriate symbol drawn on it. Seven clear glass
tumblers separately labeled with the appropriate
Sacred Name.

If that’s what you’ve got sitting before you, we’re

in business.

Now on the evening of the day before you

intend to carry out your Reiki Self-Attunement, pour
some filtered or bottled mineral water into each of
your tumblers. There doesn’t have to be a lot of water
in each tumbler, three or four mouthfuls is enough.

Just make sure that the water comes above the

level of the writing on the label. So if you don’t like to
drink much water – although you really should be
drinking at least two liters every day – make sure you
stick the labels as low down as you can get them on the
glass.

Place the red-labeled tumbler on the red square

of card, the orange-labeled tumbler on the orange
card, the yellow-labeled tumbler on the yellow
square, etc until each tumbler is sitting on its matching
colored square.

90
Incidentally, all these tumblers with the colored
squares under them are placed on your table, or on the
floor of the space you cleared.

Please forgive us if you think we’ve written out

these instructions too simplistically. We’re really not
trying to insult your intelligence. It’s just that,
sometimes, written routines can be hard to follow,
especially if you haven’t had the benefit of a practical
demonstration first.

Forgiven us? Excellent.

Okay then. These tumblers of water are going to

remain on the colored squares over night, so they
need to be covered. A clean towel will do fine as it’s
only to keep dust and insects out.

In the morning, just prior to your self-

attunement, arrange the tumblers – still on their
coasters - directly in front of where you will be sitting
or kneeling. You will need to be able to easily reach
each one without having to get up.

Please arrange them in the following order…

If you are right handed place the red-labeled

tumbler on the right hand side of your table or space.
Next to it on its immediate left will come the orange
labeled one. Next to that the yellow, then the green,
the blue, purple and then lastly the white.

If you are left handed place the red tumbler on

the left side of your table or space, then the orange
one on its immediate right followed by the yellow,
green, blue, purple and white.

The reason for this way of placing, as you have

probably already guessed, is because you’re going to
drink the water in sequence.

91
It just makes them a lot easier to pick up.

So, let’s begin the ceremony.

If you have chosen to have some pleasant music

playing in the background, put it on. Similarly light the
candles and/or incense.

Kneel or sit down in front of your tumblers of

water and allow yourself to relax fully. Close your eyes,
take a few really deep breaths and let all your cares
just drift away.

When you feel that you are ready, open your

eyes…

…Pick up the first tumbler – the red labeled one –

and holding it up in front of your face with both hands,
chant the Sacred Name, Cho-Ku-Rei out loud,
directing your voice towards the tumbler.

Hold the glass for a few moments, and then drink

the water. Do so intending and knowing that both
the Symbol and the Sacred Name are being completely
absorbed into your body, mind and spirit.

Put the tumbler to one side, pick up the second

one – the orange labeled one – and repeat the process,
chanting aloud, three times, the Sacred Name written
on the glass.

Continue the process until you have chanted into,

and drunk the water of, all seven tumblers.

Yes, with the seventh one you will have to chant

the names of all six separate Sacred Names – three
times each.

Now, gently close your eyes once again and just

sit still for a few moments.

92
When you are ready…

Draw out, in the air just above your left palm, the
Usui Master Symbol using the fire finger of your right
hand. Imagine that you are really drawing the Symbol
onto your palm but without touching it. Intend that the
Symbol will sink into your palm just like butter does
into hot toast. As you are doing this quietly, loudly or
silently chant the Sacred Name Dai-Koo-Myo three
times.

Now do exactly the same thing over the palm of

your right hand using the fire finger of your left.

Bring both hands flat together at the front of your

chest, as if praying, and hold them like this for a few
moments, then return them to any comfortable
position.

Raise your dominant hand (right hand if you’re

right handed, left if you’re left handed) to a position
over your crown. Using your fire finger point directly
down at the top of your head and draw out the Raku
symbol. Breathe in deeply and imagine the symbol
being absorbed into you. As you are doing this say out
loud or silently to yourself…

“I open myself up to Divine Love and Wisdom”.

Pause for a few moments and feel the symbol

infusing your body.

Now draw out the Usui Master Symbol in the

same place, breathe it in deeply and repeat...

“I open myself up to Divine Love and Wisdom”.

Pause – as above.

93
Continue with this process using the Tibetan
Master Symbol, the Distance Symbol, the
Mental/Emotional Symbol and then finish with the
Power Symbol.

Always breathe the Symbol deeply into yourself

and whilst doing so say…

“I open myself up to Divine Love and Wisdom”.

Always pause and feel the symbol infusing you.

Okay, nearly finished.

Using the same method as above draw the Raku

Symbol in front of your third eye (a point roughly in
the center of your forehead). Breathe it in, and yes,
repeat the phrase…

“I open myself up to Divine Love and Wisdom”.

Draw out the Usui Master Symbol in front of

your throat. Breathe it in whilst saying the phrase.

Next use the Tibetan Master Symbol in front of

your heart center (a point on the midline of your body
directly between your nipples). Breathe it in and say
the phrase.

Now draw out the Distance Symbol in front of

your solar plexus (a point on the midline of your body
approximately 2 to 3 inches below the end of your
breast bone). Breathe it in – say the phrase.

Draw out the Mental/Emotional Symbol in front

of your Dan Tien (approximately 2 to 3 inches below
your tummy button. Breathe it in – say the phrase.

Last one. Draw out the Power Symbol in front of

your genital area. Breathe it in – say the phrase.

94
Sit for a few moments, then when you feel ready
draw out a large Power Symbol in front of you – by
large we mean the whole length of your body – breathe
it into yourself and say…

“I seal this process with Divine Love and wisdom”.

Okay – you’re done. You are now a Reiki Master.

Not only are you a Usui Reiki Master, a Tibetan

Reiki Master but also a Chikara-Reiki-Do Master.

So…

CONGRATULATIONS

Well now, how do you feel?

If this is just your first read through and you

haven’t actually carried out the initiation ceremony yet
- you’ve probably realized…

…how important it is that you can draw out the

symbols, and say their Sacred Names, completely
from memory…

…haven’t you?

It just makes the job a whole lot easier. It flows

better. It feels more powerful.

If you have carried out the attunement…

Welcome – Reiki Master – you make the world a

better place simply by being here.

95
So, what’s just happened

Well, by leaving the tumblers on the colored

squares over night the water absorbed and stored
the…

• Reiki Symbols
• The Sacred Names
• The seven colors

As you drank the water the energetic information

absorbed by the water, further enhanced with your
chanting, was transferred to you.

Because the seven colors used are the same as

those of the seven Major Chakras (the major energy
centers of the body), each Sacred Symbol and Sacred
Name was carried to, and absorbed into, the
appropriate Chakra.

What does that mean?

It means that each energy center of your body is

now ‘attuned’ to, and responds to, your intention to
use Reiki energy.

Traditional Reiki Attunements only focus on the

Crown, Third Eye and Palm Chakras. You have focused
your intention on – thereby ‘attuning’ - all the Major
Chakras, which means the whole of your body now
resonates with the Reiki energy. (We have included a
page giving more info – for those interested - at the
end of the book).

Welcome then, to Chikara-Reiki-Do.

The ‘whole body’ Reiki.

96
What you may experience

You may experience a variety of things during the

attunement process.

You may see beautiful colors, or smell comforting

aromas. Feelings of great love may well up within you
or you may be reduced to tears. You may even sense
or even see, others in the room along with you – your
guides or spirit helpers.

Any all or none of these things may happen, but

all is okay.

Just decide to allow whatever happens to

happen, and be aware that for the majority of people
nothing out of the ordinary happens at all.

Most just feel very relaxed and peaceful.

And that’s just fine.

Once you have completed the attunement, Reiki

remains with you for life, even if that ability is not
used for long periods of time.

Even if you never - ever - consciously use it

again.

Using the Symbols

Now, before we go any further, and as we have

already said - the Symbols themselves do not have
any power at all.

It is vital that you understand this.

97
No symbol has any power unless and until you
give the power to it first.

The Reiki Symbols themselves are just so many

squiggles on paper until you empower them with your
intention.

Usui was well aware of this.

In fact in the beginning there where no Symbols

or Sacred Names at all. They were only introduced
when it was discovered that some Reiki students were
having trouble in recognizing, initiating, holding and
differentiating between the various aspects of the Reiki
energy.

Imagine the difficulty in understanding the

subtle differences between the Power energy, the
Distance energy, the Mental/Emotional energy and the
Master energy right now for instance.

Not an easy task.

Now think about these differences and imagine

someone trying to describe these subtle variations just
by talking to you…

Sounds a little bit like trying to describe a color to

a person who can’t see, doesn’t it?

Anyway ol’ Usui was wise to this dilemma. He

associated a symbol with a state of being and fixed
this into the minds of his students. It was his
intention, and belief, that each symbol would
represent a certain state of mind. It was the belief and
intention of the students that each symbol would
represent a certain state of mind.

Belief and intention made it so.

98
It was now much easier to manifest the different
aspects of the Reiki energy. In fact they became like
switches – visualize one Symbol and the energy flowed,
visualize another and there was a subtle change.

Now realize that it is just your intention, which

changes, not the Reiki energy.

There is only one energy in the universe – the

energy of God the energy of Love – and it is constant
throughout the universe. Reiki is just a different aspect
of this one energy.

If you are having trouble with the concept of

different aspects of the same energy, think of it like
this…

Think of a light, any light and remember it. (No,

this is not the preamble into some sort of card trick, so
don’t try to put it back in the pack).

Okay then, have you got it in your minds eye? So,

how do you see it? How do you see this visible light?

Something bright? Something glowing? Something

illuminating?

Yes, these descriptions are all fine. What you

probably won’t visualize, however, is all the different
aspects – the different colors - of light. You won’t see
the red, the orange, the yellow etc. And you certainly
won’t be aware of anything else in the electromagnetic
spectrum.

You just see light – which is all the colors.

Does that make it any easier? All the aspects –

the colors - of light are there within it; we just don’t
see them individualized, that’s all.

Got it? Excellent.

99
This analogy can also be used to further clarify
the problems Usui faced in helping his students to
connect with the various aspects of the Reiki energy.

If we asked you to visualize and hold in your

minds eye the wavelength 650nm, could you do it?

Probably not.

But if we asked you to visualize and hold in your

minds eye the color red, you’d find it somewhat easier
wouldn’t you? Well, as you’ve probably already
guessed, 650nm is the wavelength of the color red.

You can see how much easier it is to hold the

picture – the visual representation - the symbol - of
something, in your mind.

It’s a whole lot easier than trying to hold on to

something insubstantial isn’t it?

Now...

Hold the visualization of the color red in your

minds eye.

Are you doing that? Okay. Now visualize the color

blue.

Has the light around you changed in any

discernible way?

No. Your focus changed but the light did not.

You have just channeled two frequencies of light
through your conscious mind and the light was not
diminished. The light remained constant.

It is the same with Reiki.

100
Reiki is ‘all around’ us just like light. The Sacred
Symbols allow us to access and consciously channel the
different frequencies of this energy. If you change your
focus from, say, the Power Symbol to the Distance
Symbol – the frequency changes but the Reiki does
not.

The Reiki energy, just like light, is not diminished.

It is simply your intention, which changes, not the
Reiki.

Right you are then; let’s get back to the Symbols.

Activating the Symbols

This is very simple.

All you have to do is either…

• Visualize the Symbol.

• Draw it out in the air.
• Draw it out on paper.
• Say its Sacred Name three times.
• Simply intend to use Reiki.

Saying the Sacred Name of each Symbol three

times helps to concentrate your intention.

Power Symbol uses

The power symbol can be thought of as the

initiator and the sealer. In other words when you
intend to use Reiki, in any situation, use the Power
Symbol to start with. Do whatever it is you are going
to do with the Reiki, for example empowering your

101
goals, and then finish the session by using the power
symbol once more.

Okay then let’s list a few uses…

• Draw a couple out on some paper and put

them in your shoes to help re-energize you.
• Stand your food on one to empower it.
• Draw one out over your food to bless it.
• Do the same with any drink.
• Draw one out over your list of goals to
energize and empower them.
• Draw one out over each Chakra to cleanse
and empower yourself.
• Visualize one in your palm when shaking
someone’s hand to give them a blessing.
• Visualize one in each palm whilst holding a
dead battery. It can re-energize it.
• Visualize one covering the doorway to the
room of an important meeting. As you walk
through - the Symbol will fill you with
confidence and presence.
• Draw it out over your mail shots to bless and
empower them.
• Draw it out onto the walls ceilings and floors
of rooms to bless and empower them.
• Draw it out over the doors and windows of
your house to help protect them from
unwanted entry.
• Draw one out over the palms of your hands,
then whilst holding a quartz crystal, visualize
the Symbol melting into it. This empowered
crystal can be used for protection. Place in
cars, houses, pockets – anywhere.

Incidentally, just in case you were wondering.

When we say draw out the Symbol we don’t mean draw
it out literally.

If you’re using it on your goals list for example

then yes, of course, draw it out with a pen or pencil

102
directly on the list. But don’t go painting it out on the
walls of your house - unless, of course, you really want
to. Just draw it out in the air with your fire finger or
palm etc. and then visualize it sinking in.

Right, let’s move on to - uses for the…

Mental/Emotional Symbol uses

This Symbol is all about balance and harmony –

use it on any situation where this is required. In healing
it helps address and balance the mental and emotional
reasons behind the physical ailment.

Use it when and if…

• Feeling under stress of any kind. It helps

you to relax and take a balanced view.
• You have one-sided complaints such as a
painful left knee and shoulder. It will balance
the energy out.
• Struggling to balance your feelings about
money. When your heart says yes and your
head says no.
• You are in conflict with someone and seem
to be constantly arguing. Place the symbol
between you to harmonize and balance the
negative feelings.
• Your self-image needs improving or any time
you feel out of balance. Just imagine the
Symbol above your head and let it sink down
into you.
• You have a headache brought on by mental
or emotional stress. Draw the Symbol on
both your palms and place them on the
temples until the pain begins to ease.
• Needing to remember something. Visualize
the Symbol above your head, allow it to sink

103
down into you, then relax and let go. The
answer will pop into your mind quite quickly.
• Reciting your affirmations. Visualize the
Symbol above your head again, let it sink
down and then run through your list.
• Needing to concentrate. Let the Symbol sink
into your head (as written above) wait for a
few minutes - then attend to the task.

In fact you can use it whenever and wherever

you need to bring balance and harmony. There are
literally hundreds of uses for this Symbol. As there are
for all the Reiki Symbols. You are only limited by your
own imagination.

And, then again, you can even use the

Mental/Emotional Symbol to enhance your
imagination!

Distance Symbol uses

The Distance Symbol is quite a remarkable one. It

is generally used for sending healing to anyone or
anything that you are not able to touch right now.

This happens if the person is on the other side of

the room or the other side of the world.

Time is no barrier either. The use of this Symbol

can send Reiki into the past or the future. So if you
want to send healing to an event that occurred in the
past, now’s your chance.

If you are not sure why you would want to do this

consider…

An emotionally traumatic event that may have

occurred many years ago but which still causes upset
today.

104
Perhaps the loss of a loved one who you’ve been
unable to let go. Sending the Distance Symbol to the
time when this happened, along with the
Mental/Emotional Symbol, can be very healing…

…For both of you.

Sending Reiki to a future event also falls within

the capabilities of the Distance Symbol.

What’s this good for?

Well, if you have an exam, an important

meeting etc. Or even some sort of hospital operation
lined up – sending Reiki can help everything go much
more smoothly.

How do you do this?

Write down on a piece of paper exactly when and

where the event did, or is going to, take place. Draw
out the Power Symbol over the paper. Follow this with
Distance Symbol and, if you think it will help, the
Mental/Emotional Symbol too.

Seal the process with another Power Symbol and

then hold the paper in your hands. Intend that the
Reiki travels to this point in time, and it will be so.

Now, if you directed the Reiki to a future time it

will be there to help everything go smoothly when
you arrive.

If you sent it into the past you will begin to feel

more relaxed about whatever trauma that was
affecting you. Keep on repeating the process until you
feel the hold it had on you has been released.

Sending healing to another person follows a

similar method…

105
Write out the name of the person on a piece of
paper. Draw out the Power Symbol over it, followed by
the Distance Symbol and then seal it with another
Power Symbol. Not forgetting to say the Sacred Names
of the Symbols three times each, as you draw them
out.

Yes, you can include a Mental/Emotional Symbol,

within the Power Symbol sandwich as well, if you feel it
will help.

Hold the paper between your palms. Say the

name of the person along with the address, if you know
it, three times. Intend that the Reiki energy flows to
the person and it will be so.

Allow the energy to flow for as long as you feel

comfortable. Ten minutes, twenty, thirty – it’s entirely
up to you.

If you are intending to send Reiki to more than

just one person, it is not necessary to send to just one
person at a time. Simply write all their names down on
the paper, then...

Carry out the same process as above and the

Reiki will flow to everyone on the list.

If you don’t know their addresses, don’t worry

God – the bigger part of you - knows them all.

By the way, you can also use a photograph of

the person instead of writing their name. Draw out the
Symbols on the back of the photo’ and hold this in your
hands.

106
Usui Master Symbol

This Symbol is generally used just for initiating

others into Reiki. It is the first symbol used when
beginning the initiation ceremony.

As for its other uses, what can we say? Use it for

anything and everything.

Whatever you want to positively influence and

empower – use the Usui Master Symbol. There are no
limitations as to its use.

Tibetan Master Symbol

As with the Usui Master Symbol this one is also

used mainly in the initiation ceremonies. Only this
time, obviously, it is used for attuning people to the
Tibetan Reiki energies.

It is generally accepted, nonetheless, that this

Symbol is good for clearing blocked or negative
energy. So any time you feel like a good clear out, use
it. And we do mean for all kinds of clearing – from
constipation to unwanted ghostly apparitions.

Fire Serpent Symbol

This is essentially a symbol for centering energies,

such as the aura or Chakras. And, once again, is used
mainly during the Tibetan initiation ceremony.

It can, of course, also be used during a healing

treatment if you think it would be beneficial. For
example if your client is feeling frazzled, uncoordinated

107
or disorientated etc. It’s kinda like the pull yourself
together Symbol.

Draw it out along the whole length of the

person’s spine - from the top of the head down to the
tailbone. This will balance, cleanse and harmonize the
Chakras.

Experiences after Initiation

Esoterically speaking, Reiki attunements are akin

to the first steps of your spiritual journey home to
knowing you are God.

These steps may begin with a cleansing of your

physical body and a gentle clearing of the emotional
and mental ‘baggage’ we all seem to carry with us.

A Gentle Clearing

It’s not unusual, therefore, for you to go through

some kind of catharsis after the attunements. But this
is not something you should be concerned about.

It’s just the release of trapped emotional energy

patterns and is just part of the alignment process. So
if you suddenly feel like crying or raging etc for no
apparent reason it’s okay. If you’re in a safe and
appropriate environment just let go and if necessary
let rip.

It really is okay.

108
You may also experience cold like symptoms,
which, again, should not unduly concern you, as they
are only signs of internal detoxification and healing.

What is happening is this…

Because of your intention to allow more energy

to enter into your reality, your aura and Chakras are
clearing and adjusting to enable you to channel it
more efficiently.

After this initial adjustment period, you may

begin to experience a refinement of your belief
systems. You may even begin to feel somehow
different.

You may find you are becoming a more

‘balanced’ person.

For those who want to heal others

Once you have carried out your attunement, you

will have an enhanced ability to heal yourself, others,
plants and animals. So activate the Reiki, place your
hands on whoever or whatever you intend to heal, and
the healing energy will flow automatically.

If you intend to use Reiki in this way, it will be

extremely beneficial if, for the first month or so, you
give as many healing sessions as possible including a
daily self-healing.

This helps settle the energy within you and works

to ‘strengthen your Reiki muscles’.

One of the marvelous things about Reiki and

healing is this…

109
You are working with the intelligence and
consciousness of God. You don’t have to know anything
about healing at all. God knows exactly what to do and
when to do it.

All you have to do is know that…

You are just a channel

Always remember this.

You are acting purely as a channel for the Reiki

energy to enter, in a more focused way, the life of the
person you are offering healing.

As far as the person receiving the Reiki is

concerned you are not the source of the healing, God
is.

And for all practical purposes this is what is

actually happening. Which explains why giving
treatments does not drain you personally.

It could be said, quite accurately, that during a

healing session both of you are being healed. Because
the Reiki energy also acts and works upon you as well
as the person you are offering healing. And remember,
the energy heals on all of the body’s levels, physical,
emotional, mental and spiritual.

Giving a Reiki treatment

A Reiki treatment can last for anything between a

couple of minutes to an hour or more.

It’s entirely up to you.

110
If you are going to use Reiki Healing as a
profession, though, perhaps a half hour would be the
minimum.

During this time the energy will communicate to

the higher self, the God within, of the person you are
treating and then direct itself to all the areas that need
healing.

You can use the conventional hand positions as

given by Dr Hayashi, when first starting out. (We have
listed these at the end of the book).

Adopt your own approach

However, you will find as you develop, through

practicing the giving of Reiki, you’ll begin to adopt your
own approach.

This is absolutely fine.

As far as we are concerned, the timings and

positions are only meant as a general guide for the
beginner.

Also know that it really, really doesn’t matter

where you put your hands for, as just mentioned, the
energy goes to wherever it is needed. It will just
encourage the person you are healing to trust you
more if, for example, they have a painful shoulder and
you put your hands on their shoulder…

…and not on their foot.

Just remember that during every healing session

the energy will flow to all the parts of the physical body
where it is needed.

111
It also flows to the mental/emotional levels where
the true source of the illness may be located.

Now whilst you’re doing healing don’t become too

attached to results. Just allow whatever happens to
happen. After all, you are simply acting as the channel.
As explained, Reiki contains God consciousness and you
must trust that the recipient is receiving exactly what
is needed.

You cannot, therefore, make a mistake with

Reiki…

• You cannot give too much of it.

• You can never apply it wrongly.
• It can never do any harm.
• It is a healing energy, which only works for
good.
• You are not responsible for the results.
• You need never worry about giving Reiki. It
will always be helpful.

The taboo of touch

As Reiki works on a physical level – it is quite

appropriate for you to touch the person who is
receiving the healing. We know that it is becoming
accepted practice among healers not to touch, when
healing, but we find that hard to justify.

We believe people need to be touched. It can be

this very act of giving human touch and kindness that
can have the most profound affect on health.

Too many people today, don’t have enough

human touch in their lives. We understand the people
who are trying to protect the vulnerable from
inappropriate touching and we applaud their efforts.

112
But it need not, and should not, mean all
touching should be avoided.

In a healing environment, we believe, it is entirely

appropriate to touch the body of the person requiring
healing, and would actively encourage you to do so. It
can only add to the usefulness of Reiki.
Right - off the soapbox - back to the script.

What can Reiki treat?

What can be treated? Anything and everything - if

you’re in doubt, just say that you’re not too sure if it
will work for this but...

Reiki cannot do any harm it can only do good.

Two common sense points for you to bear in mind

when giving a treatment are…

Try to feel Relaxed and calm in yourself. Of

course, it won’t adversely affect the quality of the
Reiki energy flowing through you. It’s just that, if
you’re feeling unduly stressed or agitated it won’t
help fill your client with confidence. And you may
also transfer this agitation to them too.

Use the most relaxing environment you can find.

Try to keep distractions to a minimum. Switch off
your landline telephone and your mobile, and if
you are visiting them in their home ask them to
do the same. Try to avoid interruptions from
personal callers and, again if visiting their home,
ask that they try to arrange for this as well.

If your client wishes to talk with you during the

session, don’t worry; the energy flow will not be
interrupted. And you will probably find that after a few
minutes the need for conversation will subside. In fact

113
it is not unusual for the person to fall soundly asleep
during the treatment.

Now, whilst the giving of Reiki healing can often

be a wonderful and very spiritually enriching process it
can also, at times, become a little boring, tedious and
tiring. If you begin to feel this way don’t worry, it’s
very common (although not very often spoken about
because people think it’s very un-spiritual). Just try to
ensure you adopt a strong physical position so that
your back doesn’t give you jip and then…

…think about your holidays or something.

Quite often, if you are already fairly sensitive, you

may begin to ‘pick up’ - by psychic or intuitive
means - information from the person you are treating.
This occurs due to the interaction of your energy
fields – your auras - and can sometimes lead to a
greater awareness of your client’s condition.

This is, of course, happening to everyone every

day, but most people are not sensitive enough to ‘pick
up’ on it. Your awareness and sensitivity, however,
will have grown because of your attunement and also
by using the Reiki in your everyday life.

Whether you choose to divulge this ‘extra’

information to the person you are treating is entirely
up to you. The only advice we would offer is the
judicious use of your own common sense. If you feel it
would be helpful in some way, then go with that
feeling.

As for passing this information on to any third

party…

Always remember the privacy and confidentiality

of your client comes first, even if it is a child.

114
Understanding illness

Now before we leave this section on Reiki healing

and, in fact, all healing in general, we think it is
extremely important to understand the function of
illness and disease more fully.

You see diseases are not something that you

actually ‘catch’. And illnesses are not something that
just ‘happen’ to you without your consent.

To think that an illness or disease is something

that can creep up on you and take you by surprise is to
overlook the fact that you create your own reality.

That you make what happens happen.

Everything that occurs in your life occurs

because you want it to. Everything. And, of course,
this very much includes illness, disease and bodily
harm too.

As already spoken about earlier we, as God,

decided to experience what it was to be God by
creating ‘life’ in physical form. We decided that it would
be essential to interact with many other parts of
ourselves to bring greater understanding from this
experience. And we also decided that if these
‘experiences’ were to have any impact at all…

…it was imperative for us to ‘forget’ all about the

fact that we were God and that it was us who were
creating them.

To experience everything we wanted to

experience, even being God in adversity, we decided to
allow our bodies to become ill, diseased and damaged.

Yes, we could have created for ourselves the

bodies of super people, who were impervious to harm

115
of any kind. But we decided that this would not have
brought us all the experiences we sought.

So, as with everything else we were creating for

ourselves, we decided that for illness, disease and
bodily harm to have any meaning at all we had to
ensure that we created the illusion that it came from
outside ourselves. We had to forget that it was we
ourselves who were creating it.

Now, are you following this?

We decided to allow illness, disease and bodily

harm (from now on we’re just going to write illness but
it means – illness, disease and bodily harm, okay), to
manifest itself in our ‘physical realm’ - so that we could
have these broader experiences of ‘life’. It is not
something that is inflicted upon us by chance, it is
something that we have decided to experience, and
we do have full control over it.

Every illness then is brought to you, by you. You

don’t ‘catch’ anything at all, for there is nothing to
‘catch’ unless you have agreed to ‘catch’ it.

We know our doctors and scientists have

discovered, and continue to discover, all these
pathogens - germs, viruses and bacteria etc.- which
are, they say, ‘responsible’ for our illnesses. But they
only exist because our scientists needed, and still need,
to discover external reasons for our illnesses.

If our doctors weren’t looking for reasons, these

things wouldn’t have to exist.

Do you follow that?

If we were quite happy that illness just came to

us for our own experience and that it was perfectly
okay - viruses etc. wouldn’t have to exist. But because
our memory loss was initially total and not just partial

116
we have ‘forgotten’ that we want these experiences
and, consequently, resent and fear them coming to us.
(We have always had among us, though, people whose
memory loss was not total, and these people have
always been there to help others remember who they
are, whenever anyone wanted to).

Because (another interesting word, be-cause) we

fear and resent these illnesses we have allowed
doctors and scientists to become a reality. And these
doctors and scientists have to justify their existence by
finding ‘cures’ for our illnesses. To find ‘cures’ they
have had to discover why we get ill.

And here is where it has become very interesting

indeed.

Many of these scientists and doctors chose to look

outside of themselves to find the reasons for illness,
and a very few chose to look within.

Now the ones looking to the outside went looking

with the notion that illness had to be something that
came to us from other external sources. For them the
idea was to find the external source and destroy it. Now
without going into the complete history of allopathic
medicine, we can just accept the fact that they did
indeed begin to find external organisms responsible for
our ill health.

And did begin to devise ways of destroying them.

What is interesting, however, is this. These

organisms did not have to exist until our doctors and
scientists went looking for them. You see, if they had
not been able to find anything on the outside, they
might have been forced to go looking on the inside,
and then the game would have been up.

We would have been forced to remember that it

was actually us who were creating these illnesses.

117
Was this just fortunate or was it the way that we
decided it would be?

Yes, of course…

…it was the way we decided it would be.

So now we have millions of scientists and doctors

who, quite rightly, strictly adhere to their doctrine of
seek and destroy medicine. And those of us who are
slightly more enlightened should applaud this fact,
because they are carrying out the wishes of the
majority and maintaining the illusion for us all.

But small cracks are beginning to develop in this

facade.

With the advent of quantum mechanics a few

more of our scientists are beginning to look within.
And some are discovering that our physical universe is
built on the foundation of thought.

Fortunately, though, most still maintain that this

is ridiculous. Why do we say fortunate? Because that is
exactly the way in which we all want it to be.

There are very many millions of us who are not

yet ready to wake up to this ‘other’ reality.

We, who are becoming more aware, owe them

their ignorance for as long as they require it. It is just
as ‘wrong’ to force these people to accept this ‘other’
reality as it is for them to force others to accept their
version.

You see, to maintain the illusion of us not

creating our own illnesses through our thoughts, we
had to invent the concept of ‘germs’ to be responsible
for all our ill health and diseases.

118
Incidentally, most of our doctors and scientists
still cling to this germ theory even though it was shown
to be in error many years ago.

We desired to experience illness and so we

created and continue to create them. How else would
we be able to experience illness?

Yes, of course they appear real, and that’s

because they are supposed to.

If they didn’t, the illusion wouldn’t work, would

it?

That’s the ‘game’ we are playing. Everything

was/is created through our thoughts. The thoughts we
had when we first created our reality and all the
thoughts we have had since. There are no accidents;
everything is following the pattern it was designed to
follow.

The pattern that was designed by us.

All illness is created by us. Have you got that?

There are no but’s or however’s here; all illness is
created by us. We decided that we would like to
experience illness and so that is what happens.

Nothing, absolutely nothing in the way of illness

comes to us without our consent.

You don’t get ill without a reason. Your reason.

The reasons can be quite simple as in you want to

know what it feels like to be incapacitated or, maybe
you want to prevent yourself from having to do
something you would rather not do. Having a bad back
can get you out of doing many things you have no
intention of doing.

119
And then we come on to somewhat more complex
reasoning.

Why disease and illness will never be

eradicated

If there weren’t any people wanting to

experience being ill, how could others experience being
carers?

Now don’t pass over this too lightly, for in other

words it means…

…if there can be no illness there can be no

doctors. If there was to be no illness there could not be
any health industry, and this industry is very, very
large.

So just give that some thought.

If there are so many people on earth wanting to

experience illness - there has to be an appropriate
number of people wanting to make these people better,
and vice versa. There are, therefore, many, many
people whose way of life has become dependent on
illness.

Now we don’t all carry conscious memories of

why we are here. It has become an almost self-
perpetuating vicious circle. Remember - For one thing
to exist the opposite has to exist also. To experience
wellness – illness has to exist too.

So the top and the bottom of it is this…

Whilst there are people wanting to experience

what it is like to be ill there will always have to be
illness and disease. No amount of drugs, surgery,

120
chemotherapy, alternative medicine or even Reiki will
ever change this. When one miracle drug is discovered
to halt the progress of one disease, another, more drug
resistant, disease will have to spring up to replace it. It
can be no other way until we, as humanity, decide we
have experienced all there is to experience from illness
and disease and no longer require it.

There used to be a popular saying ‘doing the

rounds’ a while ago which was: “You are what you
eat”.

Everyone became familiar with it and some people

continue to use it to this day.

Over the years, however, it has evolved into the

much more accurate, saying of: “You are what you
are capable of absorbing”. And you are probably
equally familiar with this new phrase yourself.

But we think this newer saying has far more depth

and meaning than just the food thing, and that it would
benefit enormously from being looked at in a more
complete way.

You are what you are capable of

absorbing

Look at the saying again: “You are what you are

capable of absorbing.” What does it say to you?

121
Sure, yes, it applies very much indeed, as it
should, to food and your physical body. And in this
regard it simply means - it doesn’t matter what you
put into your mouth and swallow…

…if your body is not able to break this food

down properly and then, equally, not able to absorb
the nutrients released, it won’t be of any use to you at
all. For instance some people don’t produce enough
hydrochloric acid in their stomachs so have difficulty in
breaking down proteins.

The real you is a three part being

But it can also be taken as applying, very much,

to those other two very important parts of yourself -
your mind and soul, too. For you are not just your
physical body, you are also your mind and your soul
or spirit as well.

The phrase can be taken as meaning, therefore,

that – YOU, the real three part you - are what you are
capable of absorbing.

In other words YOU, the synergistic

amalgamation of your body, mind and spirit, are what
you are - consciously - because of what you have
absorbed or ‘taken in’ so far. And also, much more
importantly, you are actually becoming what you are
capable of absorbing or taking in right now.

So, be very careful what you allow into yourself.

Consider everything most cautiously. And by this we
really do mean everything.

From the food and drink you put in your mouth to

the information you put in your head. Consider
everything very carefully indeed. And do so from the
combined perspective of your body, mind and spirit as

122
well. Don’t just ask yourself what you think about it,
ask yourself what you feel about it too. When you are
putting something in - be it food for your body or food
for your mind and spirit - ask the different parts of
yourself for feedback.

They will give it.

Listen very carefully

But you may have to listen very carefully, in the

beginning. Most of your parts will not resort to
shouting.

They may not be loud but they will be undeniably

trying to communicate with you. So respect these parts
of yourself and listen for their response.

Does that piece of information sound right

intellectually, does it feel right? Does it sit right
within you, in your body, or does it make you feel
uncomfortable? Does the information feel
wholesome? Is it uniting all the parts of yourself?

Are you feeling at one with it?

Some people would say to you that if it feels

right, just do it. And this little phrase has received a lot
of popularity. They will tell you not to think about it.

But we would say to you that this is not going to

give you the whole picture. You also have a mind. You
must ask yourself how you think about whatever it is
as well.

Think with your mind feel with your soul. Think

with your head feel with your heart. Allow your mind
to flow and your intuitive side to blossom.

123
Don’t just use logic

Some people, indeed most people, will just try

using logic, and deny what it is they are feeling. But
again this will only provide part of the solution…

Logic is very linear.

They will spend hours and hours, sometimes days,

weeks and even months racking their brains, agonising
over a decision; tying themselves up in intellectual
knots. Getting nowhere. But in their heads they will
consider that they are doing the right thing to sort out
their problems.

But why? Why do people do this?

An over reliance on intellect

Well, our societies have encouraged an over

reliance on intellect and external education.

It has been the consensus belief that our brains

are the most important tools we have. So we have
developed an abundance of schools, colleges and
universities of every description, designed solely for
pumping facts and figures into these brains of ours.

The expansion of our brains, intellects and minds

has become of paramount importance.

Our societies adore intellectual accomplishments.

People with massive intellects are put up on pedestals
and worshipped. It is actively encouraged. Intuition and
feelings are kept firmly in the background and totally
ignored.

124
How about intuition?

How many people do you know who are admired

because they have massive feelings? How many
people do you know who are admired for their
enormous intuition?

Very few - if any at all - we would hazard the

guess.

It is quite sad, isn’t it?

Not least because most, if not all, of our highly

revered inventors and scientists - the ones accredited
with the massive intellects - have usually come upon
their most important findings during moments when
quietly doing something else.

Some whilst asleep or even in the bath – eureka!

Why just intellect?

But why do we say this is sad?

Because it is not the moment of inspiration that

is highly noted and prized, it is the size of the
individual’s intellect.

It is all the ‘brain work’ they have done before

which is so highly regarded.

The sudden flash of intuition, usually the major

contributor to the accomplishment, is just put down as
being a stroke of genius. And the saddest thing of all is
that people don’t even ask where that stroke of genius
came from.

125
Allowing genius in on the act

For us genius comes, as does the word itself, from

another little word – genie - the genie that resides,
mostly unbidden, deep within us all.

It’s that magical, intuitive part of ourselves

which is there for all of us to access. The part of
ourselves that can solve all our problems and - grant
us all our wishes.

We think, and feel, that if more schools actively

encouraged the development of the intuitive side of
children’s make-up in equal measure alongside the
intellectual and logical part - the world would be a
much happier and contented place in which to live.

Use the whole of you

So, get into the habit of using your mind and

your soul in equal partnership, and when you are
comfortable with this try introducing your body into the
equation too, because your body is always talking to
you as well.

How do you listen to your body? By becoming

aware of its language of course.

No, this is not the same as the body language

being popularised by psychologists. Your body speaks
to you, and you alone. It uses the whispering language
of discomfort in the first instance, and then pain if you
can’t be encouraged to listen to the whispers.

Why do you have that feeling of unease deep in

the pit of your stomach? Why have you suddenly
developed an aching back? Why is it you keep stubbing

126
you toe or hurting your fingers? Is your throat sore
because you are not speaking your truth? Are your
eyes giving you trouble because you are refusing to see
what’s so clearly in front of your face?

Body talk

Your body talks to you all the time, just listen.

Why are you having trouble with your wrists or

ankles? Could it be because you are not recognising or
dealing with an issue of guilt or pleasure? Are your
knees hurting because that is where you are continually
stuffing gobbets of unexpressed anger - or maybe
because you just won’t give in. You won’t go down on
bended knees?

Any resistance or tension felt in a particular part

of your body can also be interpreted as a resistance to
something occurring in your life.

For instance, if you really want to say no to a

person or situation then your body, somewhere, will
indicate this to you in the form of tension or resistance.

To check this out, ask yourself blunt direct

questions.

Use direct questions, and then listen

For example if you want to know if the man in

your life is really the one for you ask yourself this
question.

Do you want to sleep with this man, every night,

for the next forty years and clean the toilet after him?

127
Then silently listen to the sensations that fill your
body. It may be just a feeling of nothingness or
emptiness inside you, or it may be that your jaw
becomes a little tense, either way your body is saying
something to you.

The next thing to do is tell yourself very positively

he’s not the one for you and then silently listen again
to what your body says.

It may be an overwhelming feeling of fear that

sweeps around your stomach. Fear of being alone. Fear
of better the devil you know than the one you don’t. It
may be a sense of loss or grief, of losing part of
yourself.

Whatever it is listen, your body never lies,

especially to you.

All parts of your body have messages of

significance to contribute to your overall understanding
of any given issue, and it is a fascinating subject.

One that has inspired numerous people to put pen

to paper. Louise Hay is one of the better-known
authors on this topic. Her book, ‘You Can Heal Your
Life’, would make an excellent starting point from
which to explore these matters in more detail.

Nothing is written in stone

As good as this particular book is however, along

with all the others on the subject, don’t forget this…

The meanings of any illnesses, diseases, or

disorders etc. as expressed in any of the books, are
purely the interpretations drawn by the authors. They
may be solidly based from their own observations

128
and the observations of other eminent ‘experts’, but
they are only that…

Their observations, they may not be your own.

Nothing is written in stone. If you do not feel

and think that the particular interpretation written in a
book is the one that applies to you; then it doesn’t
apply to you. The subtle language of your body is
uniquely your own.

And this applies equally to anything and

everything else occurring in your life too.

If you have a different opinion, a different slant, a

different interpretation on anything that has, will or is
occurring in it, then that is the one which is true for
you.

You are your own expert

If the message you get from your feelings, from

your mind, from your body - or from any particular
experience - is at variance to what other ‘experts’ have
said that they mean…

Then your own interpretation is the valid one.

For you see, the meaning of everything is the

meaning that you give to it.

Read that last sentence again. Don’t let it slip by

too lightly.

The meaning that you give to anything that

happens in your life is the only meaning that counts.
You really are your own expert.

129
Reading other people’s books and listening to
other people’s experiences, on any subject, are just
that…

Other people’s experiences - other people’s

opinions.

They are merely signposts on your path and

should be used as such. They may be very helpful in
guiding you along the general route you wish to take,
but they certainly don’t indicate the only direction
available to you.

And yes, that applies equally, if not more, to this

book as well.

We want you to clearly understand this, and we’ll

keep saying it over and over, in as many different ways
that we can think of…

YOU are the most powerful energy in existence;

you are God. You just have to remember that.

Everything that occurs in your life is a message

to you, from you, and you have designed it this way to
gently wake yourself up to this understanding of who
you really are.

Every Master that you meet, is simply a Master of

their own path to ‘enlightenment’ and, therefore, a
Master of themselves.

They are not a Master of you.

Everything that is happening to you is happening

because you want it to. You make what happens
happen…

absolutely no one and nothing else.

130
A quick recap

There are three very distinct parts of you…

Body, Mind and Spirit.

Incidentally, the word Spirit is interchangeable

with the word Soul, either will do, they both mean the
same thing. These parts of you work better in synergy,
than they do in isolation.

The amalgamation of these parts working

together creates a whole which is much more powerful
than the sum of its parts.

In other words allowing your three parts to work

together, in harmony, will make you much more than
you thought possible. It’s kinda like finding the answer
to a simple adding up sum of 1+1+1 equals 10 instead
of 3.

The synergy of the three parts raises your

vibration to a significantly higher value than normally
expected.

Don’t be one-dimensional

Don’t allow one part of your make-up to

dominate your life.

Listening to what goes on in your Head allows

your Mind to work; listening to what goes on in your
Heart allows your Soul/Spirit to work; listening to what
goes on in your Body allows, surprisingly enough, your
Body to work.

Listening to them all together allows you to work!

131
• Don’t allow society to bully you into
becoming too intellectual. It makes for very
one-sided, one-dimensional people.
• Don’t allow the people of the ‘New-Age’
movement to bully you into becoming too
intuitive. It makes for very one-sided one-
dimensional people.
• Don’t allow your Body to dominate; it makes
for very one-sided, one-dimensional
hypochondriacs!

Become, instead, wholesome - the sum of the

whole.

A wholesome, three-dimensional person in a

three-dimensional world.

Don’t become too caught up in this Master and

Disciple/Student ‘thing’ either. Recognise that Masters
are just Masters of themselves and, maybe, of life.

They are certainly not Masters of you.

You are your own Master

You are your own Master, for thou art God.

If you do come across a Master who is ‘on your

wavelength’ listen to what they have to say. They may
possibly have remembered more than you have, and it
may be helpful.

But don’t abase yourself in their presence and

hang on their every utterance - that’s just giving away
your power and, to be honest, is just plain
embarrassing.

132
Remember the fun

And always, always, remember this…

You have come into physical form to have fun. To

enjoy yourself.

There is nothing you have ‘come to do’. There is

nothing you have ‘come to learn’. Life is not a school
where you come to ‘learn the lessons of life’. You
already ‘know’ all there is to ‘know’ – for…

…you ARE God…

you just have to remember it. But only when

you’re ready.

Which is why, incidentally, when someone says

something to you, or you read something in a book that
you just instinctively ‘know’ to be the truth…

…it is!

You have really just been caused to remember

what you already know/knew, if you know what we
mean.

***

Using prayer

If you have a problem that you feel is beyond

your ability to work out, pass it to God.

Go into prayer with the intention of asking God

for help. But do it in exactly the same way in which you

133
would ask a super computer that knew everything for
help. You wouldn’t prostrate yourself and beg the
computer to supply you with the answer (well only if
you can’t work the damn thing) you would simply input
the data and wait for the response.

And this is exactly how you should pray. Just ask

for the help and know it shall be given.

Don’t beg, don’t beseech, don’t cry and get all

worked up, just go into a quiet space and ask God for
help in the same calm way as you would ask your
computer to supply an answer.

Now please don’t go getting yourself all tied up

with religious type thinking here.

Don’t go conjuring up any images of a vengeful

God punishing you for thinking like this. Remember
God is your friend. He does not want you on your
knees in subservience. He does not want your worship
or prostrations. He just wants to experience life through
the realities of your choosing…

because God is you and you are God.

Hardship & pain?

Why is it that there are so many people playing

out lives of hardship and pain? Why are so many people
coming to Earth to experience so much struggle?

Why indeed, it’s quite mysterious isn’t it?

And the answer lies in the fact that, somewhere

along the line, people have become totally confused.
They have become utterly perplexed with what it is
they originally wished to experience and why it was
they had chosen to experience it.

134
Many, many people hold the belief that coming to
the earth plane is like coming to a school type
environment where you have been given loads of
lessons to learn.

They believe that you have to learn how to be,

for example, good. They have become too caught up in
the ‘programmes’ they are creating. They hold the
unshakeable belief that only by struggling can they
overcome any ‘bad’ traits that they have.

They conveniently forget that they are the ones

that have given themselves the experiential programme
of ‘badness’ in the first place.

Life is not about learning

Now try to understand this…

God has not and will not, indeed cannot, give

you any lessons to learn - for there is nothing to learn.

You really and truly are already God. You

absolutely and categorically do not need to learn how
to be who you already are.

But you see, because you already are God, the

God that you imagine that you are not - will not push
you to become that who you already are. The God that
you are has no problem with you allowing yourself to
delude yourself for as long as you desire the illusion.

Can you understand this?

You are God and also not God for as long as you
choose.

135
This is one of those times where words become
slightly inadequate. Well, actually they become totally
inadequate.

But they are capable of generating the feeling

of…

“Somewhere along the line I know what you’re

trying to say, but I can’t put it into words or explain it”.

And that has to suffice, because that is enough –

for now.

Okay, so maybe that became a little too deep or

maybe it wasn’t deep enough. Sometimes things can be
so simple that they can be overlooked by the intellect.

Perhaps this is one of those times.

A few misunderstandings

• Life, as we have just said, is NOT about learning

anything.

• It is NOT a school. YOU decide on the

experiences you will encounter.

• God does NOT command you to do anything.

• You are NOT given a list of things that you have

‘to do’ by anyone else at all.

• You do NOT have to have a physical life if you do

not want to have one.

• You do NOT have to do anything if you do not

want to.

136
• Life does NOT work on a points scoring system
where all the ‘good’ things you do are totted up
against all the ‘bad’ things you do – there is NO
such thing as ‘good’ and ‘bad’ or ‘right’ and
‘wrong’.

• You do NOT have to work through any ‘Karma’.

Okay, we probably should talk about Karma for a

moment.

Bad Karma

Karma. What does that word conjure up for you?

If you say nothing, that’s just fine. Go straight to

the top of the class and stay there. (Just joking, we
know it’s not a school).

If it conjures up images of wheels of suffering

and having to ‘learn’ your lessons through constant
struggle as you go around on this wheel of life. Then
perhaps you are remembering the purpose of life in a
somewhat misleading manner…

Cos the only purpose of life is the purpose you

give to it.

Still, many, many people have as a - ‘law’ that

has to be obeyed - the Law of Karma. There are quite
a few interpretations of this ‘law’, so we’ll just consider
one version of it.

Okay, so this ‘law’ states that if you do someone a

bad turn in one life, you have to come back in
another life to have that bad thing done to you. So if
you kill someone in one of your lives you will have to

137
come back to the Earth plane and have someone else
kill you. Some people actually say that the person who
you killed has to come back as well to do the actual
killing of you.

This they call ‘Karma’.

You have to work out your Karmic Debt, they say,

and obviously this can take many, many lifetimes to
do. Because every action that you take has the
potential to create an effect on someone else.

Good karma

Now many of the people who abide by the Law of

Karma only seem to do so from the aspect of bad
Karma. They do not consider that by creating good
Karma that they will have to continue on with this
wheel of life.

To others, good Karma has to be worked out too.

They believe – now take a big breath - that if you

do someone a good turn in life then both you and this
other person will have to come back again in another
life so that the person to which you have done the good
turn can give a good turn back to you.

(Phew, that was one heck of a mouthful)!

This then balances the Karmic Debt and you will

become free to leave the wheel of life.

Okay so far? It’s kind of a law of cause and effect.

A sort of, to every action there is an equal and opposite
reaction kind of thing.

So to sum up…

138
And this needs a big breath too…

If you do someone a bad turn, you either have to

come back and have the same bad turn done to you by
anyone else or you have to come back with the same
person you did the bad turn to, and have them do the
same bad turn back to you.

And…

If you do someone a good turn the same thing

happens. You have to come back in another life to
have the good turn returned to you. You have to
balance the books, so to speak.

You have to pay off all the Karmic Debts you have
accrued, whether ‘good’ or ‘bad’.

The errors in Karmic Law

Now have you spotted any discrepancies in these

last few paragraphs on Karmic Law? Especially when
held up against the list of misunderstandings people
hold about life that we looked at earlier.

Yes, you’re right…

The Law of Karma virtually contradicts all eight of

them doesn’t it?

People who believe in Karma are going to have to

believe…

• That someone is keeping a record of

everything that they do.
• And they are also going to have to believe
that, that someone is defining whether the
action was good or bad. (This someone
could just be themselves, of course).

139
• By definition they are going to have to
believe that they are here to learn lessons.
• And by association the Earth will have to be
a school.
• It would sound awfully likely that they would
expect to be given a list of things they have
to work through.
• And that they would not be able to refuse
the task.
• It is also probable that they believe God
would be angry with them if they didn’t
conform.
• Therefore they must believe that they are
compelled to do something about it.

Well, well, well. What do you say to that then?

Pretty scary stuff, if you ask us.

How do you think you would ever be likely to get

off this ‘wheel of life’?

How on earth would you be able to live your

whole life through without ever affecting someone
else for good or bad? Well nigh impossible, we would
think.

You’d have to spend all your time keeping

painfully accurate records of exactly what you have
done and who you have done it to. Decide whether it
was good or bad. Franticly try to keep the books
balanced before you die and hope beyond hope that
you haven’t miscalculated.

Sure looks like a very stressful way to live. Much

better, we think, to say…

“No thank you, that’s not for me”.

You see the law of Cause and Effect or Karma

only works that way, if that is the way you want it to
work. Whenever you are tired of it you can say…

140
“Enough” - and that will be an end to it.

Remember, nothing ever happens to you

without your consent. You make what happens
happen.

You are, ultimately, the only power.

So if you have bought into this belief about Karma

being an endless struggle between right and wrong
action - and you now want to be free of its effects -
change your mind.

Yes, that’s all you have to do.

Just change your mind. Decide that you no

longer want to be a part of this cosmic joke and leave
it to one side.

But won’t God be angry? No you won’t.

Cause & Effect

The law of Cause and Effect will still be there, by

the way, it will not have disappeared. It’s just that the
hold it has over you will now have been diminished. It
will now respond in the way you wanted it to respond
when you first created it.

You will still reap what you sow - you will still get
back what you put out.

In other words, if you float through life being

wonderfully loving you will get increased helpings of
love pouring back to you. If you stump about being
hateful you will get hate, in larger measure, being
flung back at you.

141
That’s the way it works, that’s the way
you/we/God devised it to work.

Why does it come back greater?

Because when we came into physicality we

wanted to have the experience of everything we
created continuing to grow.

Karma should not be a millstone

We didn’t devise the rule of cause and effect to

become a millstone around our necks as in the way
some people now conceive of Karma. We devised it to
be a wonderful aid to help us in our wish to truly
experience who we really are.

We didn’t, initially, decide to take physical form to

struggle or to have hardship and pain. Why ever
would we have wanted to do that?

No, the law of cause and effect was devised

purely to help us experience the joy of becoming more
than who we already are. It’s there to magnify this
magnificence so it sends back to us exactly what we
ask for increased many times.

And it works perfectly.

The problem is that we have got a little way laid

in the ‘what we want to experience’ side of life. We now
seem to do most of our ‘wants’ programming in a most
negative kind of atmosphere. A great many of us now
think that the only way to grow is by having every
experience we create be about struggle, hardship, pain,
doom and gloom.

Some people even think that we are full of sin

and other ‘unholy’ things.

142
Life works the way you want

And that’s one of the greatest and most

marvellous things about life…

You can have it work in any way you want it to.

If you hold the belief that life is all about

hardship and pain then your life will actually be – all
about hardship and pain.

You see, when you leave your body after a ‘life’

on earth - you know - when you ‘die’. You don’t
automatically become fully enlightened about what
is going on. You ‘wake up dead’ - as it were - with the
same mindset, the same way of – thinking - that you
had when you were ‘alive’.

If you are still convinced that ‘life’ is all about

hardship and pain you will probably go on to
programme yourself another ‘life’ of hardship and
pain. You won’t suddenly change all your belief systems
because you are ‘dead’.

Let’s go into this a little more fully.

Belief

If whilst you are alive you hold the belief that life
is all about hardship, pain, and learning lessons, then
when you die you will still believe the same thing.

Yes, you will meet all your ‘dead’ relatives and

loved ones in this ‘afterlife’ as you may expect to do.
And yes they may try to change your mind about the
way things are…

143
But will you believe them?

Just because you have entered a different realm

of existence, does it follow that you will instantly
change your way of thinking and believe everyone you
meet?

It is possible, but is it probable?

There has probably been many times whilst ‘alive’

on earth that other people tried to change the way you
thought. Tried to change your mind on some issue,
tried to persuade you that their way was better than
yours.

How did you react?

Did you blindly accept their viewpoints or did

you hold fast to your own? It won’t be any different in
the afterlife, you know. You will still think and feel
very much the same way as you do now.

Oh sure, you may be a little overawed in the

beginning, but that will soon wear off.

It won’t take long until you are back to your

normal self. If you were strong minded and
opinionated in ‘life’ you will be the same in ‘death’.

If you were quick to make up your mind about

things and it wasn’t easy to change it in ‘life’ it won’t be
easy to change it in ‘death’ either. Free will and
choice are still, very much, the order of the day.

So if you decide, quite quickly, that you wish to

return to the earth plane to have another life
experience, and you are still convinced that it has to
be a struggling life so that you can learn more. Then
that is the type of life you will programme for.

Now try to understand this…

144
When you ‘die’ - there won’t be a whole lot of
difference between the you of now and the you of
then.

You will still have all the same thoughts and

feelings you have now. You will still have all the same
beliefs and prejudices etc. They don’t just change as if
by magic.

How could they?

If they did it would be taking away your power

and free will to be you, and that will never happen.

You are free to be as big a dipstick in the afterlife

as you were in life - if that is what you choose. ‘Death’
will not ‘enlighten’ you.

Enlightenment is all about remembering that

you are God and that you have chosen to experience
the beauty of this state in physical form. This memory
is held in your super conscious mind, as…

…Whoa there, just hold it right there. Wait just a

minute - the super conscious mind - where does this fit
in? We haven’t spoken about any super conscious mind,
now have we?

No we haven’t so we better do so now…

The super conscious mind

The super conscious mind is also known as the

higher self. It is the part of you that holds the
complete picture of everything. All the feelings and
memories of all the realities you have created and all
the experiences you have had. It goes beyond the

145
subconscious mind in this regard because it holds all
the knowledge of the ‘all of it’.

In the realities that you are presently

experiencing it is the part of you, which is God. Now
we realise that, again, many people will take issue with
this statement, and again, that is fine.

Becoming one

You see, not many people are able to wholly

accept themselves as being God yet and because of this
they do not really understand what oneness really is.

Sure they have heard of the term and it sounds

really cool to talk about it as if one really understands
it. But in truth their understanding is only partial and it
is only natural that they might want to cling to the
belief that their higher selves are totally separate
entities.

For when people really begin to look at the issue

of oneness for the first time - they imagine the
process in a way that results in them becoming totally
absorbed into something else and disappearing
completely. They imagine that they themselves will be
overwhelmed and their identities utterly lost.

And this is very scary; they might just as well be

dead.

How do you imagine the process of oneness

taking place? Have you given it any thought yet?
Everyone has heard of the term, how would you like it
to be realised? If you haven’t given it much thought,
try it now. Ask yourself this: When we have all come
together and there is just one of us, will I have
disappeared?

146
Well, what did you come up with?

Where you still there? If you were, where had all

the other people gone? Had they absorbed you or had
you absorbed them? Where you on your own? How did
you feel about this?

Most people fear the thought of being left on their

own more than they do anything else. They don’t like
the silence. They cannot bear the loneliness. They
cannot be alone.

Being alone

But please look at these words alone and

loneliness more carefully…

Alone actually means all-one. Loneliness means

all-one-ly-ness. So you see, you cannot ever be alone
in the sense of being without others, because when
you are truly alone you are actually with all others,
you are all-one!

Neat huh!

You can never, ever be left on your own again.

Isn’t that a wonderful understanding? One of our
greatest fears totally removed. You will never be, you
cannot ever be, left on your own.

You are still free to choose to imagine that you

are separate, whilst you are here on the earth plane, of
course. You are still free to choose to be by yourself,
but now you know that it is a matter of choice, and it
is a matter of temporary illusion.

147
Oneness

But what about the fear of losing yourself when

we all become one again?

It doesn’t happen.

You become a part of the whole, yes, but you still

retain your own identity.

It is almost impossible to appreciate this concept

by reading through these words. Needless to say, that
to fully understand it you have to experience it for
yourself.

Of course, some people do get a flavor of this

understanding during meditation or perhaps a Satori - a
brief moment of enlightened thought - and then there
are the ones who just pretend that they understand it.

The experience of oneness

But many of us can get a flavor of this

understanding when we experience a time when we
fully cooperate with others, not because we have to
but because we want to.

It comes at a time when we are working on a task

with others and everyone just seems to gel together.

There is no apparent leader; there is no friction

between anyone. All ideas seem to spring forward
from everyone’s mind at the same moment, and all
are happy to carry them out. This does not happen very
often, as you can imagine, but when it does, you
never forget it…

148
…And this is what it is like when oneness is
accomplished.

You are still there as an individual but you are

also an indivisible part of the whole. Everything that
happens is a spontaneous and joyful expression of
this whole - which occurs with your complete blessing
and agreement - as if it was just you who were making
all of the decisions.

Which, of course, is actually what is happening.

It is not easy to appreciate this way of being

without experiencing it first hand, as we have said.

People are only able to see things from their

present level of experience, which is via the
perspectives existing within them right now.

It is difficult to imagine being able to work in

constant harmony with others without making
reference to the way we think and feel today. This
makes us see the eventual outcome of working closely
with others, indeed any other, as eventually resulting
in some kind of friction, or ill will developing between
you.

But it is also possible to get glimpses of this

possibility through the process of…

Unconditional love

And we are not talking here about the sickly

sweet huggy-huggy, kissy-kissy, loving everyone no
matter what they do to me way of being. As presently
adopted by some of the more ‘spiritual’ groups of
people knocking about at the moment.

149
We are talking about the genuine ability to love
others without setting any pre-conditions necessary
for the other to comply with before giving that love.

Yes, we know that some of the behaviour of the

lovey-dovey crowd is quite genuine, of course it is. But
much of it is not.

Many act like this simply because they see others

doing it, and think that this must be the way you have
to behave, in order to show their level of spiritual
‘advancement’.

Yuk, it’s so sickeningly false it makes you want to

cringe.

And we have met many, many people who act in

this way. On the outside they profess and pretend to
be all love and light.

They say that it really doesn’t matter what other

people say or do to them - they will just love them
regardless. And on the inside they are suppressing
and repressing such levels of anger, hatred and
violence, it is truly frightening to behold.

Remember this

You see, what these people are tending to

completely overlook when attempting this laudable
aim of unconditional love is this…

Unconditional love is not just a one-way,

outpouring expression.

You cannot truly experience unconditional love for

another, any other, if you cannot express
unconditional love for yourself first. You have to
remember, you have to be able, to love yourself

150
unconditionally first - before you can do so with
others.

Now please do not think that this is being

selfish…

as in the - being deficient in consideration for

others - type meaning. Which is the presently accepted
use of the term selfish. What it means is that you are
being true to yourself. And fully understanding that it
is impossible to give to another what you don’t
already have for yourself.
