MONEY

MANAGEMENT
This management approach can be used at the
end of the year to help with those wiggly
bodies and “summer fever”.
Supplies:
* School money
* Ziplock baggies {wallet baggie}
* Ziplock labels
* Parent Volunteer Letter
PROCEDURE:
This management system teaches your students
about goods and services. You will use the
money as a rewards system in your class for
the last few weeks of school. Whenever a
student does a great job they get paid by the
teacher. If they help a friend pick up their
crayons, they can earn money. You decide on
how much each task is work and pay students
for good behavior. Then, if a student does
something against the rules, take the coins
away. I usually never do this sort of behavior
management {taking away things they’ve
earned}, but at the end of the year, it works
well. The students are introduced to the
Money Management by telling them that at the
end of the school year we will be having a class
store. There will be face painters, candy, toys,
manicures, games, etc {provided by the parent
volunteers}. They need to collect money from
their teacher by following school and classroom
rules. Once we are ready for our party, they
can chose a “good or service” to buy with their
money. The students will keep their money in
their ziplock bag {wallet baggie} inside of their
desk. If a coin is found on the floor, it is
always returned to the teacher. It’s very
important to be responsible for your wallet
baggie. Money can only be given by the teacher
{I don’t let my kiddos give money to one
another} and all the students will be honest
and not take others’ money.
You can decide how you want to pay your
students. I have my students earn pennies and
then on Friday’s, they can trade in their
pennies for nickels, dimes, and eventually
quarters.
