Great Guinea Pigs

A NEW PET
• Guinea pigs are great pets that you could
cuddle and play with. You can get guinea
pigs at a pet store. Some times guinea
pigs are in animal shelters, so you can
have a new pet to love!
GUINEA PIG CARE
• Guinea pigs need a cage and bedding.
Some people have big cages outside.
Guinea pigs eat veggies like lettuce and
carrots. Guinea pig food looks like pellets.
When a guinea pig should have its nails
cut when they are at least one year old.
Long hair guinea pigs need to be brushed
every day.
IN THE WILD
• Guinea pigs in the wild live in groups.
They can live in forests, fields and
mountains. Guinea pigs in the wild were
hunted for years. They are still hunted in
Bolivia.
BODY
• Guinea pigs grow up to be 14 inches long.
They have 2 large front teeth called
incisors for gnawing. Guinea pigs can not
produce vitamin C, So you should give
Guinea pig a lot of vitamin C. Guinea pigs
are not really pigs, they are in group of
rodents called cavies.
BREEDS
• Being popular is fun, the most popular
breeds are the American short haired and
the abyssinian. There are a lot of Guinea
pigs breeds to choose from!
DID YOU KNOW!
• Did you know in some countries guinea
pigs are show animals! Did you know that
guinea pigs have a language, if a guinea
pig chatters its teeth its mad, squeals
mean hurting, hungry or wants attention.
