The brain is made up of three parts: the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brain

stem. The cerebrum is involved with memory, thinking, problem solving,

feeling, and movement. The cerebellum controls coordination and balance; it

is located in the back of your skull underneath the cerebrum. The brainstem,

located underneath the cerebellum, connects the brain to the spinal cord. It

controls breathing, heart rate, digestion, and blood pressure. The brain is also

made up of “ridges and valleys” called the sulci and gyri, respectively. The

longitudinal fissure separates the right and left hemispheres of the brain. The

brain is also broken up into four lobes: the parietal, occipital, temporal, and

frontal.

The spinal cord is the information highway of the body.
