PTCL has plenty of in build strengths. A brief overview is as under:

The company is run by a body of highly professionals who have dedicated, in depth knowledge and experience in the fields of Engineering, Accounts and Administration. The PTCL it has established Training & Research institutes equipment with latest know how .The Company is enhancing the knowledge pool by acquiring professionally skilled personnel. PTCL is promoting professionalism within various companies slots. 13.1.2 Finance The PTCL enjoys a strong financial position, which is the biggest source of confidence for existing and prospective potential investors and lenders. The second most important factor which is also a source of contentment is the increasing trend in the profitability.
13.1.3 Technological

The company has embraced upon a comprehensive program for modernization of networks for the improved service quality. In near future this will become a competitive edge for the company.
13.1.4 Long

Time Monopoly &Experience in the Field

PTCL has enjoyed monopoly in the field of telecommunication and has a vast experience in this field as such the organization as a whole is well aware of the needs and wants of different types of Telecom customers. In the years to come this will be plus point for the companys efforts to retain its market share.

13.2 Opportunities
PTCL is a well established organization having a huge network in almost every part of the country it can offer all types of telecom services anywhere in this country without any remarkable additional investment. No other is likely to enjoy this position. The company has promising opportunities ahead however the following are considered to the most important one. 13.2.1 Future Commerce The future commerce is supposed to be ideal stage of Internet activity. The business is likely to be conducted through computer Nets. The company is well in a position to provide necessary infrastructure base for the Ecommerce operations. Thus company has better opportunities in future.. 13.2.2 Globalization. Externally the company can become an important medium for globalization of the society by bringing different nations together. In This Company has a major role to play.

13.3 Threats
Todays Environment has not opportunities but is likely to effect the existing position of the company even more adversely. The tomorrow carries the following major threats for the company.

13.3.1 Competition.
PTCL has long enjoyed Monopoly and is now likely to be faced with teething competition from various service providers. This is likely to push the company into the more uncomfortable position

13.3.2 Deregulation.
The Company has enjoyed umbrellas of government protection post monopoly it has to face several types of regulations from whom the company was exempt previously.

13.3.3 Customers Confidence.

Every business derives its strength from out of confidence and the trust of the customer it wins. Unfortunately the Customer has no good experience with the PTCLs Services as a Public entity. This feeling is most likely to hurt the companys Position in years to come.

Weaknesses

13.4.1 Overstaffing
The company has certain weaknesses, which are usually inherent in every Public sector corporations/Companies. The company is heavily overstaffed with approximately 55000 employees. The arrangement has inherent inefficiencies. Further the over sizing problem is badly effecting the very profitability of the organization. The situation now turns out to be explosive.

13.4.2 Lack of Marketing Zeal.

The company is totally ignorant of its responsibilities in this behalf. No notable has so far been made to assess the marketability of its services. Instead casual behavior is being exhibited at almost all levels of management. Apart from the above listed facts PTCL is currently faced with critical situation. It has a large structure and as such its working is hijacked by overly formalization, which has often resulted into usual red tapism and inefficiencies. Being a public entity a large number of constraints are placed on day-to-day operations and corporate business. Yet another factor is Privation. Over and above this the company has to comply with the regulatory framework of the Telecomm Authority PTA. During the course of study the following shortfalls have been discovered in different departments of PTCL, which need prompt removal and healthy improvements. This can reduce inefficiencies.
