POSSESSION

1. Possessive Adjectives shows possession. There are SEVEN (7) of them. They are:My, your, its, our, his, her, their Example This is my book. That is your bicycle.

Usually you use my, your, his, her, its, our, their before nouns to say who owns something.They cannot be used to replace nouns. 2. Possessive Pronouns shows possession. There are SIX (6) of them. They are:Mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs Example That pencil belongs to Daniel. That is his. This pink bag is yours. The yellow one is mine.

You use a possessive pronoun in place of a possessive adjective +noun. Thus, there are NO NOUNS after a possessive pronoun. 3. Possessive Nouns shows possession. 3.1 They use the apostrophe s ( s) in TWO (2) ways and they are used with animals and people only. 3.1.1 First, the apostrophe s ( ending in s . Example The cat s tail is long (common noun) Adam s pencil is sharp (Proper noun) The men s shirts are blue. (irregular plural)

Second, the apostrophe s (s ) is used for plural nouns that end in s . The boys shirts are white. Those are the elephants trunks.
