GREETINGS FROM THE CHAPTER REGENT

Greetings to the Daughters of St. LouisJefferson Chapter! I am honored to be your new Chapter Regent. Our Annual Meeting this past May was very special. In addition to hosting Missouri State Regent, Donna Nash, myself and twelve other ladies, were sworn in as your new Executive Officers for the next two years. I am proud to be able to serve with these wonderful women. As we look forward to our opening meeting in the fall, I am hoping to see many of you at the Museum of Transportation located on Barrett Station Road in Kirkwood on Monday, September 19th at 11:00AM. A wonderful lunch has been planned after which we will be taken on a private tour. This is a unique opportunity to learn more about our community and enjoy one anothers company. DAR is a service organization and is a great way to serve your community and promote patriotism. So, get involved with our chapter! We have many committees that are looking for new members and fresh ideas. Most of the significant work of the DAR is done through our committees. Whats your passion? Do you like history? Are old buildings your thing? Are you great at designing websites? Enthusiasm is the only requirement! So put your zeal and energy to work and have fun in the process! I would love to see everyone on a committee of some kind; the more we are involved, the more we learn (and the lighter the work). Please contact me at mbstrelinger@gmail.com or 314-918-8202 if you would like to volunteer for one of our many committees! I am looking forward to the next two years and getting to know the daughters who have made St. Louis-Jefferson the outstanding chapter it is. In DAR Friendship, Peggy Strelinger Chapter Regent St. Louis-Jefferson Chapter

CONGRATULATIONS, LOIS STITCH!

Congratulations to Lois Stitch who was selected as the Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution Patriot of the Month for May 2011. Lois graduated from nursing school in 1951 and enlisted in the United Starts Air Force shortly after. After Officer Indoctrination School, she was sent to Bangor Maine and eventually ended up in Anchorage, AK, where she met and married her husband, Morton. By October 1953, Lois and Morton had both been discharged and they were in Long Island, NY, having their first child. They had four children while in New York and in 1961, Morton accepted a position with McDonnell Aircraft and they moved to St. Louis. Lois is one of the many women that have paved the way for women in the military today. She is a patriot we can take pride in.

WOMAN OF AMERICAN HISTORY 2011

Nominations are being accepted for remarkable women, past and present, in American History. Eligibility for someone to receive this honor: A woman who has made a contribution or a difference in the community. She can be a historical entity or currently alive and worthy of recognition. Women who have been or are intellectual, educational, social, religious, political , scientific or cultural innovators. Please give your nominations to Chapter Historian, Gail Grich

PATRIOTS PATH MEMORIAL MARKER DEDICATION

It was a rainy day, but that didnt stop our adventurous and determined chapter members from braving the wet weather to dedicate the most recent addition to our Patriots Path in Millennium Park. This years marker is dedicated to those who served in the Mexican War. The Mexican-American War occurred as the result of Mexican resentment over the US annexation of Texas and ended with Mexico being forced to cede its northern and western provinces.

REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11th
What are your memories of the morning of September 11, 2001? This chapter year we will be commemorating the tragic events that happened on that day ten years ago. At the beginning of each chapter meeting, we will set aside time for remembrance and ask that anyone who has memories, experiences or thoughts about that day, to share and participate in this moment. There will be one remembrance each month and should be two minutes or less in length. Please contact Peggy Strelinger 918-8202 or Millie Simon 439-9141 to participate in the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

On behalf of the St. LouisJefferson Chapter, I wish to acknowledge the generous gift of the 9/11 Banner given to the chapter by Lois Stich. The 9/11 Banner will be used in the opening ceremony of the monthly chapter meetings and at commemorative events during the year. Thank you, Lois. The chapter is grateful for you and your continued commitment to DAR. Peggy Strelinger Chapter Regent
