Asdiscussedintheintroductionofthisbook,depth enhancementisobtainedinthesamemannerasdepthis conveyedinapainting.Objectswewanttheviewerto perceiveascloser,arelarger,andobjectsmoredistantare smaller. Thissculptureisdepthenhancedandhasthreeleafand flowersizes.Theleavesweremadeusingtheincremental squarestechniquecoveredinchapter1.Inumbertheleaves accordingtosize,thesmallestleaveshavelittleones writtenontheirreversesides.Eachofthelargesthavea threeontheirreverseside.

Icut,paintedandfoldedasetofsixflowersin threesizesand48leavesinthreesizes. Irolled,molded,driedandassembledasetofmakigamistemsto accommodatemysculpture.Ialsomadetwocoilsfor branchlets. Ihave16leavespersize,whichwillbeassembledinpairs, thereforeIneedeightbranchletspersize.Iattachthefirst setofeightbranchletsclosesttotheworksurface.This correspondstothesmallestsizeleaf(size1). Itypicallykeeponepairofleavesineachsizeasareserve(in caseofpaintingmistakes,etc.),thereforeIwillonlyuse sevenbranchletsineachsize.

Ipaintandpreparethebranchinaccordancewiththe instructionsattheendofchapter9,andthenproceed withfinalassembly. Iassemblethesmallestleavesfirst.Theseleavesareattached tothebranchletsclosesttotheworksurface. AndthenIattachthesecondleafsizetothe branchlets.

Andfinallythethirdsize.Noticehowthesculpturehas seemedtocomealive.

Iperformthefinalassembly,attachingthe smallestflowersclosesttothework surface,secondsizeflowersfurther,and thethirdsizedflowerfurthestfromthe worksurface.Ithenapplyafinalcoatof paintandglueinaccordancewiththe instructionsinchapter9. Noticethateventhoughthisisafairly simplesculpture,ithasobtainedavisual complexityduetoitsdepthenhancement.
