FAMILY NURSING PROBLEMS


1. Inability to recognize the presence of malnourishment in a dependent family member due to lack of awareness. 2. Inability to take proper action due to failure to comprehend the nature, magnitude, and scope of the problem. 3. Inability to provide inadequate nursing care to the member of the family who suffers from malnourishment. a. lack of knowledge regarding health conditions. b. lack of awareness regarding the urgency or salience of the problem. c. Inadequate financial resources to sustain health and development

GOAL OF CARE
After nursing intervention, the families nutritional condition, especially their 1 year old daughter is expected to improve after six months.

OBJECTIVES OF CARE
After nursing intervention, the family will: a. Be able to avail of food supplements provided by the health center and other related agencies to prevent malnourishment. b. To be able to plan and prepare balance meals for the family members within a specified budget or allowance. c. Be able to improve the quantity and quality of foods serve in the family members. d. Increase the overall health status of the family members.

INTERVENTION MEASURES
1.Discuss: a. The implications of the signs and symptoms of malnourishment observed in the family members. b. The consequences of malnourishment. 2. Discuss with the family regarding food selection and management as well as the preparation and eating habits of the family. 3. Give some health teachings with focus on basic nutrition and proper handling of foods. 4. Teach or give suggestions to the family regarding better ways of budgeting family income.

METHOD OF NURSE-FAMILY CONTACT


Home Visit

RESOURCES REQUIRED
Material resources: Visual aids, example of food stuffs for demonstrating, preparation of low cost menus, supplies and equipment for cooking demonstration. Quality time and effort of the nurse and family members especially the mother. Expenses for teaching aids and transportation expense of the nurse.
