Evangelist toddler stirs up mixed strong reactions with preaching

A

A four-year-old preacher has whipped up a stormy response from millions of observers on YouTube.

Dubbed the pint-sized preacher, Kanon Tipton first banged the Bible from the pulpit of his family's Pentecostal church in Mississippi aged just 21 months and his dramatic delivery his inspired and repulsed viewers across the world ahead of a television profile of the young evangelist. Interviewed alongside his parents Damon and Kandi this week for a US news programme, Kanon told how family influence inspired him on the religious stage. "I like to stand up there, I see my daddy preach all the time," he said, referring to his father, who is also a preacher. Father Damon said: "I believe it's a phenomenon. I feel like the hand of God is on him in a very special way but he is the third generation of preachers so it's in his blood."

Church attendance often spikes after some major disaster. After 9/11 churches in America saw a dramatic rise. Why do people gravitate to the church when disaster or crisis happens? During those times people are looking for answers to critical life questions that neither science, education, or politicians can give. Questions like: - What is the meaning of my life? - What happens to me after I die? - Why does evil exist in this world? - Is there a solution to evil? - How can I find peace and hope? The Holy Bible, and the churches that choose to teach it faithfully, have the answers to these questions and more. Furthermore, according to Scriptures, engraved in our DNA is the very image of God. Therefore, we will have a proclivity (bias, tendency) to return back to God when life doesnt seem to make sense since Hes the One we see as the all-knowing, all-powerful, and loving God who created us. Thus, the church offers answers and a way to reconnect with God. In addition, its a place of community where you will find people who will genuinely care for you and help you reach your fullest potential in Christ. Its also a place where you can serve alongside others to make this community and world a better place for everyone. If any of this resonates with youwhy not come to Huron Park Baptist Church for a few Sundays and see if this is a church for you?

Ever since I was young I have always wanted to be a missionary, I think it was because life seemed more exciting to live out in the jungle surrounded by exotic animals. As I got older and began looking into other career options I always came back to missionary. I still had a very skewed idea of what a missionary was but I knew that I wouldn't be happy doing anything else. Enrolling in New Tribes Bible Institute only made sense because their program was completely focussed on missions ( and the other school I looked into I would have to wear skirts all the time!). My two years at Bible school changed my life and how I viewed missions. more convinced that there was no other occupation out there for me! I have one more year at the New Tribes Mission training centre in Durham and after that I am planning on heading to South America. I'm excited to be able to serve the Lord with my life, to watch and see the amazing things He is going to do.

Christian Hope and the UK Riots

London-based blogger Adrian Warnock shares his perspective on the troubling events in the UK.

We have seen inner-city riots before. As these events began they initially seemed to be following a similar pattern. The trigger was a fatal shooting by police during an arrest. To understand why such an event could trigger a riot, it is important to understand two things. First, in the UK regular police do not carry guns, and as a result deaths by police shooting is very uncommon here. Such deaths by their unusual nature often make the national news. Second, the death happened in Tottenham, an area of London in which many youths feel angry with the police. A peaceful vigil outside the local police station then triggered a violent reaction and rioting. The first night of riots was localized in Tottenham but rather extreme in its nature. The devastation the like of which some are saying has not been seen since World War IIhas shocked the nation. But the events since then have angered and upset us even more. In an unprecedented manner disorder spread the following day, initially to nearby Enfield, where the church I attend is based, then to other parts of London and to other cities in the nation. The disturbances have tended to be caused by groups of 20 to 200 youths rather than mass mobs, making policing more challenging. There appears to be no political or racial motivation; instead, wanton looting has been the characteristic. Shops are broken into, robbed, and in some cases burnt to the ground. In many cases shop owners will have seen their livelihoods built up over decades disappear. Different Hope How are Christians responding? There is a strong call to prayer. But as Oliver Cromwell used to say to his troops, we must trust in God and keep our gunpowder dry. Many have been reaching out to offer help with clear-up operations. This is also a time to reach out with compassion to neighbors who may be very worried at this time. It is also an opportunity to reach out to local officials and for communities to rally together. Our nation has sought to marginalize the church. In these troubled days, doors are opening up for the

gospel in word and deed, and there is a renewed openness for the voice of the church to be heard. In addition to obviously praying for peace, please pray that many churches will use the increased openness we are seeing to forge healthy relationships with local government and to care for those around us. Many people are feeling shaken by the way a tiny minority of people are behaving in our usually peaceful nation. The difference Christian hope makes at a time like this is palpable. May many reach out to God at this time and that Christians will rightly represent Jesus to our nation. The second Break free and relax took place 28 August at 24 Light Street, Woodstock. A report about this event will appear in the next issue of Seniors Moments.

On Sunday August 21st. was our fourth annual Family Day at Southside Park. It was a strange day with clouds and a few drops of rain. But with prayer, the show went on. We must always remember that God is in is in control. It was a real family day with games for the children, horse drawn wagon rides and free food. People were very grateful for the fun day they had.

FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY In Florida , an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days. The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case dismissed!" The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honour, How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays.." The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant." The lawyer said, "Your Honour, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists..." The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned."

New Hope Family Ministries has seen one God story after another since we began about a year and a half ago. We have seen people open their hearts and purse strings as they have given generously to see this ministry take root at 24 Light Street, which is the Youth For Christ Building. On Thursday mornings we have Art Expression. This is a great place to come and try your hand at oil painting. We have people of all ages from the great grandmothers to the young children. Last week as we were trying our hand at painting a seascape a little guy of 6 years old was telling his grandma how beautiful her painting was. She was being kind and tried to convince him that maybe the instructors painting was better but that she was going to practice. His answer to her was, Oh its ok gram but yours is the best one! Right after they left for the day I was cleaning up the room only to find finger prints in bright blue on the wall just about the height of a 6 year old boy. What are the chances he was doing some fancy painting of his own during the conversation?

I have included a picture that we have painted at our art classes. Please pray for us, as God is bringing in many women and men who are searching for how to get out of the mess they are in and into a healthy family. Thats why God has put us in this building, so we can have programs, lots of fun and a way to help. Keep looking up. Jesus Christ will come in the air. Linda Jacklin

He finds the perfect gift to revive the fading flame in her heart. These are easy -to-read straight forward stories written with warmth, depth and emotion and will be a delight for all ages. Prayers Answered-Len Reimer had surgery in London last week with which was very dangerous. It was sucessful and he will be home next week. Bill Elliot- on the mend and will be going to Parkhill for more therapy. Keep Michele Boctor's Mom in prayer as she starts stage 4 cancer treatment.
