2SO2(g) + O2(g) 2SO3(g)

When

the pressure increase, there will be more molecules per given volume. The probability of collision between the reactants molecules(SO2 and O2) will increase. Thus, the effective collision between the molecules will also increase. Therefore, rate of reaction will increase. More SO3 will be produced.

The

lower the temperature you use, the slower the reaction becomes. A manufacturer is trying to produce as much sulphur trioxide as possible per day. It makes no sense to try to achieve an equilibrium mixture which contains a very high proportion of sulphur trioxide if it takes several years for the reaction to reach that equilibrium. You need the gases to reach equilibrium within the very short time that they will be in contact with the catalyst in the reactor.

Contact

process uses Vanadium(V) oxide as

a catalyst to increase its rate of reaction. A catalyst will give an alternative route with lower activation energy. Then, more reactants molecules will overcome the activation energy. So, the effective collision will increase, increase the rate of reaction.

INFLUENCE ON REACTION
Pressure Forward reaction involves reduction in the number of molecules of gas. Forward reaction is exothermic: Lower temperature will increase the yield but decrease the rate. Increase the rate of reaction.

CONDITION USED
2 atm (this give a very high yield so still higher pressure is not needed 450C
