(The study of using self-help groups in developing personal skills in diabetes patients)
Abstract Diabetes is becoming an important problem in Thailand. The objective of this study was to identify outcomes Theory. Thirty-nine newly diagnosed by using group learning process based on the Orem's Self Care ~ e h a v i d r diabetes patients were sampled. We divided 39 subjects in 4 groups, 8 - 12 patients per group. Facilitators joined in 6 periods of group learning program. The learning topics consisted of diabetes knowledge, changing nutrition behaviors and exercise including proper foot care of the 39 participants 87% completed all program. 82% of total subjects achieved blood glucose, less than 130 mg.dL. Voluntary cooperation, social relationship, and empowerment were key success factors in this studj;.

The benefits of this study were to prevent in diabetes patients and to reduce costs of treatments. In addition, diabetic patients can discuss and exchange appropriate ways for self care.
