Dear

Ke6ic,-

Alternative Business Models - City of Edinburgh Council I refer to your letter dated 22 August 2011 regarding the Alternative Business Model (ABM) Project currently being undertaken by the Council. I fear you have fallen into the trap of equating ABM with "Privatising" services. This is not the case. We are investigating improving our internal services in the process of defining our Public Sector Comparator. At the same time, we are in detailed negotiation with bidders on how, in partnership with the Council, they might be able to deliver high quality services more efficiently and effectively. There has been consultation with and the involvement of the Unions from the beginning of the process. We know from our consultation and surveys of residents that they want high quality services but are less concerned about who delivers these services to them. Ongoing consultation via MaRl facilitated focus groups and engagements through schools and Neighbourhood Partnerships will help to ensure that the views of residents and service users are reflected throughout the process. Yours sincerely
