 METHANE
 Carbon is the main source of carbonic compounds. Mostly the
compounds are made up of carbon & hydrogen. First & simplest
hydrocarbon is methane (CH4).

propane, butane. These members have
2,3,4 atoms of carbonic.
 AS A NATURAL GAS
 Methane is available in nature in
different states. Methane is main part
of natural gas. It is available in marshy
places. It is available in mines.
 PREPARATION OF METHANE
 In the laboratory methane is papered on heating
sodium acetate & sodium hydroxide by taking
these in equal quantities.

 This is odourless, colorless.
 It is lighter than air.
 It is not poisonous.
 It is insoluble in water.

1. It is used as fuel for domestic purposes.
2. It is also used in driving the cars, buses,&
auto Rickshaw.
3. It is also used in lightening.
4. It is used for making carbon black.
