I would like to take the opportunity through this Advice to describe some important points related to the nal examination for this course in the Term 2, 2011. The nal examination is a closed book examination and is worth 60 marks and comprises three (3) parts. Part A (30 marks) has 30 ll-in-the-blank questions. Each correct answer is worth 1.5 marks. If you correctly answer 20 out of 30 questions, you will get 30 marks (1.5 x 20 = 30). This part contains a collection of miscellaneous knowledge from the prescribed textbook. In the examination paper you will be given a table of 36 options. To answer all questions in this part, you only need to choose the correct options from the table. Remember that each option should be used only once. Your answers must be written in the Examination Answer Booklet provided. Any answers written on the examination paper will NOT be marked. Part B (10 marks) contains 5 short answer questions that are related to Local Area Networks (LANs) in Chapter 6 of the prescribed textbook, such as reasons of using a local area network, dierences between the two categories of LANs, components of LANs, the basic geometric layout of the network, improving LANs performance, etc.. Each question is worth 2 marks. You should attempt all questions in this part and your answer should be in short and concisely, or point form. Part C (20 marks) contains 4 detailed process questions that are related to Network Design and Management in Chapters 12 and 13 of the prescribed textbook, such as network design process, important elements that contribute to the performance of a network, performance and fault management, cost management, etc.. Each question is worth 5 marks. You should attempt all questions in this part and your answer should be in detail and thoroughly. Every eort has been made to ensure that there is no mistakes in the nal examination paper but if you think that there is a mistake in any of the questions in the nal examination paper, please write down your comments where you think that there is a mistake. If you are correct then your answer to the question will be marked accordingly. I hope this Advice helps you to focus sharply on your examination preparation and wish you all the best in your study and the nal examination.
