    SOLAR ENERGY Most of the suns energy passes through the earths athmosphere and is absorbed by and warms

    the earths surface.

    Infra-red radiationSome of that energy is reflected back into space off the atmosphere. Some is re-radiated as infrared(IR) energy from the earth surface back into the atmosphere.

    Gas LayerSome of that re-radiated IR energy is reflected back down to the earths surface by the layer of greenhouse gasses and causes further warming of the surface.
