    Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was an Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, and poet born in 1475 in Florence, Italy. He apprenticed under painter Domenico Ghirlandaio and went on to become one of the most influential artists of the Italian Renaissance, known for his sculptures including the Pieta and David and famous frescoes in the Sistine Chapel ceiling and The Last Judgment. He worked primarily in marble and fresco/oil paints and produced works with Renaissance characteristics that often depicted serious, older nude figures.
