Employment Opportunity Assistant Lifeguard/Swimming Instructor

The City of Iqaluit Recreation Department is looking for enthusiastic Assistant Lifeguard/Swimming Instructor to work at the Iqaluit Swimming Pool. This position entails assisting senior pool staff with safety & supervision of patrons using the pool facility as well as assisting with teaching the Red Cross swimming lesson program to participants of all ages. Time commitment involves working shifts on evenings and week-ends for approximately 10-15 hours per week. Duties and Responsibilities: Able to work evenings and week-ends. Carry out public relations duties and interact with patrons in a professional manner. Ensure safety of pool patrons by enforcing rules and preventing accidents. Assist lifeguards in emergency situations with performing first aid and rescues. Assist swimming instructors with teaching Red Cross swimming lessons. Perform and log water tests. Complete daily pool reports and forms. Perform cashier duties. Perform daily cleaning and maintenance duties. Attend staff training sessions. Be a positive role model for children and lead by example. Required Qualifications: Minimum 16 years of age Current First Aid & CPR certification Current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross Current Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructor certification Preferred Education, Skills and Knowledge: Experience working with children in a recreational setting. Experience working with the public Experience in a cashier setting Excellent public relations and communication skills Ability to speak Inuktitut and French is an asset Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered. Due to the nature of this position, successful candidates must successfully pass a criminal record check and TB test.
