JOB PROFILE

JOB TITLE: Trainee Sports Coach

(Part-Time – 10 hours per week)

RANGE: Trainee Coach (YWNMW: Hourly rate: £6.31)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Youth Sports Co-ordinator

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Children & Young People

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB: Sports Coaching

To deliver sports coaching sessions for children and young people in


Kensington & Chelsea as directed by the Youth Sports Development
Team.

To supervise and assist children and young people attending Youth


Sports Development Team programmes and events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with Young People

Promote and encourage young people to develop their technical


and performance skills, creativity and confidence.

Deliver a weekly programme of football and multi sports coaching


sessions for children and young people.

To assist and support young people attending Youth Sports


Development Team programmes and events.

Development implementation

To implement the Borough’s equal opportunities policies and practice within


the project and to challenge discrimination and prejudice in all its forms.

To ensure the provision of a safe and healthy environment


ensuring that Council policies relating to the health, safety and
welfare of children, young people and staff are complied with at all
times.

Developing a range of services

To promote the work of the Youth Sports Development Team


within YSDS and the local community.

To work co-operatively with other YSDS staff delivering services
to young people, for example: School Sports Partnership, Youth
Centres and sports clubs.

Administration and Finance

To ensure that proper precautions are taken regarding Health and


Safety, including checking the facilities and equipment of each session
and event. To complete relevant forms for accidents/incidents when
necessary.

To ensure that registers of attendance are accurate and up to date (if


required).

To ensure consent forms are completed for all young people attending
Youth Sports Development Team sessions and activities (as directed
by the Youth Sports Development Team).

Work alongside the Youth Sports Development Team in preparation of


regular annual events such as the Primary School Festival of Sport,
and London Mini Marathon trials etc.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS

ENTRY LEVEL MATHS AND ENGLISH

(BASIC SKILLS ASSESSMENT MAY BE REQUIRED AT INTERVIEW STAGE)

Experience

Working with children and young people in a sports setting


(desirable).

Working with young people who demonstrate challenging


behaviour (desirable).

Interpersonal

Ability to work with a wide range of people including children,


young people, teachers and council staff.

Ability to communicate effectively with staff members, teachers,


children and young people.

Have a positive attitude to working with children and young


people.

Sensitive to the needs of diverse community groups.

PARTICULAR CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Trainee Sports Coach - Youth Sports Development Team

SALARY AND GRADE


The salary for this post is in accordance with the scales agreed by
the Joint Negotiating Committee for trainee Youth & Community
Workers with effect from 1st April 2005, and is graded at YWNMW
(equivalent to £6.08).

CONTACT TIME
It is expected that approximately 70% of the working week will
involve face-to-face work with young people.

ANNUAL LEAVE
Please note that casual claims based staff are not entitled to
annual leave.

MEDICAL
The post holder will be required to complete a medical form and
may be required to undergo a medical.

CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS
Because of the nature of the work, this post is exempt from the
provisions of Section 4(ii) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act
1974 by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
(Exemptions) Order 1975. Applicants are therefore not entitled to
withhold information about convictions which for other purposes
are “spent” under the provisions of the Act and, in the event of
employment, failure to disclose such convictions could result in
dismissal or disciplinary action by the Royal Borough. Any
information given will be completely confidential and will be
considered only in relation to any application for positions to which
the Order applies.

LOCATION
This appointment is to the staff of the Royal Borough of
Kensington and Chelsea Community Learning Division.
