Final Year Project description

Solar pump installations Detailed systematic approach.

This final year project addresses the detailed study of solar pumps, and the development of a systematic approach to install, work and maintain one. The results of this research and the model developed will be fashioned to address both home usage installations and the installation in rural communities of developing countries, where the investment of such small resources will result in great benefit. The study will be carried out investigating the requirements for said system to work efficiently under different conditions such as: different amounts of water flowing through the pipes, distances and heights required to travel by the water, duration of the solar day etc. The derived knowledge should then be used to set up aid programs addressed to under developed rural communities, and in order to do so, the very central aspect of not proposing a temporary fix will be addressed. To enable the community receiving the technology to sustain the installation in time a short seminar to hold on site will also be formulated. The lectures will aim at teaching a public of scarce technical knowledge about the skills required for running the system correctly and maintaining it. At a later stage all the results of this project will be uploaded on the internet on a website where, also through the help of patronages, a found raising campaign could be started in order to get solar pumps installed to selected sites*; the projects carried out by teams of volunteers.
