HOMEWORK 2 METU MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT ME 208 DYNAMICS FALL 2011 HOMEWORK 2 Prepared By: Hakan MENCEK C 206 210 7232 Assignment Date: 25.10.2011 Due Date: 01.11.2011 (Submit to C-206 until 16:00) Problem 1 (30pt.): Consider the system shown in Figure 1. At the given instant, block A with 2 kg mass is moving downward with a speed v = 4 m/s. Block B has a mass of 3 kg and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block B and the ground is . Neglecting the mass of the pulleys and the cords, calculate the velocity of block A after 2 seconds from the start. Problem 2 (40pt): The ball has a mass of 1 kg and is confined to move along the smooth vertical slot due to the rotation of the smooth arm OA (Figure 2). Determine the force applied by the rod to the ball and the normal force of the slot on the ball when , rad/s and rad/s2.

Problem 3 (30pt): At the instant shown in Figure 3, car A is travelling with a velocity of 25 m/s and has an acceleration of 2 m/s2 along the highway. At the same instant, B is travelling on the trumpet interchange curve with a speed of 16 m/s, which is decreasing at 2 m/s2. Determine the relative velocity and relative acceleration of B with respect to A at this instant.
