Are you interested in helping vulnerable adults as a volunteer or sessional worker? Hafal is Wales principal charity for people with serious mental illness and their carers. Covering all areas of Wales, Hafal is an organisation managed by the people we support: individuals whose lives have been affected by serious mental illness. Hafal delivers an Appropriate Adult Scheme to vulnerable adults across the South Wales Police authority area (Cardiff Bay, Pontypridd, Ton Pentre, Merthyr, Bridgend, Neath, Swansea, Aberdare and Port Talbot). The role of the Appropriate Adult is to support and advise a vulnerable adult in police custody and to facilitate communication between them and the police. The Appropriate Adult is independent from the police or legal representatives and does not give legal advice. Hafal is inviting applications from individuals across South Wales who have an interest in supporting vulnerable adults through the police custody process. We use a team of both volunteers and staff (who receive a modest payment) to deliver this service and we are seeking to recruit candidates in both categories. This service is delivered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year through flexible cover arrangements. We wish to recruit reliable, trustworthy individuals to join our team of Appropriate Adults to give their availabilities for shift cover. No previous experience is required as full accredited training will be given.
