Bank Clerical Common Entrance Examination (CWE): The Banking Industry is recruiting in a big way. In the next five years, banks will have to recruit almost 7.5 lakh people. There is more good news for lakhs of aspirants seeking a career in banking sector the time taken by a bank to complete the recruitment process, which is now 6-8 months , will come down to 2-3 months with the introduction of the first of its kind "Common Written Examination (CWE)" in 2011. The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will conduct the CWE. This examination is the pre-requisite for selection for the posts of clerks in 19 Public Sector Banks. CWE would be conducted twice a year to cater the need of the industry and also to the needs of job aspirants. This will prove to be a boon for Bank aspirants. This means that aspirants are clear about when they should apply, and can plan their preparation in an organised and effective manner.
OR A pass with 50% marks in HSC examination of 10+2 (10+2+3 pattern) /11th Std. of (11+1+3) pattern or Intermediate/PreUniversity or any equivalent examination/Diploma in Banking recognized by Central/State Government or U.T. administration. For SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EXSM candidates a pass in HSC examination of 10+2 (10+2+3 pattern) /11th Std. of (11+1+3) pattern or Intermediate/Pre-University or any equivalent examination/ Diploma in Banking recognized by Central/State Government or U.T. Administration OR A degree in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.

The above tests except the Test of English Language will be printed bilingually, i.e. English and Hindi. Negative Marking: There will be penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Test. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at correct score.
Score-card:
Candidates who are successful in the CWE will be issued score-cards. Score Cards issued by IBPS will be valid for one year from the date of issue of the Score Card. Candidates can appear in subsequent examination(s) to enhance their scores if they so desire. The successful candidates can apply to any of the participating banks as and when the banks announce the vacancies. Each bank will have its own eligibility criteria in terms of age, qualification, minimum score required in the CWE and so on. These banks will then carry out their own selection process like Group Discussion and / or Interview for the final selection.
