THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

DEFINITION
The Respiratory System is the system that makes the human body able to breathe. The Respiratory System is one of the most important systems. Obviously, without it, we would die.

FUNCTION
Here are some of the steps for the Respiratory System. First, we breathe in through our nose or mouth. The gas we breathe in is called oxygen. Next, the oxygen travels down our pharynx. The pharynx is our throat. Then, the oxygen travels into our lungs. Our lungs are basically balloon-shaped organs inside of our body. Once the oxygen travels into the lungs, it goes through the bronchi. Bronchi are very tiny tree-shaped organs inside your lungs. That is where the oxygen goes into your blood, and through to the rest of the body, to keep it going. After that, the oxygen is turned into carbon-dioxide, a gas that is bad for the body. So, it goes back into the lungs, back up the throat, and out your nose out mouth. All of this can happen in just a few seconds!

PARTS
In the lower Respiratory System, there are about 8 main parts. The pharynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs, diaphragm, larynx, and the vocal cords. The pharynx is the throat. the passage where the oxygen travels down. The trachea. Some people call it the windpipe. This organ is one of the organs that helps you speak. The bronchi are tiny tree-shaped organs inside your lungs. They help put the oxygen into your blood. The lungs are one of the most important organs. This is where you air is stored, when you hold your breath, etc. The diaphragm is the muscle below your lungs that helps them expand when you breath in. If you breath in heavily, you can see it moving up and down. The Larynx is the tube where the air comes up for you to speak. Sound is just a vibration. And, nally, the vocal chords. This is what actually makes the sound. When air comes up, through the larynx, the air passes over the vocal chords, and it makes a vibration through the air. This makes the sound.
