DAVID BERGEN SERVED AS THE SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT/GLOBAL CIO AT DUTY FREE SHOPPERS

After graduating from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, NV, David Bergen started working as a System Engineer and Project Manager with Electronic Data Systems. He working at the firm, he completed a software engineering training program and helped in the development of worldwide supply and logistic systems for American President Lines.

He served Electronic Data Systems for three years and later joined The Gap, Inc., San Francisco as a Programmer Analyst, System Analyst and then Project Manager. While serving The Gap, Inc. he envisioned and implemented high transaction IBM POS systems worldwide and introduced retail solutions including sale audit, price management and inventory management systems.

In 1984, he left the company to join Esprit De Corp, Inc., San Francisco as the Director, Application Development and assisted in creating wholesale manufacturing and retail management solutions that encompassed business process and components.

After working with Esprit De Corp. Inc. for 4 years, David Bergen returned to The Gap, Inc. as its Vice President, Global Application Development and led a team to develop applications across the value chain, including purchase order, merchandising, supply chain, logistics and operations. From 1998 to 2000, David Bergen worked with Duty Free Shoppers as the Senior Vice President/Global CIO.

He led over 250 employees and managed a $100M IT budget in 9 countries. Furthermore, he led a business simplification effort and also undertook the responsibility of launching and establishing the Sephora USA and Sephora.com e-commerce and business models.

While serving Duty Free Shoppers, David streamlined the corporate business model, supply chain, merchandising and logistics and also updated the IT organization by re-developing internal leadership and IT processes. In addition to this, David Bergen has also worked as the Senior Vice President/Global CIO of a leading clothing retailer, Levi Strauss in San Francisco, CA.

At the firm, he led the IT and business functions across 25 sites throughout the world, under the budget of over $200M. Presently, he is working as the Managing Director at Alvarez and Marsal, Business and IT Management Consulting, where, he leads the firms West Coast CIO and IT Transformation Practice.
