Year 2 Jazz Repertoire

The second year tunes are in the main more complex harmonically than those you studied at level 1 and/or tend to get played at faster tempi. For instance, not all the II Vs resolve round the cycle. There is a greater element of choice in the rhythm changes and blues sections, and all bebop equivalents to 1st year tunes must be known, where appropriate. The tunes of your choice should be selected in consultation with P.C. The tunes are selected to give you experience in a variety of styles and feels, e.g. swing, straight, time , bossa nova and ballad. At the completion of level 2 you should have a firm grasp of jazz vocabulary and will be set to explore more modern or specialised areas in year 3. Blues Straight, No Chaser and Billies Bounce Blues for Alice and Chi Chi (or another bird blues) Rhythm Changes A more difficult rhythm changes tune e.g. Wee Moose the Mooche Airmail Special Oleo Serpents Tooth Rhythm-a-ning (these are not in the repertoire booklet.
