Framing For Large Flat Screens

On Articulating Or Flat Mounts

It is important for the proper framing to be in place so that

the flat screen mounts to the wall in the desired location.
Overview The framing is also critical to the type of mount used. This
process will guide you through framing for large flat
screens on articulating or flat mounts.

Required Equipment 1. Knowledge of Framing

Tools Required 1. Framing Tools if framing needs to be changed

Estimated Time
0 to 30 minutes depending on framing

Instructions:
1. First, determine whether framing is sufficient or if the framing needs to be
changed.
2. Sufficient framing: From where you determine the estimated center of
the flat screen, assure there is NOT a stud dead center. You should
have 2 studs within a 24”distance off of the estimated center. These
studs will normally be on 16”centers. Remember, the mount will only
span 24” to 30” depending on the mount.
3. If the framing does not match this guideline, then proceed to step 4.
4. The easiest way to assure there will be no problems is to just add more studs. If
there is a stud on your estimated center, or within a few inches, then cut 2 studs
the appropriate length and add them to each side of the center stud on the wall
using nails or 3” wood screws. Place the studs at least 1’ away from the center
stud.
5. If power for the flat screen is already in place and needs to be moved or
removed (It will only need to be removed if you are installing a
Panamax Kit) then discuss this option with the superintendent of the jobsite.
6. If the framing is not easily adjustable, then discuss this with the superintendent
of the jobsite and request that it be reframed within the guidelines of step 2.
7. Once the framing is correct, attach your low voltage box at the specified height
on the inside of one of the studs that is close to center. The supplied power or
panamax power should be at the specified height and attached on the inside of
the opposite stud that is close to center.
8. If this process is not carried out on the framing for the flat screen,
then the flat screen WILL NOT be at the desired center point at
installation.
