Energy prices and conservation rise:

The coast of energy is high and continues to rise. People across the country are feeling the effects of the rising costs. As a result, many people are trying to conserve energy at home. They are turning off lights and electrical appliances when they are not using them. "Americans spend more than $115 billion each year on fuel and electricity for their homes. On the overage, heating and cooling account for about 45% of the energy a home uses. Water heating consumes about 14%, and appliances and other sources about 41%."(Marianne Watkins, economist.) People are also trying to use less heat in the winter and use their air conditioners less frecuently in the summer."Set your thermostats at 75 degrees in the summer and 68 degrees in the winter. This way you will be comfortable and save money and energy."(Gerald Christopher, director of the Energy Conservation Center.) In addition, some Americans are trying to conserve energy on the road. They are buying smaller, more fuel-efficient cars. Many also use public transportation or car pool to save gas. High prices will continue to force people to look for ways to cut back.
