Project Title:
Structural Analysis and Design of a Composite Steel/RC Multi-Storey Building

The main objective is to develop and enhance the students skills in conducting structural

planning, modeling, analysis and design of steel and reinforced concrete structures.
General Approach: ....................................................................................................................
1- Conduct a literature review to select a suitable structural system for the selected building

height and layout.

2- Produce structural layout drawings for the distribution of the main components of the
preliminary system.
3- Identify and calculate the design loads on the structural elements comprising the system.
4- Utilize suitable structural analysis software to analyze the structural system and identify the
straining actions developed in all elements under the potential cases of loading.
5- Furnish complete structural design of structural elements and connections.
6- Produce structural drawings for the designed members and connections.
Design/Analysis Tools and Methods: .......................................................................................

Selected structural analysis software will be used to model and analyze the selected structural
system (such as ETABS, SAP2000 or PROKON).

Students will apply the load calculations and design provisions provided by latest versions of
international standards and codes.

Expected Project Deliverables: .................................................................................................

A detailed documentation/report of all the tasks involved in the planning, load calculations, modeling,
analysis and design of the selected structural system (GPI and GPII).
