Te six sheets of ice were kept busy both days with 13 mens teams and two ladies teams, as well as several youth teams engaging one an- other in spirited four-on- four pond hockey. A can- teen and beer gardens for the adults were also avail- able and the entire lake area was buzzing with ac- tivity throughout the two- day event. Te f rst year for many young hockey players, Skate the Lake impressed Grade 8 student Kath- erine Heapy, who came from Oak River to play on a team with her friends. Its a fun time, she said. Teammate Levi Grego- rash of Minnedosa has participated for the last three years. Its a fun way to spend the long week- end with your friends, he agreed. On Sunday, awards were given out to tourna- ment winners. First place in the Atom Division was Te Canucks. Team mem- bers were: Bradley Letain, Kayden Sutherland, Zoey Heino, and Aleah Morrice. Te Jets (Nathan Dornn, Ben Pearson, Braeden Good, Brayden Hatch, and Nolan Bailey) won the Peewee Division, and Bilco (Tanner Bilcowski, Colby Ryznar, Tyson Nich- ols, Nathan Stephenson, Mallory Workman, and Clay Bergeson) won the Bantam Division. Winner of the Mens Division was Burgess Quality Dudes (Glen Burgess, Brad Lewis, Tyler Jacobson, Ryan McLean, and Ste- fan Brock), and Te Herd (Jami Boyd, Amy Doerk- sen, Deena Caplette, and Alana Warnick) won the Ladies Division. Beginning in 2007 as a way to raise funds for the Minnedosa Child Care Co- operative, Skate the Lake has, to date, succeeded in raising $23,500 towards the Child Care Co-op and the Minnedosa Regional Events Centre (MREC). Although a fnal tally was not available at press time, the proceeds of this years event will also go towards MREC.
