Size 2 The surface area of Scotland is 78,387km . About 2% of this is covered by water.

Region Scotland is the most northerly point of Great Britain, directly north of England. Great Britain is not a continent in itself, but belongs to Europe. The capital city of Scotland is Edinburgh, the infamous Loch Ness monsters lake, Loch Ness is also in Scotland.

Inhabitants The inhabitants are mostly Scots, with 7% of inhabitants from other parts of Great Britain, and 4% from the rest of the world.

Culture and Religions Scottish culture is very famous, due largely to its uniqueness. Lots of inventions credited to England are actually of scottish origin, such as the television. The main religion is christianity, both protestant and catholic. Scotland is also very famous for their stand-up comedy festivals.

Languages Although english is by far the most commonly spoken language, scottish gaelic is also spoken in some areas of scotland. Welsh and irish are both of gaelic origin.

Economy and Currency The official currency in scotland ist the pound sterling, the same used through-out the UK, however some banks in scotland still issue scottish bank notes. This is a fact very popular with lots of scottish and english comedians. 1 GBP = 1.42 CHF
