WORLD HEALTH DAY (APRIL 7 2011)

FREE SMOKE AIR

This event was held on April 7 2011, and conducted in the area around the main street of the city of Kendari. Campaign this year we do with the way straight down to the streets and distributed pamphlets and candies at every passing vehicle. We gave them candies instead of cigarettes, as an initial step change for the better health of urban communities at Kendari. We are aware that active smokers can not stop on their own directly, but slowly so that they can accept. We also put up banners in the surrounding streets to health-conscious

society around them. This year campaign theme: Healthy Now for Better Indonesian Future, we hope can raising awareness of the Day and triggering the active smokers to quit smoking, and know the dangers of smoking for them and others around them (passive smokers).

World No Tobacco Day (31 May 2011)

Smoking kills 6 million people every year around the world, and more than half a million non-smokers get affected from second hand smoke. Therefore, on this day members of the AMSA held a big event, considering the number of underage children who have died because of smoking. In this event we invited the Governor of South East of Sulawesi, the Chairman of the Health Department of Southeast Sulawesi, doctors, lectures, especially senior high school students at Kendari as a target of this event. Talkshow was delivered by dr. Dannny Ludong, Sp.KJ, and hosted by Kiki Farel and Ricardo Sinaga. AMSA committee also held a poster competition, band performance, etc.
