MANUAL SKILL: Anti-Embolic Hose, Elastic Stockings (T.E.D. Hose)

Wash hands. Knock and pause before entering the residents room. Introduce self. Identify resident. Explain procedure. Gather equipment. Provide for privacy. Apply gloves, if necessary.

SKILL STEPS: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. With resident lying down, expose one leg at a time. Turn stocking inside out down to heel. Slip the foot of the stocking over the toes, foot, and heel. Grasp the stocking top. Slip it over the foot and heel. Pull it up the leg. It turns right side out as it is pulled up. Check stocking for wrinkles, and smooth as necessary. Repeat procedure on opposite leg.

ENDING STEPS: 1. 2. 3. 4. Clean and return equipment and supplies. Remove gloves, if wearing. Position resident comfortably. Place call light within reach.
