TESTING ALGORITHMS

INTRODUCTION Many test kits on the market Responsibility of gvt regulatory bodies

OBJECTIVES
Dfn testing algorithms Differentiate btwn Parallel and Serial
Advantages and disadvantages of both methods

ALGORITHMS
TESTING ALGORITHM sequence in which tests should be performed PARALLEL ALGORITHM clients are tested using 2 tests simultaneously

algorithm Contd
SERIAL ALGORITHM
One test is performed at a time and when reactive a second different rapid HIV test is done. NB The choice of test in the algorithm should have different antigen preparation.

PARALLEL TESTING
ADVANTAGES 2 tests results are better than one. Shorter clinic waiting time. One finger prick reduces potential for stigma that might result when called for 2nd test DISADVANTAGES This kind of approach is very expensive

SERIAL TESTING
ADVANTAGES Approach is less expensive DISADVANTAGES Longer time of waiting for clients who test reactive on first test. If finger prick is used, client is called back for second test
