Barry O'Farrell backing the extension of the M7 distance tolling model across Sydney: My long term plan has always been the same, because no one complains about the M7 tolls, they complain about other tolls, so if we can get a fairer system across all existing tollways that would be a good outcome. Lambert report, commissioned by Barry O'Farrell, recommends 50 cent per kilometre toll: "Analysis undertaken by NSW Treasury suggests that applying a 50 cents per kilometre charge for the untolled portion of the network (including restoring tolls on the M4), and reforming the M5 Cashback scheme, might generate up to $780 million annually Lambert Report: Recommendation 13.9 Increase reliance on road pricing as a source of revenue, using any additional revenue to reduce vehicle taxes. In the short-term, introducing consistent tolling across all currently untolled sections of the Sydney Orbital Network with tolling reflecting the distance travelled, and incorporate a congestion price that varies by location and time of day."
