Computer Aided Manufacture

Computer Aided Manufacture is making a huge contribution to design, development and production in a wide variety of industries. It is explicitly mentioned in the National Curriculum and Teachers are expected to use, and be able to teach, appropriate use. We have a range of CAM machines in the school of education, and you are expected to become competent in several of them. Tasks: Design and produce a product(s) making use of at least three CAM systems. Use should be appropriate i.e. what does the machine contribute to the production process that could not be accomplished by hand? Document design, development, and any issues arising during the course of production.

Enhancements Use CAM appropriately in the development of your own products. Consider the range of manufacturing activities to which CAM can contribute and explore its use. With background reading, consider the implications of using and teaching CAM in schools. What issues are likely to arise? Where can you predict problems? What benefits does CAM bring to the subject?
