The Office of Sustainability coordinates and builds partnerships for university-wide initiatives that advance the University of South Florida's strategic goal of creating a sustainable campus environment.

Initiatives Energy
Energy conservation is very important to the Office of Sustainability as evidenced by several key projects that have been accomplished. These projects include: Replacing inefficient electronics and light fixtures Insulating buildings heating pipes and

Water
The Office of Sustainability has implemented several measures across campus that increases water conservation: Individual water meters Coordinates with the Florida EPA to manage stormwater drain systems Installed low flow toilet fixtures.

Green Buildings
The construction of various LEED approved buildings is a large goal for the Office of Sustainability. USF achieved a Gold Level LEED certification with the construction of the Science and Technology Building.

Installing reflective roof surfaces to conserve air conditioning energy

Transportation
USF boasts one of the most ecofriendly transportation services among Universities today. The bull runner shuttles, which are mostly bio-diesel fueled buses, transport students around campus.

Recycling
USF is committed to campus wide recycling. Two of the notable efforts being made are through Blackboards digital drop-box feature and the use of waste for energy. Blackboards drop-box saves tons of paper each year, but this does not entirely eliminate solid waste. So, solid waste is burned to generate electricity and food waste is used as compost for USF grounds.
