From Our Pastor Apart Together
Peace be to the whole community, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be with all who have an undying love for our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 6:23-24 Well, the migration is in full flight. Each Sunday morning since Easter our hearts have trembled through the uncertainties of our partings. There have been more extended handshakes, more hugs, more see you in the falls, as a large contingent of our church family heads toward their other homes and the loved ones there. Its a distinct element of our life here at FHPC. For half the year, we are removed from so many who mean so much to us. Out of sight, however, is not out of mind. Though we are distanced; we are not asundered. We remain part of one another; even as we reside in other parts. And so we pray, along with the apostle Paul, for our whole community, for all who have an undying love for our Lord Jesus Christ. . . We can pray this here in consideration of those who have travelled there. And we can pray this there for those who abide here. Reaching out from Rome across the intervening miles to the church in Ephesus, the apostle continues to guide us through our season of separation, saying: Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints. And then he turns deeply personal: Pray also for me, so that when I speak, a message may be given to me to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. . . Pray that I may declare it boldly, as I must speak. This, likewise, is my request of all of you. Holding one another in prayer, wherever we may be found. . . Bound together by prayer. . . Bound together in prayer. . . This is the key to remaining a community, even though we are parted geographically. This is the key to remaining apart together. In the meantime: May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind always be at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields and, Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

March income was slightly ahead of budget, making income through the first three months of 2012 at about expected levels. Expenses for the first quarter should still be considered basically on target, despite an unexpected $2,700 sewer repair expenditure in March. Some year-to-date favorable expense variances are again more attributable to timing than savings. Overall we are OK about on Budget. Respectfully, John Skewes, Treasurer

Music Ministry
Here we are, in the last month before our summer music session begins. My, my, how time flies. Some say the days go by slow, but the years go by fast. I say every minute flies by quickly, without a moment to waste. We have a full summer series of music to fill, the VBS week of fun, with music and recr e a t i o n , snacks, lessons, stories and great fun, followed in the afternoons of the same week by a band camp that caters to the older youth who just like spending hours upon hours together, making music, playing different instruments, listening to new music and putting together some great Christian Music to bring into our worship service. The band camp is offered to kids junior level through high- school. There is a fee involved, so anyone who has an interested youth who loves music and would like to participate in the band camp, please contact me through the office, or call me at home, 480-837-1810 for more information. What a privilege to have been able to sing at the Easter Sunrise Service last month. By gathering a group of hearty musical souls, Paula Eberspacher, Greg Fisher, Phil Katz, Jake Eberspacher, Jon Trautman, Jerry Zilofer and myself, we met at the Fountain Park at o-dark-thirty, carrying instruments and coffee mugs, ready to sing in our designated place at the designated time. We carried out a fine job of harmony and sound. It was good to be asked to do it, and I hope our church has an opportunity to put some music into the service again. The whole music ministry unit, including the sound-booth personnel and the Audio/Visual team, experienced a WONDERFUL time in the beautiful home of Howard and Arlene Olsen for our end of the season gathering. The hosts were first-rate, and our organizing team of Kris Peluso, Roy Nickel and Letha Neeley under the leadership of our music ministry secretary, Helen Quigley, brought us all together for a great time, recognizing the efforts of all who put forth music into our worship service, week in and week out, and making sure the sound carries our praise to God. What a great year it has been! Thank you everyone! In closing, I'd like to remind those of you with musical ability that our summer session of music does require heart-felt presentations to continue, and if you have a solo, duet, trio, quartet or more that you are interested in sharing with our congregation, contact me through the office or at home, 480-837-1810. To those returning to your summer homes and families, be safe. We look forward to your return. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.
Deuteronomy 33:27
Acts of God Unexpected flash mob musical performances have sprung up in public places such as airports and malls. Philadelphias 600-member Opera Company scattered among Macys crowds and broke out in the Hallelujah Chorus. A university choir did the same at a Fargo, North Dakota, food court. Groups have also performed impromptu performances of Silent Night, Amazing Grace and well-known secular songs. These events have been called random acts of culture, but they might better be called purposeful acts of God. Through music, we can praise God anywhere. Whenever Christs disciples move beyond church buildings and Christian gatherings to share the gospel, God is surely at work.

Mission Ministry
CALLING ALL CHRISTIANS! Membership is open!
The Mission Outreach Group is working together to restore faith, hope and love to all places in need. So, no matter who you are, no matter where you've been and no matter what you've done - we want you to know that you are welcome to join us on this adventure of a lifetime! We are growing together as we get involved in all sorts of amazing and surprising Mission Outreach projects. Being part of this group is a great way to meet new friends and find a fun creative way to be the hands and feet of JESUS CHRIST here at the FHPC....come visit us at our next meeting May 8th at 3pm in the conference room of the office and see if you would like to join us to share your gifts, strengths, skills and passion! We continue to work with the Changing Lives Center in Phoenix (which is the female counterpart to the Phoenix Rescue Mission) which helps to support and teach day-to-day skills for women, mothers and their children. They are in a Christian-based environment where they may live until they are ready to be out on their own. Late last fall, we helped out with providing music to an otherwise quiet existence by donating new CD players and assorted CD's that were shared between everyone. Through conversations our committee has had with Mark Tullis since then, we discovered even more music would be appreciated. So, a couple of weeks before Easter--on the date of the CLC Open House, in fact--we took to them a little surprise to hopefully brighten their world once again! There are currently 11 women in the facility, as well as several children and a couple on the way, so we made up 12 Easter Baskets colorfully appointed with two CD's in each, as well as a bit of seasonal candy! This time, we searched for more religious-natured CD's, as well as some more modern artists (like Michael Buble and Adele). We also made up a basket entirely of lullabies and young children's music. It was a wonderful success! Next fall, we will likely set up another tour in case anyone else is interested in going down with us to see the impact this center has on all these lives, and to see how else we may be called on to help them! Please join us! It is an amazing place! -Susan Owens
JUST COFFEE MISSION PROJECT COMES TO A CLOSE Thank You! The Mission Committee will conclude the sale of JUST COFFEE on Sunday, April 15th. Your purchases of JUST COFFEE this past season, has contributed to improving the lives of the coffee growers living in the border town of Salvador Urbina, Chiapas, Mexico. In addition, the Mission Committee was able to provide the modest proceeds of $73.00 to support C.A.R.E. and HELP the Troops. We look forward to providing other initiatives to support the mission work of Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.
The library & media staff at Changing Lives Center, would like to thank the Fountain Hills congregation for their generous donation of the Disney VHS collection, VHS, CD player , CD's and adult & children's books. The Changing Lives Center has accepted several new mothers & children, so all the donated items will be shared. -Susan Titus

EASTER BOXES HAVE ARRIVED FOR THE TROOPS The 8 Easter boxes that were shipped to Afghanistan in late March have arrived to at least one outpost. Below please find a copy of the post card received from Kabul, Afghanistan from one of the eight recipients. Just knowing that at least one box arrived in time for Easter is such a great feeling. This is what makes all the work worth it, being told thank you for your support. Current needed items: dark t-shirts, sizes L & XL; chapsticks; and sunscreens. And lastly and most important, please remember to keep all of our Troops in your thoughts and prayers. Donna Sims Deacon

A Poem For our Lovely Gathering It must have been written for just this occasion..
I sing of brooks, of blossoms, birds, and bowers: Of April, May, of June, and July flowers. I sing of Maypoles, Hock-carts, wassails, wakes, Of bridegrooms, brides, and of their bridal cakes.
Robert Herrick (15911674) ************ It was early in morning and our Fellowship Center was buzzing all the faithful workers under the direction of Elsie Hoffharber were creating their very own FHPC wonderment. People would begin to gather around 10:00 a.m. And gather they did. Hooked on Books members and other volunteers made the tables look welcoming and were fashioned in a spring motif that set one to day dreaming. But there would be no time for Day Dreaming as the women streamed in and took their places at these beautifully arranged tables for a brunch of delight. The mellifluous musical sounds of Letha Neely and Loren Marshall were Hesperides (1648)

soothing and uplifting any spirit that may have been a little low not for long at this gathering, no sir! By the way a little trivia here about Letha and Loren- all the Marshall siblings have names that begin with the letter L. I got this little known fact from a good source. As the gathering picked up steam and rolled out the food and refreshments A Visitor from 19th Century Arizona arrived and delighted each and every person as our own Barbara Wyman stayed in character and theme for the event right into the book review! Early American music, a 19th Century Visitor, a room transformed and transported. Ilene, Elsie, each and every women who volunteered, participated, offered talents, time and truffles deserves a huge round of applause. Using your love and gifts to gather in His name! Hallelujah.
We are feeding His Sheep in many ways. Take a moment to see what the scripture tells us and then read what your sisters are doing. Scripture: John 21:16-17 Feed my sheep: In verse 16, Jesus tells Peter to feed His sheep. In Greek, the word "feed' is different from that used in verse 15. In this verse the word "feed' means "to shepherd," "to tend," "to rule. " In other words, besides feeding with the Word and acts of provision, it also includes guiding, warning, protecting, disciplining, restoring, etc. The word "sheep" refer to more mature Christians. When we love Jesus we express our love to Him by pastoring Christians by warning them against false doctrines, protecting them from wrong associations, disciplining them, training them, restoring the backslidden etc. Every Christian parent is a pastor to his own little flock. Whether a Christian is a lamb or a sheep, he always needs to be fed with God's Word through Sunday school teachers, bible -teachers, missions and preachers. Conclusion: Are we feeding Jesus' lambs and sheep? Or are we always expecting to be fed by others? The motivation for feeding Jesus' sheep must be love for Him. Any other reason will not be acceptable to Him. Furthermore, if it is merely from love of men that we feed them, we will soon be discouraged from doing so - because men inevitably disappoint us. Therefore, we must realize that our feeding of men is primarily an expression of our love to Jesus, who first loved us. These acts of feeding men are part of our worship to Him. When we consider these acts of feeding as unto Jesus, and our rewards as from Him, then we can serve sacrificially and Joyfully. Peter remembered Jesus' exhortation and later wrote "Feed the flock of God' (I PE 5:2). The PW CT, the Mission Committee and Mary Alice Bivens, spear heading and organizing these efforts on behalf of FHPC, have contributed $ 500.00 to The Church of the Ascension for the Weekender Bag Program. Members of PW CT have signed up for hands on work to pack bags on May 24 and August 23. They continue to pray for Dignity House and the rescue of young women leaving the life of prostitution. Sister my sisters!! These are good things you do. Thanks Mary Alice as always right on the Front Line!
Devereaux was so grateful and wants to thank you all Ilene Berg extends a thank you for all who reached out and made this happen! Forty nine children will know the love and hope of Christ because someone cares enough to touch them . If you have gifts to share and love to give in any of these ministries...call the church office and get ready to be blessed! 837-1763.

That was an exciting month we just lived through. All of the fun and inspiring things we did in April are going to be hard to follow, but we will try. It was an awesome Easter Season, we had some unique and unusual services and I enjoyed them all. I hope you were able to join in on some of the fun. Spring is here and we are jumping in with both feet.
As May comes it means we are closer to another school season ending. We will try and keep the youth occupied with various activities this year as we have in the past. We hope to have things for all people in the church, so keep an eye out for news in the bulletins, newsletters or presby-news. For those of you who a heading home for the summer, May God see you safely there and back again next fall. We will miss all of you who will not be with us this summer. God Bless you all. Library Footnotes
The 2012-2013 Reading List from Presbyterian Women of Grand Canyon Presbytery has been released and is posted on the bulletin board in our Church Library. We already have some of the books on our shelves ready for checkout and they include these titles: Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. A dangerous, homeless drifter who grew up picking cotton in virtual slavery, an upscale art dealer, and a gutsy woman with a stubborn dream come together to make a story so incredible no novelist would dare dream it. Gritty with pain and betrayal, this true story also shines with an unexpected, life changing love. Code Talker, Chester Nez by Judy Avila. The first and only memoir by one of the original Navajo code talkers of World War II includes the actual Navajo code. In this memoir, the 90 year old Nez chronicles both his war years and his life growing up on the Navajo reservation - the hard life that gave him the physical and mental strength to become a Marine. His story puts a living face on the legendary men who developed what is still the only unbroken code in modern warfare. In-carnation
The official flower of Mothers Day is the carnation, the favorite flower of the mom of holidays founder, Anna Jarvis. Over time, the custom arose of wearing the white carnation on Mothers Day if your mother has died and a red one if shes living. In fact, many carnation colors have special meanings. Pink carries the richest Christian symbolism. According to legend, carnations first appeared on earth as Mary wept while watching Jesus carry his cross. Where her tears fell, there appeared pink carnations, symbolizing a mothers undying love. According to one theory, the English word for carnation comes from carnis, Latin for flesh. From the same root comes incarnation, Gods coming to earth in flesh. Thus, carnations remind us of our loving mothers as well as our loving Savior. May 2012 Hospitalized? Call the church! If you are sick, hospitalized or home recovering from illness, we want you to call the church and let us know! In a congregation like ours where people leave in droves for extended summer months, it is easy for the staff, elders and deacons to assume, when we dont see someone, that they are simply vacationing away. The truth is that some of you are sick and we are not aware of it. You can help us by simply letting one of the staff know of your situation. We have an excellent support system in place due to the diligent efforts of our deacons. Help us serve you by communicating your situation.
With deepest sympathy we list those members who have passed away in 2012. Don Gallentine
Well done, Thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy Of thy Lord.
Matthew 25:21
I want to thank you for the cards, phone calls, food, visits, concerns, e-mails and prayers that I received from so many of you. All of these things certainly made me feel better and helped in my recovery after surgery! You are definitely angels with kind hearts and helping hands!!!
Thanks, Mom
Dad came home to find toys all over the living room, dirty dishes stacked in the sink, clothes piled in the laundry room, beds unmade and kids still in their pajamas. The house was a wreck, like nothing hed seen before. Worried, Dad rushed upstairs to find Mom reading a book in bed. Are you okay? he asked. What happened? You know how you always ask what I do all day? Mom replied. Well, today I decided not to do it.
