STEP 2 Ask pupils to type the passage below

The cactus is an usual plant that is found in the desert. There are many types of cactuses or cacti. They come in different shapes and sizes. Some are short and round while others are tall and cylindrical. The cactuses stay alive in the desert because they have long roots. They spread out and grow close to the surface of the sandy rocky soil. These roots can quickly absorb rainwater from the ground. The cactus keeps water in its thick stems. When there is no rain, it uses this water. As a result, the stem will grow thin. The stem also has sharp thorns. That is why animals do not eat the cactus.
