The purpose of this study carried out by Espindola and Costa, in 2001, was to first describe and document the Brazilian Portuguese spoken by Brazilian immigrants in the United States which is modified in contact with English. It is shown that changes occur, not only at morphological, but also phonetic levels. In addition, its demonstrated that the portingls can be systematized as a grammar of the community. Field research was conducted in Framingham and its surrounding area, in Massachusetts.
