Introduction July 2005 Visiting the bars around Mohammed Sultan (back in the days MS rocked the nite

life industry )rose curiosity about bartending. And why nite life F&B(Clubs & bars) and regular day F&B(Baristas, sandwhich and pizza maker) dont meet or talk eye to eye thought they are both F&B? While speaking to Phunk bars Flair bartenders who until now are very good friends of mine ,Rahmat , Khai & Siti Farah. we decided to take up Certificate in bar operation in Shatec to them it was a mighty leap or career advancement whereas for me, it was just something out of curiosity on venturing more into the trade. What better way to learn other then in school. Anyone can walk into to the bar and fix a rum and cola but not everyone can tell you about a Cuba Libre. Most with knowledge wont want to start from scratch. they miss out the core value that rocks evey foundation for F&B experiance, exposure, and interaction. The art of accomodation interaction the trill of the results on the efforts of your creation. What happened in class. Being the only person who took up the course due to curiosity i took everything for granted.. i just listen and laughed the magic of wine didnt amaze me. The wonders of scottish magic was a lie Beer was a cheap high .what are these guys talking about i didnt understand, well that was until i met my Course leader Lam Che Mun . He was well groomed humble and knowledgeable.they way he projected himself u knew he was a man of experiance what amazed me was how he was able to keep the topics relevant to everyones trade mind u there were 22 of us all of them were the best from their hotels in singapore cafes, lobby bars food production and ofcourse one pizza maker who wanted to learn. 4th day of class i still didnt understand a thing they were talking about like all courses i just thought that this was going to be a easy walk thourgh until the classroom door opened and Lam Che Mun stromed in he was carrying a small pile of paper he say olrite everyone today im going to give a crossword puzzle just to see how far u have come in the past 4 days. . Most were excited i on the other hand was taken by surprise. oh my goodness i didnt understand anything how am i going to survive i just sat through it i didnt have a choice now did i.,as i sat there staring at my puzzle i was thinking what a fool i was for taking everything for granted i couldnt answer any of the question the results came i flunked terribly.i was so dissappointed with myself the rest were not to bothered with the results not me that nite i skipped the bar and i studied the nite away. 8th day of class.what do expect when u put a bunch of bartenders together rock and roll we shifted all over the builds due to disturbance complaints smiles.. the class came to aburt silence when a huge fella walked in he didnt seem to approachable he just walk in wrote his name on the board Christoper Lee.. then he turned ard n looked at us then he started talking today Lam Che Mun wont be able to attended ur lesson so im stepping in my topic is about wine.. and so on the class was silent n concentrating something thats not explainable how come u put grapes and end up with so many other chracters. And so on after that i was glad that atleast i could name a few red and white grapes. U cant smoke me on the grapes anymore hurayyyy. Few days into the end of the course we got a 2nd surprise this time it was a written test and i guess hard work pays off i got 2nd in class. Thanks to this Crossword puzzle incident i always pay attention in whatever class or seminar that i attend. End of class Lam Che Mun hands over everyone a name card and asks us to join Association of Bartender and Sommeliers Singapore(ABSS). My results were excellent.

Introduction
How it begins At a special ordinary meeting held in Luxembourg earlier 1965, Mr. Leo Van Vugt, President of the Netherlands Bartenders Club expressed that the I.B.A. should do something for young barmen. From his suggestion the idea of a Training Centre was realised. Mr. Jean Schambourg, President of the Luxembourg Bartenders Association was tasked to look into the possibilities of setting up the training centre in Luxembourg, which was a central location accessible by most European countries The centre was officially established during the 14th IBA Meeting held on 26th November, 1965 at the Hotel Billia, St.Vincent, Val dAosta, Italy. The International Bartenders Association Training Centre was established under the patronage of the I.B.A. and a Supervisory Council was established consisting of: Director: President: Vice-President: Committee: Mr. Schambourg Mr. Angelo Zola Mr. Charles Tuck Mr. Leo van Vugt Mr. Gustave Tops

Mendes till 1987, where once again Italy re-hosted the course from 1988 under the course leadership of Mr Luigi Parenti. From 1992 to 1995 the John Whyte Course was held in Norway under Mr Steiner Gill From 1993 onwards, two John Whyte Courses were set up for Europe and Far East. From 2001 to 2002 the European course was held in Italy under the direction of Mr Luigi Parenti. From 2003 to 2006 the European course was held in Czech Republic under the course leadership of Mr Milan Kolar. The Far East course was held in Singapore since 1993 under the course leadership of Messrs Derrick Lee and David Chan. The First South America Course was held in Brazil in August 2004 under the direction of Mr Nilson Candido. The Elite Bartenders Course JWC In 2001 the course was renamed to 'The Elite Bartenders Course -JWC'. Currently there are three courses held world wide each year for bartenders. In the first quarter of the year the course is held in Europe and in the second quarter the course is held in the Far East and South America. It is the vision of the IBA to establish the North America Course in the near future.
