May 17, 2012 Mayor Jim Watson City of Ottawa 110 Laurier Ave. W.

Ottawa, ON K1P 1J1 Mayor Watson: The Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association has been following with interest the debate about the number and location of LRT stations. On a number of occasions we have been asked if the Association has a formal position on the matter. Given the interest we polled our members and a significant majority of the respondents supported the addition of a fourth station at Confederation Square, which would allow the Downtown East Station to remain close to Bank Street and the recently relocated station to service the area well east of the canal. We recognize the ridership benefits of the new location for the Rideau Station at Nicholas Street. A Confederation Square station would not only provide more convenient access for persons who live and work in the growing Elgin Street region, it would also provide visitors and commuters alike with a remarkable and distinctive access-point to the LRT system from the ceremonial heart of Ottawa. We understand your fiscal concerns about project creep, but in our view this city-building initiative needs a review of the benefits of adding a fourth station in the core. Sincerely,
