Hidden Treasure

What you need: a partner, hidden treasure game board, 8 red and 8 blue poker chips, something to block the view of the game board, treasure map

F Folder III --15 What you do: Part A: General Rules 1) Object of the game is for player B to find as many treasures as possible. 2) To find a treasure you must dig for it. 3) You may only dig eight times. 4) If you step on a treasure then it is destroyed. Part B: Set-up 1) Player A hides the treasure by placing the red chips on the game board. 2) Player B takes the treasure map and the eight blue (dig) chips. Part C: Searching for treasure 1) Player B calls a coordinate. This is a step. 2) Player A responds by stating if a) a treasure has been destroyed or b) gives the number of treasures in the 8 squares that surround the coordinate. For examples, see below.

3) Player B writes this number on the treasure map. Part D: Digging for treasure 1) If player B thinks she/he knows the location of a treasure then he/she gives a blue chip to player and calls a coordinate. 2) If there is treasure in that location the blue chip is exchanged for a treasure (red) chip. 3) If there is no treasure in that location then the blue chip is lost. Part E: Ending the game Play continues until a. all the treasure has been found or destroyed b. player B runs out of digs Part F: Strategies 1) As you go through the game stop and write scenarios where you know there is a mine. Indicate how you know the mine is there. Look at the example below. 1 0 0 1 1 0 ? 2 0 I know that there is a treasure in the square with the ? because that is the only place left for the treasure shown by the 1 in the center square.

2) You may discuss strategies with your partner or teacher. 3) Discuss strategies with your partner. Write down at least one strategy that was used.
