This month news about an award for Social Action Croydon, information about our next litter picking and where to start if you want to volunteer.

National Excellence Awards for Outstanding Initiative

I am very pleased to announce that the Croydon Social Action Team were the Winners of The Conservative National Excellence Award for Outstanding Initiative. Jayne Laville and Barbara Norton joined me to pick up the award, but the prize is really for everyone who has volunteered in Croydon for the last few years, so very well done to you all.

The next litter picking event will take place on the 30th June 2012, this is a week later than normal as I am on holiday on the 23rd. We have had a request from a resident to help tidy up the Towpath playground on Towpath Way, we will also give the surrounding area a tidy up. The meeting place will be the junction of Davidson Road and Towpath Way, The 410 Bus from West Croydon and Crystal Palace stops just outside the playground. It would be a great if we could get a good turnout, please let me know if you are coming along and I will make sure that I bring along enough equipment.

Armed Forces Day Saturday 30 June

A series of armed forces themed events will take place in the week leading up to Armed Forces Day (Saturday 30 June). The events are designed to promote understanding and awareness of the issues affecting the armed forces community, and to bring together the armed forces and civilian communities. This emphasises our commitment, symbolised by our Armed Forces Community Covenant which was launched in December 2011.This covenant makes Croydon the first London borough to establish such a scheme.
