Stan Calvert Memorial Cup 2012


All day, Sunday 4th March An event not to be missed - every year, Newcastle battles it out against our Northumbria counterparts in 25 sports, with the hope of winning that all-important Stan Calvert Memorial Cup! Hop on the Metro a short distance to the Gateshead International Stadium and support Team Newcastle as they attempt to make history by winning the Cup for a fifth consecutive year! There are 7 sports taking place at the stadium throughout the day, including the showpiece event; Mens Rugby Union match (7.30pm KO). Tickets are available to buy from the Sports Centre and Student Union Reception for 5 each, and also outside the SU on selected days. RAG

Saturday 10th March, Jailbreak is back!! Following the amazing success of Jailbreak 2011, with teams reaching all over Europe, Canada and South Africa we have brought Jailbreak back for 2012! In pairs or groups of 3 you have 30 hours to travel as far away from Newcastle as possible entirely for FREE! Be it hitch-hiking, blagging your way onto a plane/train/ferry/bus anything goes... as long as its legal! The cost of taking part is 20pp and this covers your t-shirt and insurance for the adventure Minimum sponsorship is 100 per person, last year we raised a total of 10, 000 lets see if we can do that again this year!!! All money raised goes to KidsCan - lets raise a huge amount of money for this INCREDIBLE charity and have the adventure of a lifetime! Change One Thing


There are over 40 NEW suggestions on Change One Thing! This is a great way to initiate change at University and on our campus. Go to: www.nusu.co.uk/changeonething and rate the suggestions. If any receive over 40 likes in a month, it could become official Students Union policy. BE THE CHANGE!

Rise Up
Calling all future business stars, here is your chance to shine Rise Up invites students from all degree disciplines and all stages to unleash their enterprising potential - you dont have to have any business experience to become involved! SU shop and Mensbar


Purchase any Fairtrade product in the SU shop and be entered in our free prize draw to win a Fairtrade hamper of goodies worth 20. With Easter on its way, try one of our new Sweet Shop Cocktails at MENS Bar. Starting in March, purchase a Cocktail and receive a receipt which can be redeemed at the SU shop for a free chocolate egg.

Go Play
This term, more fun, free (or very cheap) sport for everyone! Volleyball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Korfball, Netball, Street Cheer, Running, Golf... and 2 dodgeball tournaments!! Jesmond Community Festival 2012 Friday 27th April Sunday 13th May A comedy evening, jazz night, journalism boot-camp and volunteer taster sessions in Jesmond as well as a night full of talent organised by the Student Union are just some of the attractions in the forthcoming eighth annual Jesmond Community Festival. Then the annual Intramural Debating Competition offers the perfect opportunity to flex your analytical skills alongside novice debaters for a cash prize. If youve never debated before at University or missed your chance, now is the perfect time to try your hand in a relaxed competition open to all Newcastle students. You will be competing in teams of 2, with 3 rounds and the top 4 teams competing in a grand final for the title. NCL+ awards

Nominations deadline: Monday 19th March 10 chances to win 300! Are you - or one of your friends - involved in a hobby, society, voluntary work, or any other extracurricular activity? The ncl+ Student Achievement Awards are a great way to gain recognition for your hard work. Nominate yourself or one of your friends for the chance to win a cash prize at the glittering awards ceremony, set to take place on Tuesday 1st May at the Great North Museum. There are 10 award categories in total, offering something for everyone - from media and the environment through to sport, the arts and community spirit. There are also three society awards too. The winner in each category will scoop 300, and each runner-up receives 100 a grand total of 4000 prize money! The deadline to enter is noon on 19th March 2012. Make sure you dont miss out! International Womens Week

This is what a feminist looks like, short talk with pictures and statements being taken. The Womens Rugby Club


The Womens Rugby Club are organising a ball to fundraise for their club and also raise awareness of womens rugby. Its set to be a great night with a 4-course meal, half bottle of wine, guest speaker, live band, DJ and more for only 35! Discover Islam Week


The Islamic Society at Newcastle University is hosting this years Discover Islam Week (DIW) between Monday 5th March and Friday 9th March 2012.
