GOLF AND GOODWILL GO HAND-IN-HAND TO HELP AT-RISK CHILDREN


Uncle Micks Bar and Grill and the community step up for kids. Jupiter, Fla. Local children living in foster care will benefit from the hard workand playof the management and staff of a Jupiter restaurant, its patrons, area businesses and about one hundred golfers. Uncle Micks Charity Golf Tournament recently raised over $10,300 to help Child and Family Connections, Inc. (CFC) with programs and services for more than 1,250 at-risk children it serves in Palm Beach County. The late spring fundraiser geared up a week before the tournament at a pre-party at Uncle Micks on Indiantown Road in Jupiter. The Golf & Racquet Country Club at Eastpointe hosted teams on a near picture-perfect Saturday morning a week later. Players then finished the day with an awards banquet and auction back at Uncle Micks. Even though there was stiff competition, the top winning team drawn at random consisted of golfers Dustin Dunn, Cody Ertle, Anthony Hammer and Joe McGuire. Longest Drive winners were Maggie Caron and Bryant Carter, while Theresa Goulet and Tyler Fox were awarded prizes for Closest to the Pin. The pre-party, hosted by WAVE 92.7 radio personality Eric Hunter, found golfer and Micks patron Harold (Herbie) Williams taking home a YES! Putter after his name was drawn as the evenings grand prize winner. CFCs Bob Barker expressed appreciation to Uncle Micks in choosing to help foster and at-risk children. The Interim CEO noted, We are delighted that Uncle Micks owner Kenny Martinson agreed to support CFC and the children we serve with his popular tournament. Its with community backing like this from Micks, the event sponsors, golfers, an amazing committee and prize donors that something this successful and positive for the children has taken place, Barker added. Tireless committee members included co-chairs Jeanne Westhoff Knight and Sheree Pinder who were backed up by Julie Baker, Rhonda Cunha, Renee Mcalister, Natalie Rinehart, Melisa Shearin, Kathi Teljer and Vicki Waite. Others helping out included Roxy Feldman, Coleen LaCosta and Brenda LaPlatte, Its always nice to keep it local, and everyone just seemed to come together to not only have an incredibly fun day on the course but also at the banquet and auction and to do it for a great cause as well, co-chair Westhoff Knight pointed out.

Highlights of the post tourney banquet auction were the donation of a 14 carat white gold sand dollar necklace from Jupiter Jewelry and a framed watercolor print by local tropical artist Klaus Schuler.
