ENTHALPY OF Phase Changes (Summary)

Phase transition are associated with the processes of melting/Freezing, vaporization and sublimation. Each respective transformation has an enthalpy change associated with it.

Clausius Clapeyron Equation :

It is used to determine the enthalpy of vaporization if vapor pressure data is available. It forms the relationship of Y = mx + b The propose of this experiment is to analyse a set of vapor pressure data graphically and then determine the delta H Vaporization for this liquid and then combine this with an experimentally determined value of delta H fusion for the solid to calculate the value of Delta H sublimation for water. These enthalpy values are dependent on temperature. We will perform this experiment in 2 parts : 1. Determining the Enthalpy of vaporization of water.

2. Determining the Enthalpy of Fusion of water.
