Todays teachers face a significant tension of whether to teach students for science competency or whether science competency is the secondary purpose of engaging them in scientific literacy*.

*Required for personal decision making, participation in civic and cultural affairs, and economic productivity.

Imagine what life is like for a child born in the poorest parts of the world. Hunger. Disease. No chance to go to school Now, imagine it was in your power to change the lives of these children What can YOU do?

Activities: Springboard for discussions on EE (GE) Sense of place (local) Sense of place (global) Work in authentic environments real students and teachers Hands-on learning - NOT a way to test/practice any theories.

Limitations: Authentic environments that facilitate transition between training and a classroom on their own. Short time available to students (observation period?). Planning is time consuming. Teachers must be willing to participate (access).
