in lodgings, the remainder of the 68 total camp population scattered and questions about what to do with new residents now that the camp is disbanded, University of Michigan School of Social Work staff is looking to begin a dialogue on the issue. Camp Take Notice, a grassroots, self-governed tent community for homeless, was located
on Wagner Road in Scio Township before the Michigan Department of Transportation and Lansing politicians decided that homeless encampments do not belong on state-owned land, which resulted in the eviction of the campers in June. William C. Birdsall, associate professor of social work at U of M, is organizing the town hall and has
sent out invitations to various figures, including Washtenaw County Sheriff Jerry Clayton, Washtenaw Housing Alliance Executive Director Julie Steiner, State Rep. Mark Ouimet, R-Scio; State Rep. Rebekah Warren, D-Ann Arbor; Ann Arbor Mayor John Hiefjte; Shelter Association of Washtenaw Executive Director Ellen Schulmeister; John Loring of homeless service agency

Legislation to amend the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System is expected to be amended and passed soon in the state Legislature. Senate Bill 1040 will freeze the amount that school districts are required to pay into the MPSERs pension fund, capping the amount that public school districts
need to fund at 24.75 percent. Any further increases in funding requirement would be passed onto public school employees, who could either remain on the current defined benefit plan or switch to a defined contribution plan. State Rep. Mark Ouimet, R-Scio Township, said Aug. 9 that the bill needs to pass to save public school systems across the state $927 million over the next two years. Fire Chief Sean Gleason spoke to the Pittsfield Township Board about the issue. He said the roof is leaking in several spots and further repairs have been deemed not worthy to attempt. The leaks in the roof are negatively affect-
ing the fire trucks parked inside, he said. All of the companies that bid for the project stated that, due the age and condition of the rubber membrane, the best way to fix the problem is to replace the roof, Gleason said.
Thermal-Tec of Cedar Springs won the bid and will clean off the roof with a power broom, seal off the vents and do the work in a quarter of the time the other bidders proposed, he
