As a school wide focus, staff and students are showing how they S.T.O.M.P. as we stay Safe, Trusting, Own behaviors, Make a difference, and show Pride. We would like to welcome a few new staff members to BLE: Lynn Reis- 1st Grade Teacher Jenna Thompson- Music Kim Tanelian- Kindergarten Instructional Aide Matt Phillips- Recess Aide Ashlyn Catania- Recess Aide What does a letter grade tell you on a report card? Does it provide insight on specific skill development? Does it provide areas of mastery and determine areas of desired growth? Standards Based Grading provides insight on specific skills in each core content area. This model outlines student capabilities on selected standards expected at a particular grade level. I am pleased to announce that Bailey Lake will pilot this form of grade reporting this year. Expect to hear more about it before report cards come home prior to the Thanksgiving recess. The Bailey Lake School Fair is October 13 from 11AM - 4PM. This is our only active fundraiser for the year. All our great volunteers are putting together a great day for games, food, prizes, and fellowship. Thanks, in advance, for the items you have donated toward the class baskets and silent auction. See you at the fair! October always ends with a fun activityHalloween! As in the past, on Wednesday, October 31, students (parents welcome) will participate in a school wide parade on
the path around the playground starting at 2:45 PM followed by classroom parties. Students should bring their costumes to school. Please remember to refrain from sending students with costumes that include looka-like weapons, fake blood, or violent themes. Costumes should not contain objects that might be difficult to move around in or may injure another student. Thanks for helping make this a great time for all! Sincerely,

As summer is officially over, fall at Bailey Lake wouldnt be a fall without the School Fair on Saturday, Oct.13th! Not only it is a wonderful fun event for our children, but also the major PTA fundraiser that will pay for their field trips, enrichment and learning activities, as well as additional supplies for the classrooms. Please help out in any way you can! We are asking for various donations: classroom basket items, silent auction items, baked goods, used books and media. We are also in need of volunteers. Please contact Kim Hardtke, our Volunteer Coordinator, hardtke@comcast.net, if you can share your time. A big thank you to the room parents and those who continuously support BLE PTA events and activities. Sharing your talents and time with children is a very rewarding experience. It creates bonds and memories to treasure for many years. And whats better than to see children smile!

Magic Moment...?
Its that time of year again to encourage your child to take part in BLE Reflections Art Competition. What is Reflections? The Reflections Program is sponsored by the PTA and is a National Art Competition that offers students from Kindergarten through fifth grade opportunities to create works of art for fun and recognition. Each year, the Reflections Program challenges students to create art to show their interpretation and understanding of a given theme. This years theme is: The Magic of a Moment... A student can participate by creating and submitting as many entries as she or he wishes, in any or all categories. The categories include: Visual Arts, Literature, Music, Photography, Dance Choreography, and Film/Video Production. Please visit the BLE web site, click PTA and then Reflections to see the guidelines. More information will be coming in the November newsletter. We encourage participants to continue to work on their submissions at home. I hope that you encourage your child to participate in this highly regarded program.
